If there is anyone that has tried both the Verizon and Vigin Mobile mifi. Please let me know if the Verizon mifi is worth returning my Virgin Mobile mifi. I have been disappointed with the speed and coverage of the sprint network. I often get speeds below .5 mbps. I was just wondering if Verizons mifi averages closer to 1.5 or 2 mbps. Verizon is currently offering (as of 12/23/2010) a 3GB plan for the MiFI at $35 USD a month. They claim it is promotional. Even though I am loyal to AT&T, their MiFi Plan is $60 a month for 5GB or $35 for 200 MB. I bought one from Verizon, even though I am going to get two bills. I wish AT&T could match prices.

Be warned I am on my 4th unit of MiFi.

This thing has a battery charging problem that literally cooks the battery to death.

The charging problem goes even further, it hates cigarette lighter USB chargers.

Its extremely fickle and random as to whether it will charge off a cigarette lighter charger.

For some reason the MiFi wants to only be on a computer USB.

As for playing games as he says.... NO WAY! The lag is about 10x slower then a DSL or cable modem. Corporate American whore?

The unit also disables the WiFi when its connected to a computer USB.

Considering the MiFi only likes a computer USB for charging, it means that the WiFi feature is useless.

Battery life is under 2 hours, NOT 4 hours. No way this can come near 4 hours.

Hence, its stuck being connected to a USB port while in use.

As for download speed... its all over the place. From as slow as 50 kbps (slower then a modem) to as high as 2 mbps.

5GB limit. I hit it in one week. =(

@joshuarocks102 For most people... this can be used up in a matter of seconds. Watching a ten minute youtube video can almost push you over the edge. If you can afford 40 dollars a month for 250 mb, you might as well pay 60 dollars to have 20 times the amount of data usage.

@theYTPmaster1 But this is over a 3g network. You cannot expect the speeds to be the same as your home or work network. The technology just doesn't allow that. Although, if you have a computer and want youtube videos to load faster, I recommend bywifi video accelerator. It is free, and it speeds up youtube videos, and pretty much any video on the web, even in hd. I use it and it is a lifesaver.

I got one a couple days ago and it's great, but I have a laptop as well as a desktop and when it is plugged into the desktop it won't send a wireless signal to my laptop, unless I unplug it. I can't figure out the reason for this...

yes its portable wifi. the downside i can see with this is poor battery life. using wifi on anything will run the battery down quicker. and also the price

this is a good device for someone on the go ,but i cant see this being used as a primary home network. 35 bucks gets me att internet thats 6 mbps while the mifi is around 1 mbps for 60 bucks per month. plus the midi has a 5gig cap. it can be used as gaming,but you will quickly fill that cap and experience major lag.
