Haha. The way meandering rivers became oxbow lakes was on my syllabus too. I don't think I've ever heard the word "oxbow" said outside of school. They didn't half teach us some useless rubbish. Another thing was the names of clouds. Who cares if it's a cirrus or a cumulo-fucking-nimbus? It's just a cloud, fer godsake!
@Rhynome No. But I remember from my geography lessons there was a youth hostel on an escarpment near Ullapool. We studied the same OS map so many times that I knew the precise height above sea-level of the youth hostel. I used to have nightmares in which everything I saw was covered in contour lines.
@Rhynome, there is a very famous Ox-bow lake effect near Stirling Castle that was the site of the infamous Bannockburn massacre of the Engerlish army by Robert the Bruce in 1314, its easy to see on Google earth.
Haha. What were you doing? A Levels? AS? GCSE? I like geography (want to do it at Uni) but I can understand why other people don't. I get pretty bored of Rivers (it turns up every year in every bloody syllabus!). What's more, I had absolutely awful teachers this year, so didn't help!
i hate oxbow lakes, i did three months of geo this year then dropped it (stopped showing), but fuck, its ruined the world for me, i can look at a lovely winding river and think "aw.. pleasant" because i know how its formed and how bloody boring that is. Waterfalls, Jesus, they've totally lost all appeal.
Fuck The Colorado River Management Scheme!
My teacher was fat too, don't get me started on that subject tho.
