When they were rebuilt they HAD to have been regeared or else how could just one unit accelerate 8 or 9 heavy gallery cars up to speed so quickly? They used to do 100 MPH on a daily basis with the Twin City Zephyrs, and from what I've seen in pictures they were often triple-headed on the long-distance trains. The removal of the ocillating light would also be a giveaway that they were regeared as I know of NO railroads who ran cab units constantly at triple-digit speeds without them. Great vid!
That old E-Unit must still be in use today, electronic speedo instead of an analog speedo. These were great EMD Units even if they did take over the Steamers.
