  • A great challenge to sing, and Ann always rises to any challenge vocally. The first time I heard this, I had to hear it immediately again after- I was so moved and amazed by the power she commanded with her VOICE, not her body, which is the mark of a true performer. She needed no fall back, not with talent like this. All the female 'singers' currently on the scene should be ashamed to call themselves singers, daring to follow after greats like this without even a drop of the vocal capability.

  • "*From the LP- Was originally suppose to be on "Greatest Hits Live" (1980), but was omitted from the final cut. "

how on earth could that happen?

  • I have listened to Heart for 30 years but only found this track last night. After I had listened to it thirty times I had a curious thought. Imagine if a fifty two year old woman called Ann walked in front of Simon Cowell and did this to this song?

  • Heart LIVE never better

  • WOW.....just..........WOW!!!

  • Still brings me to tears. Nobody sings this song with this much raw emotion and power. It is phenomenal.

  • I heard this song while on a road trip in the Redwoods of California. My daughters are well trained vocally and I've a lot of experience. When the song finished, we sat in utter silence for quite some time absolutely gobsmacked and dumbfounded by what we'd heard. Vocal power of unbelievable strength and accuracy. I can't find the right superlative for it.

  • She as well had tears flowing. It was an unbelievable experience to see an artist give it her/his all and actually cry in front of the audience. HEART has been a part of my life since the 70's and will ALWAYS be! Love you Ann and Nancy!

  • When I saw HEART perform this song live it was the 3rd encore. After the song was over Ann sat at the edge of the stage and said "I've given all I have to give tonight I have no more to give, good night and I Love You All" The crowd stood in stunned silence for a few and then erupted in an ovation I've never seen at any concert I've been. And that goes for Led Zep, Pink Floyd, U2,The Stones, etc. I think you all can catch where I'm coming from. Not a dry eye in the house that magical night.LUVANN

  • I love you Ann, but this song belongs to the Righteous Brothers, just as Alone belongs to you

  • 2:42-UNBELIEVABLE!!! Let's see you hit THAT note, Madonna, Cher, GaGa, Beyonce, etc.!!!!!

    Ann Wilson-

    BEST!!!!!

    ROCK!!!!!!

    VOCALIST!!!!!

    EVER!!!!!

  • @CygnusX1Timbo RIGHT ON!!

  • In my opinion Righteous Brothers version is the best

  • In my lifetime I have seen Heart twice in concert, first in 1979 when I was a student at New Mexico State Univ and in 1984 after I was done with college and went back to Puerto Rico and for me Ann Wilson has one of the most beautiful voices in the history of rock...in an age filled with female no talented bimbo singers she could give the new generation a lesson on how to do it right and live on stage

  • my mother loved this song by the righteous brothers. her fav. she passd in 05. one day i playd the cassette of this version in her car.. she was like, who is this, girl can sing. i says this is ann wilson of the band heart.. all my mother was sayn is girl can sing! i was fortunate enuff to meet the original band backstage in the 70s il never forget the power and beauty of their show seein it from the wing of the stage. phenomenal! and unforgettable just like ma. love u ann and nancy <3

  • I love Heart and I love this song..But the original version is way better

  • @denisedgm If you're talking about the version done by the late Al Hibbler, I can ALMOST agree. But that OTHER version, done by Hatfield&Medley, makes me nauseous it's been so overplayed and overused.

  • The best singer in the world

  • enough with all the negative comments on this song. I think Ann absolutely nailed this song and then some! I dare say there is very few singers that can even come close to her perforamance / version of it. I want to say thank you Ann for not holding back and giving it your all ! By the way is this band your original members? The drummer sure sounds like Michael Derroiser ( hope spelled right ).

I am a drummer and he was one of my mentors as I tought myself how to play. Love you Ann and Nancy.

  • @littlepewpew001 right on !!

  • I always have and always will love Heart. I got to see them twice in concert and I am a big fan ! !

  • Ann Wilson has been an Inspiration in my Singing Career and a perfect example of what singing with feeling and all of your heart truly means....Luv, CharylLynn

  • @charylsinner soooooooooo true !!!!!

  • ANN WILSON IS FANTASTIC AND THE COMMENTS ARE CHILDISH. I WANNA SEE COMMENTS ON HOW OUR ECONOMY IS GOING TO ROMPER ROOM AND HOW EVERYONE IS SCARED BUT WON'T TALK ABOUT IT. LISTENING TO SINGING RELAXES ME AND ANN WILSON SINGING unchained melody IS FANTASTIC. WE LOVE YOU ANN WILSON IN KANSAS..

  • She tries too hard and adds too many embellishments. Beautiful voice, but she doesn't do the song justice. One of poorer covers I've heard.

  • @seoulmanbobbybrown SHE DOSE BETTER THAN ORIGINAL !!!!!!!

  • @babyj1996 YES SHE DOSE!!

