@hamlet1341 This is known as a builder exercise for helping you play paradiddles faster. So the sticking you noted is the same sticking the instruction eventurally builds up to play.
one of my friends (a drummer) gave me a challenge. who could do the fastest paradiddles. I was drunk and thought I could trick him by showing this video, but no xD
Hi @pianistnumber8. This is simply a paradidle builder exercise. It should help you to identify weaknesses in your technique to help you play faster paradiddles. Sorry for the confusion. Try it! You might be surprised.
No demonstration? I mean, I'm all for the information here. It's really not too shabby. But I have to admit that the question about this dude's ability to play "smokin' fast" paradiddles crossed my mind.
@RCRhythm Sorry for the misleading title. This is simply a paradidle builder exercise. It should help you to identify weaknesses in your technique to help you play faster paradiddles. Sorry for the confusion. Try it! You might be surprised. Also, sorry for the lack of a demo of fast paradiddles. I'm a bit old but check out the snareline for 2001, 2002 winter RCC or 2002 Blue Devils you'll see me playing a few pretty fast. Hope this exercise helps. Thanks!
@PercussionWeekly Oh, so you know Aaron. Nice guy. I rubbed elbows with him a few times on the internet. As for the paradiddle thing: I've clocked mine at 308 as 16ths for four measures at a time, and I don't know a whole hell of a lot of people on Earth who can do that, so I'm more in to some of the rudiments I ignored as a kid; ratamacues, Swiss rudiments, etc. This practice method you've got here is pretty slick, though. I'm definitely going to use it to work my hand-to-hand ruffs. Peace!
As a snare drummer for a world class drumline in WGI, I started off with that exact same exercise, then went to paradiddle variations. This helps out so much when hoping to succeed in the percussive position. Great job PercussionWeekly.
@DJBubbaClarance Thanks for the comment. You are correct paradiddles are rlrr lrll and that is in fact what the instructor is demonstrating. This exercise is probably more suited for the player that can play paradiddles but would like to play them faster. From the video, you can see the instructor is breaking down the paradiddle to its bare bones, if you will. This is known as a paradiddle builder, as it helps you build up to the paradiddle. Give it a try, you will be surprised. Thanks!
@DJBubbaClarance He's definitely not playing paradid's but he's just isolating the hand motions. The purpose of isolating the hands is to dial in CORRECT technique.
As for your suggestion, playing more paradid's gets you nowhere if you're technique is wrong. Putting out the notes is one thing; but doing that WITH the correct technique will allow you to play them at any speed with ease, while also maintaining the same sound quality and clarity.
well hello there...you are hot.

Another trick that I do is to play additional beat at the end of the paradiddle: R L R R R L R L L L

To everyone who's confused:
He's breaking down paradiddles by first leaving some of the notes out--and then adding them in later:
R r
L l
R rr
L ll
Rlrr
Lrll
See how it builds?

MrBasslineDROP 4 months ago
That's not a paradiddle.
Paradiddle's are RLRR LRLL.
Or paradiddle-diddle's, RLRRLL.
I suggest a simple excersise doing 2 paradiddle phrases and then a paradiddle-diddle. Rinse and repeat.
