  • Kinda looks like a nintendo ds.

  • Ashens, anyone?

  • don't have to worry it opens in your pocket? :D What size pockets do you have?

  • I want to see combat evolved on that thing

  • 0:22 no fallout on pandora D:

  • this is so epic

  • I ahve a question: How much would it costs to get it delivered from germany to the Netherlands (Including VAT and all)? Also when should I expect delivery if I were to order now?

    Thanks for your help!

  • What's for stands HELLOLO ?

  • @madanchi08 tsk tsk tsk, what you guys don't seem to realize is Its a touchscreen, thus if you run a ds emulator you would still be able to play the ds games ^-^

  • DS copy??

  • @ApartMovies hell no!

  • @ApartMovies ds has 2 screens and no keyboard? lol and this is a full computer

  • Yeah, I want that thing.

  • OMFG!!!! SO COOL!!!

  • its nice, but i dont see the point in the touch screen

  • @TechSupportx86: I think one of the designers said it was the same cost as a regular LCD panel, so they just threw it in.

  • Y

    A B X

    wat.

  • Uhh. . . Gaming console. . . Duhh. . .

Maybe you should read before asking.

  • I like how you just assumed what I meant. Also, I didn't ask anything.

It's just only of the only occasions where those buttons are placed.

  • Oh. Pardon me. I'm used to what/wat/wut being used for questions. . .

  • Two drawbacks:

    1. No screw on the battery cover and the battery isn't very snug. If those plastic fasteners on the cover snap (as they tend to do) the battery is goin' to keep falling out.

    2. Looks like Windows :(

  • 5* FTW. I can't wait to get my hands on it!!

  • within two weeks of release, I guarantee full graphical overhauls and custom themes. just you wait.

The first complaint might or might not become an issue, but it probably will because I treat my handhelds pretty roughly.

  • I know. I just heard about it yesterday. Everything gets overhauled when it's Linux. But the first thing I noticed was it resembles Windows. Eww. . . ?

  • Check out the new "Panorama" menu/launcher by dflemstr (in the Pandora dev board on the GP32X forums). It looks absolutely amazing.

  • @LordHawke13 Linux isn't so much about the interface as it is about the kernel, modularity and hackability.

In fact, the interface doesn't have anything to do with Linux at all. You could run a text interface, a GUI, or a 'sound interface' for that matter.

  • @nikhilesh93 Damn!! All I said was the look they chose is similar to Windows. Geesh!!

And I know Linux has nothing to do with the interface. Actually, "Linux" doesn't have an interface AT ALL! This is GNU/Linux. Pure Linux is just the kernel that GNU is now using for their combined OS formally called GNU/Linux. I know!!

All I was mentioning was, to me, Pandora's choice in themes resembles the look of old Windows.

  • @LordHawke13 lol, ok good. :-) I was hoping it wasn't another one of those people who're right after the interface and think Linux 'sucks' just looking at the surface.

Good to see you're into the real stuff behind Linux.

    ;-)

  • You can make it look literally like anything you want. But half the time, I'm at the command line. Even on Macs.

  • @LordHawke13 Haha, me too. Not used Macs much, but my friend showed me his Macbook once. I saw a terminal-like icon, fired it up. Tried 'vim', and I was delighted to see it there. :-)

  • @nikhilesh93 Yeah!! Didn't ya know? They both have the same shells. BASH, SH, etc. Apples are just snobby about it and think they're better by default.

  • @LordHawke13 Yeah well, it's based on BSD. I was just surprised to see vim already installed on his system. Nice. :D

  • @nikhilesh93

As far as I'm aware, 'bout every Mac OS has VIM already installed on it. Probably just because the only thing they really change (at least with OS X) is the GUI and all the eye-candy functionality. They may change some things but the shells, CLI built-ins, and pre-installed UNIX programs stay relatively the same. . .

  • @LordHawke13

Yeah, old themes = better performance lol.

  • Replacing my DS with this would be pretty nice, especially since i mostly just played emulated games or old awesome opensource games like doom :P

  • This sounds perfect for wardriving. Could just pop it in my pocket and go do my normal stuff.

  • Is it running on Ubuntu?

  • No, probably their own distro using KDE.

  • @lollypopdude It's a linux distro called Angstrom.

  • Riiigghhhttt

  • It's Angstrom, and it's running using the XFCE desktop from what I can tell.

  • Looks like the DS and PSP had a baby.

    An ugly baby.

  • Lol'd

  • @ WillP999 This isn't even the final Pandora the final one will look better. Also this device is way faster than the DS and PSP.

  • I don't care?

  • Why would you be posting if you didn't care?

  • Sorry, i should have been clearer.

I meant i don't care about what you have to say.

  • WillP999, why did you have a question mark after "care"? Were you not sure whether you cared or not? :p

  • omg now can't wait... way better than what i expected

  • The keyboard looks good, way better than any virtual keyboard.

