... it's the 1960s all over again.. I'm just home from school, my mum's making the tea and on comes Crossroads. Meg, Sandy, Carlos the Chef, the old girl in the village shop (Miss Tatum??), Marilyn et al. Even in those days me and my mates watched it "ironically" laughing at wobbly scenery and Amy Turtle grappling, invariably unsuccessfully, with her lines.
Tony Hatch Orchestra with a big helping hand from one of the top British guitarists of the sixties, VIC FLICK. Vic was leader of the John Barry Seven (remember the Juke Box Jury theme?), and is famous for playing the James Bond Theme.
There were at least two different versions of the 1960sCrossroads theme, the original TV version did not have much strings as this one, nor did it step up a semitone (from A Major to B-flat) as this one does. At that time they probably could not release the original as a single for copyright or some other reason, any thoughts?
@anorak64 Tony Hatch didn't want to release the TV Version as it was recorded in a TV studio at Elstree and didn't "meet" the requirements of a record release, it also - the TV version - falls short of timing, its only 1min 20 seconds. The 1965 Pye record has the filler tune in the middle added to make it 2 mins.
Thanks for the update, the TV original can in fact be found on the B-side of 'Goodbye' by Shona Lindsay - the vocal theme from Crossroads and released as a single in1988 by BMG/Ariola, when Crossroads finished on ITV. The B side also has the 'Kings Oak Crossroads Theme' by Max Early and Raf Ravenscroft as well as the Tony Hatch version - the latter lengthened by copying, cutting and pasting (if transfer done digitally) or by copying and splicing of 1/4" tape (?).
@anorak64 The version you mean is by the graham walker sound or something like that,i have it on a cd called swiging london. Its got no strings on just a groovy hammond organ and guitars and drums. Its better than this.

I read that Tony Hatch prefers this one to the proper tv version! not me. Go to the classic version by following the peach colour!

Great guitar sound - really earthy. Someone ought to recommend it to Nick Cave.
