I can not believe I am saying that I miss those days. The 70's were boring and disco sucked but music is much worse now. I miss the quaaludes and the microdot too. Hey I am not going to give in to being politically correct. "F" that noise
As a kid of the 80's and having caught a part of the 70's, I can say that today as a grown man, I'm jealous of all the technology the kids get today, but I think the kids are jealous of the quality of the music we adults had growing up. It was SO much better than the crap on the radio today. No class, false pride, fake image, etc. The artists from my childhood were vulnerable, humble and talented. They had to stand on what they created.
The end of music was like 4 years ago when the song "it's hard out here for a pimp" was nominated for something like best song for a movie soundtrack. I was so embarrassed for my country that we would put THAT up as the "best" of ANYTHING. I knew music died in the mainstream at that moment.
The Bee Gees if you see them somewhere and they start to sing - a light starts shining and you get goose bumps and tingles and I get are memorized. They were gifted. They go farther back than Saturday Night Fever but in mid-70's they ruled the radio.
What a line up . Yep - that's how it was in those days. And we can thank the radio that played all the artists of the time on one or two stations. then they went to have specialty stations with only 1 genre and then the ipod and ear plugs eliminated the spark of creativity - who can hear what someone else is listening to - how do you know what to add to the sound of the day? I t's a conspiracy I tell ya. How can you know music if you don't hear it?
Fabulous music, wasn't Barry so spunky back then WOW, Neil Diamond wasn't hard on the eyes either. Oh the rantings of an old girl, those were the days!!!!
From the looks of the people in the audience during the songs, people were actually interested in the acts then. Nowadays, they have to pay people to stand in the "pits" during a performance to make sure it looks like people like the crap they are hearing.
The 70s were fun and the music was great. I slept outside all night to get tickets to see the Bee Gees in 1978 - the height of the white suit hysteria. Seeing them in the front row was pretty crazy! (P.S. I miss Gerry Rafferty and fight that good fight Robin Gibb!)
Bee Gees definitely should have won over Billy Joel... but they got redemption with album of the year! Thanks for posting and sharing this treasure. Loved seeing Andy throughout the clip and during the presenting. and of course watching the Bee Gees accept their grammy. This was a time when the music and these shows were worth watching! Now a days, it is mostly trash and a waste of time (inmyopinion!) Loving the Bees Gees and Andy Gibb forever!
This is freakin awesome. I'd much rather watch an old grammy's show over a recent one any day. I probably haven't watched one since the early eighties. Thanks for posting
P.S. I thought "Staying Alive" should have one. I think it's proven to be the bigger hit over the years.
Incredible clip. So many wonderful performers that have either passed or faded away....and became legends...the standard to which all aspire to be, but fail to recognize.
they had 20 people or so go up there to receive the award, and yet kept the speach to under 30 seconds. Now they are all over 3 minutes long, and they even thank the crack dealers, the doctor that delivered them, the guy at the pretzel stand, etc, etc.
These were the days when music had meaning and heart and you could understand the words. lol I remember watching this, these artist were so amazing I so love listening to the 70's and 80's music. Guess I still live in the past in allot of ways, but those days were truly a great music era. Thanks for sharing the memories. Michelle
I so love seeing and watching Andy Gibb he was so adorable and sweet. This was the time of class and the time of being a true professional. So sad also that John Denver is no longer here.
Gorgeous Barry, beautiful Maurice, adorable Robin and sweet Andy - I'm so envious of anyone who got to see them perform live. There just isn't anything like this today. Mo and Andy may be gone from our world but are forever in our hearts. I wish Barry, Robin, Leslie, Barbara and the rest of the Gibb family all the best. Thank you for sharing.
My God !!! What a night !! I wish I could be there !!!!!!!!!!! Today everything is empty without the feeling threse stars used to do music they DID Had Passion!!!!
Tough competition! Stayin Alive should have won, but Saturday Night Fever album DID. Billy Who? I was shocked I knew every song nominated. My old brain isn't so foggy after all. Now I feel like dancing, dancing, dancing the night away. Thanks so much for posting this.
@LukeShoveller I was not just talking about Andy, and I mean, I cannot compare him to todays stars at all, he WAS an angel in comparison to Liam bloody Gallagher!!, John Denver was a nice guy, and he didn't do drugs, if that is what you are referring to as regards being ''well behaved'', jeez let Andy rest in peace! Some people!!
Andy Gibb and John Denver, two beautiful musicians taken far too soon.....Andy looked like an Angel........the stars back then were real and heartfelt...what happened to humanity? It sure aint like this now.....I wanna cry sometimes seeing the way people behave now.....
I have no issue with many current stars being lambasted, but Andy was hardly well 'behaved' in his career in comparison either, the world of celebrity hasn't changed much, there are simply more media forms that allow you to be aware about what is happening. It's very little to do with an alteration in humanity.
@LukeShoveller Loved Andy!! Yeah he made a lot of bad choices, after all he was what 18-20 when he got thrown ito the music world. Lots of pressure for any age however, it seems before his death he was starting to get straightened out. Andy brought us wonderful music and acting and for that I am eternally grateful to him. RIP Andy! Also the Bee Gees ROCKED as well!
