You have to have it in DFU Mode where the iphone is completely blank and then itunes will detect it. recovery mode is incorrect, recovery mode is when you have the connect to itunes mode. To get your phone in DFU mode;
1.first put your phone on
2.Hold power button and return button untill phone goes off.
3. once phone is blank stop holding power button, but keep holding the return button for 10seconds and then release it.

Finally made it. Shiit people, don't update if you have iphone 2g to 2.0 or 2.1. I accidentally tried and regret about it. Thanks for restore thing video. Helped a lot.

HELP: i started with mistakenly updating from 1.1.4 to directly 2.0.2. Tried QuickPwn but it could only jailbreak and activate. SIM remained unlocked, i downgraded to 1.1.4 via your tutorial. Everything went OK until it completed restore, my iphone never come out of restore (itune and cable disp) mode even after restore. I tried Ziphone on that but it didnt work. I then restored my 1.1.4 to 2.0 and repeated the same procedure but no luck....can you help.

You need to hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time, count to 1 seconds and EXACTLY at 10 seconds, release the Sleep/Wake button. Hold the Home button for another 10 seconds and you should hear the Ba Dum sound from your iTunes. It should be completely black. And now you are in DFU mode.
tutorial worked great followed the text instructions and it helped got the error 1015 note:to fix this problem i ran ibrikr told it to force boot and it gave me the green screen meaning i had to restore it again so i restored 1.1.4 by holding shift down on itunes 7.5 did the ibrikr again since the 1015 error had come up again and told it to force boot this time it gave me the red screen and took it a bit but booted right up! then did the whole ziphone deal
i've tried your method..and some how on the 7.5 itune version..and it a message keeps telling me to update back to 7.7 in order for the itune to read my iPhone.. i also changed the name of the itune library to itune library.1 as well. any suggestions?

3. It will display a message sayin your iPhone requires iTunes 7.7. There is no need to do that. Just get your iPhone into DFU mode. To do that you need to hold the HOME and the 10 secs simultaneously and then release the button only.
4. Your iPhone will then be recognised by the computer and iTunes 7.5.
5. Holding down Shift click on Restore and then select the iPhone1.1.4restore.ipsw.
I have followed this downgrade step by step but when i tried to restore in itunes, they give me a 1601 error message. Please let me know what i'm doing wrong!

I think you need to delete all the itt files in the itunes folder. Then it should work.

I have been using Tmobile in an unlocked Iphone for several months now with out any problems...
Last night while I was syncing up on Itunes music library, it said that I had to download 2.0 and like a dumb ass I DID...
Now my phone is frozen on an image of a small USB cord pointing at an Itunes logo...

If u have a error 20, then that means ur not in DFU mode. because if ur in DFU mode u would not have itunes connect icon.

You need to hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time, count to 1 seconds and EXACTLY at 10 seconds, release the Sleep/Wake button. Hold the Home button for another 10 seconds and you should hear the Ba Dum sound from your iTunes. It should be completely black. And now you are in DFU mode.

tutorial worked great followed the text instructions and it helped got the error 1015 note:to fix this problem i ran ibrikr told it to force boot and it gave me the green screen meaning i had to restore it again so i restored 1.1.4 by holding shift down on itunes 7.5 did the ibrikr again since the 1015 error had come up again and told it to force boot this time it gave me the red screen and took it a bit but booted right up! then did the whole ziphone deal

hey whats up, I uninstalled Itunes 7.7 and installed 7.5, and I changed the name of the Itunes Library file. The problem now is that when I open Itunes 7.5, it says that my iphone can't be used.
my iphone is not in recovery mode....at least I don't think it is. Right now it lets me make emergency calls, so I think that means it isn't in recovery mode

Follow this..
1. Uninstall iTunes 7.7 and restart immediately.
2. Install iTunes 7.5 and connect your iPhone.
3. It will display a message sayin your iPhone requires iTunes 7.7. There is no need to do that. Just get your iPhone into DFU mode. To do that you need to hold the HOME and the 10 secs simultaneously and then release the button only.
4. Your iPhone will then be recognised by the computer and iTunes 7.5.
5. Holding down Shift click on Restore and then select the iPhone1.1.4restore.ipsw.
