  • the overheating then refridgerating is one of the top three stupidest fixes nearly up there with throwing your console in a pool and hitting it with a golf club it's just REALLY FUCKING STUPID if you know anything about electronics you are putting an ENORMOUS amount of heat stress on the console and doing exactly what causes RROD! heating it up and letting it rapidly cool!

  • Thank you! This helped- one side immediately popped out!

  • thanks alot, this helped me

  • can u still put them back on?? just asking thats all

  • @VincentBProductions ms are dumbass', everybody worked this out years ago. The constant heat cycles make the x clamps bend, warping the motherboard as well resulting in cracked gpu solder joints. What did you think caused it?

  • @VincentBProductions not sure what you're on about... the only reason you'd want the x clamps off is to perform a fix and you don't use the clamps at any stage again. They're the cause of rrod...

  • thanks man, this helped a lot. *subscribed*

  • thanx alot me and a

dad where busing our azzes thinking on how to get em off...thanx!

  • How long did this clamp?

  • lol, this is wrong. The EASIEST WAY to do this is just to push a flathead screwdriver inside and then twitch it and it will pop open in 2sec.

  • @HousedanceTanL

this will destroy the circuits bordering the x-clamp

  • @thecloner212 what the heck are u talking about? You wont destroy anything, you will just get the clamps off far more easier and much faster.

  • i needed like 10min to get them off and cut my fucking fingers!

  • The tried and true fix is not only this part here. This is just one step..

  • Thanks for posting this man. helped me :)

  • your camera is super HD

  • did anybodey else notice the videos time skips from 0:44 straight to 0:46?

  • @PoutyWand yeah because you have clear.

  • Thanks a lot man! I was about ready to pull my hair out!

  • CONCLUSION:

The overheating/refrigerating proved only to be a very temporary solution. Eventually it stopped helping at all and my XBOX 360 was dead for good. I logged into the XBOX warranty/repair site to see how much it would cost to fix. It ends up they replaced my XBOX 360 for free for this issue even though it was out of warranty. I lucked out. All I had to do was pay for the shipping to them. They sent me a re-manufactured XBOX 360 and it's been working fine for a few months now.

  • I removed mine in about, hmm, 20 seconds each. All you have to do is get a screwdriver and pry the outer edge of it. Its hard to explain, but this works to. Lol :P

  • hey i did this to my xbox because the game kept luking ugly like hella lines when iam playing a game and some one said to remove the xclamps so i did and it waz fine for like 5 minets and went bak to ugly any one have this problem dat kuld help

  • Thanks, this video is very helpful. It works great!

  • WORKS

  • does this work for 1022?

  • UPDATE:

This method on my XBOX lasted almost a year (362 days). Today I turned the XBOX on and had 3 flashing red lights. I found a quick and easy method for that one which is wrapping your XBOX in a plastic bag (fitting for something that is dead :) ) and turning it on and letting it overheat for 25 mintues. Mine cut itself off after about 10 minutes. Then I placed it in the fridge for 30 minutes. Then it worked again. Who knows for how long. I'll update the status as time goes on.

  • @carwilej My friend did the same thing with my xbox, cause he thinks hes really good with electronics or something (he just didnt put it in the fridge) and it only lasted about 20 minutes, then, out of his "infinite wisdom" of electronics, decided to try it again. Worked for about 10 minutes, then again, and it worked until we tried to play a game. I wouldnt do it if I were you, Im pretty sure its bad for your xbox. lol

  • @carwilej

dipshit stop spreading gay rumors queer. go find something productive to do like shoving your head in a plastic bag for 10 minutes. go fuck yourself asshole~

  • Microsoft is stupid for putting the x clamps in there in the first place

  • Lol just take a screwdriver and put it between the xlamp and the attechment. Then just go 90 degress left or right then you are done in 10 sec.

  • @GonY93 yip! I used the smallest screwdriver from a mini set. Worked easy.

  • @caperUnderscore26 Good job!

  • wow... I tried that. It worked better than I thought xD thanks lol life saver :p

  • I can do it in around 10 seconds... for both.

  • i second that.

  • @YoungGeekGuy holy shit your an animal

  • No really, get a flat head and get it between the copper and the board and the end of the clamp. If you do it right it should pop off in 1-3 seconds, repeat for one more leg and you should be able to pull the clamp off.

  • I slipped doing this last night and I knocked a couple of components off my Xbox. Thankfully my friend had a 'Red Ringed' Xbox lying around so I was able to use that. This video has saved me a lot of grief!

  • GREAT!

  • can u send me a link to the parts i need to bolt down the heatsinks?

  • I just added a link in the comments to the right of the video above to the PDF that contains the instructions and parts list.

    Good luck

  • Thanks!

  • great vid, good quality, and it was a big help! thnx.

  • You are a life saver man.

Just a note. I used the Screwdriver that i used to remove the Xclamp screws on the back. Slid it right in and poped the clamps off. Worked easier than tongs.

Subbed just for the help. Cheers.