  • Eh, why should all cover pay tribute to the original song or whatever? I prefer covers where the artist takes a song and makes it their own. This is what arts is about, there are no any rules to say what you can and cannot do with a song. No point trying to copy the original, trying to sing in the same key or whatever.

  • RR83y I think the masterpiece is Ann Wilson. Thank You.

  • @MrSHEDOSKY - I agree Ann is a masterpiece. But not with this song. She oversings it ruining it in the process.

  • My All time favorite version of this classic.

  • I saw Heart in concert in Tulsa, OK in 1982.........i was a major fan for a few years and was awestruck when i was in the fourth row......what a show. funny looking back, the opening show, John Cugar i didn't care for at the time, but have a lot more respect for now.........great band, Heart.........pure music :)

  • nah...l think heart pulled off the best of this song. To capture this song the way ann did live......there's just no words

  • The Righteous Brothers own it, but Heart did it second best! I thought I'd get this on a CD for which I had the 33 LP in vinyl, but it wasn't on the CD. I'm glad I found it here. The most beautiful song ever!

  • I totally agree with you guys....what balls it took to redo this song but WOW!

  • man who did these lil girlies think they were...here they were trying to make it into the music industry in the late 70/early 80s as rockers??? and they go and try and do this song live??? a classic that they shouldn't even touch this early in their career?? man they're lucky it turned out to be the most amazing, awesome version of this song ever

  • This is my heartbreak song from when I was a kid getting my heart broke all the time like we do...LOL....I saw this band at least 5 times LIVE awesome....

  • This is THE version of Unchained Melody. I remember being in high school when it was released and it blew me away.

  • Nobody does Unchained Melody better than Ann Wilson!!!

  • I have been listening to Heart since 1976, and never heard this one. Ann Wilson's range is just incredible; I agree she really did this song justice!! Awesome!

  • I've been a fan of Heart for a while now, but I never had a chance to listen to this one. Now I realise what I was missing...what a shame! Thank you so much for posting.

  • WOW

  • woooooooow dear i cant express ma wordsss

  • Beautiful version of a classic!

  • I have to agree with ALL! This is by far the best rendition of this song out there, and there are plenty!! Many of the artists sing is fantastic, but... there is something in her voice aside from the incredible range, something sultry, scratchey yet seductive that no one can come close to duplicating. WOW!!

  • .............DAMN

    <3

  • does anyone has this video? i have seen it on tv ( HKTVB fromHong Kong) i think in late 70s. it was wonderfull.

  • Can you believe she did this live!!!! Most singers these days couldn't even pull half this off.

  • omg best version of this song ever!

  • It's true. Every other version I've ever heard pales next to this.

  • I like this version it warms in my Heart

  • simply awesomeness!best rendition!

  • GOD ANN WILSON SO KICKS ASS ON THIS SONG SHE NAILS IT EVERY TIME BLOWS ME AWAY WHEN SHE GOES THAT HIGH IS SO AMAZING

  • @1996THEART AMEN!!

  • I totally agree with you guy's!!! This is one of the best live performances of all time of this song!!

  • NOBODY can sing like Ann. Love her always.

  • Ann Wilson totally nailed it

  • I have this version on the old vinyl album "Greatest Hits/Live",and I've been waiting years for it to get to cd.This may be the best version of this tune ever, and also maybe the best performance in a long line of great performances from Ann.Although I have all of the other tunes on the "Essential Heart " in my musical collection on cd,I'm going to have to go out and buy this disc for "Unchained Melody",and it may be the best $15 I will ever spend for music.

  • I prefer Swayze.

  • I really shouldn't, but I cringe whenever I hear any other artist attempt this song. Reason: Ann Wilson has produced the best version of all time. She nails each vocal challenge, often exceeding the power required to perform this beloved ballad! I STILL get goosebumps every time!

  • @denisejustdenise - Agreed!

  • @denisejustdenise amen!!!!!!!

  • @denisejustdenise Absolutely!

  • Holy SHIT could this bitch be anymore amazing!! I mean this was done live!Ugh I can't even almost handle it.

  • No one does this song better than Ann Wilson!!!

I actually used to listen to this on the 8-track of Heart's Greatest Hits (1980). So I was totally HEARTbroken when I bought the same album on CD and found that Unchained Melody was not there! So you know what I just now ordered :)

  • me too

  • Same thing happened to me when I bought the CD :( At least I still had the cassette tape & vinyl :)

  • @valkour22 got that right !

  • @valkour22 AMEN!!

  • If this aint one of the greatest of all time, i dunno what is..say... drummers.. doncha think he played good here (Michael Derosier)? Thanks folks!

  • This is the most amazing version of this song, EVER

  • @Delanthaenas amen! she made this song hers, it ceased belonging to the righteous brothers the moment ann sang it. songs like this and bands like heart are the reason i can't tolerate the garbage they call music today. i know what real music is.
