I live and lived back then in Boca, about an hour South of the landfall area and sure we got a hell of a windstorm, maybe 70 MPH, but I felt like it was worse during Frances even though Frances was a cat. 2
The reason Jeanne made the loop was due to weak steering currents. At first she was being pulled north by a weakness in the general steering which pulled her north. However she was not moving fast enough to get picked up and go out to see, so as the upper ridge or high pressure built back in it forced her to do a loop and move back west.
hell yea palm bay! and yea it was fun and the next day after it was dieing down still had like 50 mph winds with 70 gusts but wasent raining. street surf sailing with a sheet, woot
I lived in Port St Luice for 20 years untill this happened... You have no clue - I lived thru this in Port St Lucie, when it hit , they eye didn't go anywhere for hours- felt like days,.. we lost power for over 4 weeks. It was hell...

Hurricanes are no "fun"
The reason Jeanne made the loop was due to weak steering currents. At first she was being pulled north by a weakness in the general steering which pulled her north. It's unbelievable how jeanne mananged to make a 270 degree loop as shown at 1:14!!! Man it sure fooled the Florida coast before the loop :(
btw, what causes some hurricanes to make loops like this one????