  • does the xbox 360 work without the x clamps???? i need to know soon

  • The X-clamp is Microsoft's initial design to clamp the heatsink down onto the GPU and CPU. It just also happens to warp the motherboard. Removing the X-Clamps all together and just bolting the heat sinks down has worked great for me for 7 months now. Not a single issue since I made the modification.

  • Comment removed

  • @carwilej - I see huge warping on flacon boards which don't use the x-clamps which eventually cause a permanent irreversible rrod. So I just got a Zephyr system and modded it to 12v immediately. The board looked super flat compared to the falcon system. I think the X-clamps are genius. Just throw on the Whisper fans at 12V and a Thermalright TR-360 on any version of xbox not including slim and it should last literally FOREVER.

  • apparently it does because i just opened mine fully (i bought it used from gamestop about two years ago) and there were no x clamps. i went and bought screws and washers to fix the three red lights but i have no x clamps!! what the hell do i do now. i guess when gamestop refurbished it they took out the actual x clamps. i didnt know that was possible. Any help anyone?

  • @somfin000 Yes, However I would not recommend it at all. With heat, the board warps like no other without them and causes the gpu to seperate from the board. The x-clamps keep the board flat since you mount it to the exterior housing which works beautifully. The best way to keep your 360 cool enough to not RROD is 12V on both fans. Yeah it's loud but even at 12V the GPU gets pretty hot. Not scorching but a lot cooler than at 5V or 9V or whatever.Or just get the whisper fan for like $10 ebay

  • DUDE I did it in 5 secs! Very Nass!

  • best tool to use is a hook pic its safer and qwicker

  • It works!!Tanks man!

  • i fucking love you

  • So I just started to laugh at you for making this, cause I was just like "boo this will never work."

And then I started making fun of you for that last step of prying the opposite side up. And then I shut my mouth cause it actually worked.

My apologies, this method rocks! No mobo scratches!!

  • I was surprised that it worked myself. I was just trying to pry the end off the clamp away and the other side of the clamp just popped off. I thought I'd never be able to do that again but it worked easily for the others.

    Good luck with your repair.

  • Luck helped...

    Fixed the console!

    5/5

  • what is under the x clamps? the cpu and gpu?

  • There's nothing below the X-Clamps but directly on the other side of the motherboard you'll find the CPU and the GPU. One X-Clamp holds a heat sink tightly to the CPU and the other X-Clamps holds a heat sink down onto the GPU. This design is flawed because it bends the motherboard and slowly over time the connections between the chips and the motherboard deteriorate because of the motherboard bending and internal heat. Check out my other video "Slideshow of What's Under the Xbox 360 X-Clamps"

  • yea i think its the same. Rrod with nothin coming up on the screen at all. i took it apart, now im jus wondering what i should do next... maybe try the penny thing? im not sure.

  • Did you run the XBOX with the heat sinks off for a while? It should overheat after a few minutes and the overheating will resolder the connections. Let it cool and put the heat sinks back on.

  • i got my xbox fixed by having the xclamps removed. it worked for about 5 months. now its back to RRod. so wat should i do?

  • Are you getting the same error codes as you were before you removed the X-clamps?

  • This is great!!! I have this same error code, and I bought the hardware to perform this fix. How long has your Xbox 360 stayed fixed?

  • 5 months strong! Not a single hiccup! I never would have thought some low-tech nuts, bolts and washers would have fixed it (or at least lasted very long) but it has! Best of luck with your fix!

  • boo. you copied "PeachyHandsomeman"'s How To Take Off the XBox 360 X-Clamps the RIGHT Way video.

lame. copiers dont deserve credit. booo

  • Nope, never seen that one before. But I looked at it and it is very similar.

  • while everyone are having trouble removing it...i have trouble putting it back

  • so you are bending it?

  • Yeah, I discovered that if you put the right pressure on the clamp that it bends just right and the other end pops out. Good luck.

  • wow. i was having

some trouble removing the clamps. your method is incredible. i did it in 10 seconds :D

  • Glad you got the X-Clamps off and hopefully your XBOX is working again. It's been 4 months or so since I replaced my X-Clamps and the XBOX is holding strong. Have fun!

  • thx for your support :P

i'm just cleaning it and removing the thermal grease. i'm waiting for my repair kit to arrive (it's just some bolts and washers) and hopefully it's gonna work. which method did you use ? new x-clamps ?

i got the 3 red rings yesterday :( spoiled my weekend off big time.

  • I used the LAWDAWG0931 method which supplies a list of part numbers for nuts, washers and bolts at Lowe's (about 8 bucks worth). I was skeptical that it would work but it does.

  • post another one to see the results

  • The 360 is holding up great to my son's relentless playing of Star Wars Lego. Since I did this fix I haven't had a single problem with it. I never would have thought that a handful of screws and washers from Lowe's would have fixed it but lo-tech wins again!

  • you will get the 0102 error again.. mines had the same error and i did the x-clamp ang it worked for a few days and then i got the rror again but after i do the towel trick it will worked for another 3 to 4 days and i been doind this for a while now so good luck with your fix...