  • @ferrybeer its called SuperTux, its the Linux version of Mario

  • It looks so cheap plastic for such a high tech product

  • It's not the final finition.

  • @TaterThao The final parts will have a matte finish. This was a batch of cases, they received for testing purposes.

  • Well its a prototype.. so they might up the quality for the final ones.

  • NINTENDO DS ON CRACK!!!!.....I want one!

  • This looks soooooo awesome, am I glad I preordered from the first batch :D

  • is this able to play mmorpgs?

  • I think you don't get the point of the device.

by the way, if you have the mmorpg code sources, a port can be made, and you will be able to play it.

Since it's probably not what you expect, my answer is:

    It can but wont.

  • Looks damn nice, I wish I could have got one, but I'm just a student now.

  • ok so i email them and then pay via google checkout? if i email them now i will get it next year right?

  • Long wait anyone haha talk about me, I have ordered from the first batch October 2008!!! Dang!

Still waiting. Hope it will be delivered soon!

  • AWESOME job on the video! Can't wait for a release!

  • Because people don't know how to spell "why".

  • that doesn't make any sense

  • showahguy, the nintendo ds is a flat fake pandora.

  • so your saying that the Nintendo ds copied the pandora even thought the Ds was released years ago.

  • you don´t get it, do you?

  • showahguy, I'm laughing at you.

  • skeen

  • you know what ?

My laptop looks like a giant nintendo ds ! o___O

  • really? OMG i want one!!!!

  • @EvilDragon: 3D stuff and PMenu Pleasseee!

  • "keyboard work pretty good but... take a look for yourself" "pretty nice keys, works pretty well" Doesn't sound very good at all to me

  • That's because you don't speak EvilDragon. No soup for you.

  • Absolute ingeniously! You got 5 :D

  • soon... its gonna be mine >)

  • You can use the analog stick for the mouse. It will be included later.

  • THE MUSIC WAS PERFECT!!!

Nice and cheery, thanks for another video.

  • I love you

  • There's a physical switch. If the switch is set to the off position, then I don't see how the Pandora could power up automatically.

  • Is the BIOS set to power on as soon as it gets power?

  • No, it's the TI hardware. Battery insertion is a power on event and it is automatic. I would rather it stayed off until I pressed the power switch, but that's just how it works.

  • So basically the first time you put a battery in it WILL start instantly. Making a mental note to make sure I'm ready to do the system set up when I do. I dont think it'll be a big problem. (most people will be ina rush to crank it up when they get it anyway).

  • Looks awesome...so glad I ponied up the dough, and stuck with it. Congrats to the team, I hope you sell tonnes of these beauties!

  • I have 2 question.

How Fast is Monitor responding (is it blurry or is it nice blurry xD)

And will i be able to use it as notebook for Excel and Word?

  • I can't remember the response time data off the top of my head, but I know the numbers are good. Look for reviews on the Archos 605 - it's the same LCD. ;-)

You won't be able to run Microsoft Word or Excel, but you will be able to work with the files using Linux equivalent software like OpenOffice, Abiword etc.

  • @ValugaTheLord

Excel & Word won't run on Linux. But You could use AbiWord & Gnumeric.

  • Nice to see the Dpad works for menus. But how well does the nubs work as a mouse?

Anyways, great video ED, can't wait to see more :)

  • Thank you ED for these videos

  • OMG =D

All this time is worth every byte of it =D

And a little bit closer to... my pandora!!

    Thank u!

  • Smashing

  • There are more clamshells in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in Nintendo's philosophy.

  • Two years into the design and this is your comment?: )

  • wow, i'm very sorry to hear the story of who this video is dedicated to (see pandora blog). can't wait to have my own pandora. nice video.

  • very nice. i must get myself one of these as soon as possible. im just still a little confused regarding preorders.

  • You can still pre-order. The process is simple:

Buy your Pandora with a credit card. Then await a refund from OP (a month or two). Then transfer money to OP via Bank Transfer. OP will give you a date that it will be shipped, which will be two months from now. Next month, it will be two months. After a year, it will be two weeks, if all is well. OP will schedule the CE tests for two weeks after /that/. Another month of "two weeks" should be enough, and you'll get your pandora!

  • Too bad CE testing has already been scheduled for the 28th of December. And you can pay with credit card via Google Checkout. Nice try though~

  • I was being a tad facetious :-)

This was my experience when ordering, and yes, I do follow the forums... 28th Dec for the CE testing, eh? How did they /ever/ expect to get any out before christmas?

  • Alright, as long as you weren't just being an ass :P.

And I understand how ordering went for you, I didn't order 'til about March this year- but I know what happened with the banks and everything. And it has been a long wait :P

It will be worth it though~ I think they could have pulled off shipping before Christmas if the first case got the green light (I'm not sure if it needs CE testing to ship or not). But, I'd rather wait another month than get a screwy case.

  • ROFLMFAO :P

Yeah, the sons of a b*tches:P

How they've managed to fool us ;)

And we just taking that for granted right?

Think it will be not until February/March!!
