I got to see this performed on the last leg of the 10K days tour. They closed with it; there was so much energy in the room it was unreal. Best song I've ever heard live from any band hands down. I like listening to the live versions of Flood on youtube, closing my eyes, and pretending I'm back in that moment, lol.

Since you like this song so much, i will tell you why the song builds so slow, incase you never thought about it. It's so obvious yet everyone I have asked can't tell me.  Think Hurricane Katrina, water rises slower and slower. There is a bit of symbolism but what would you expect from Maynard. Just look at the symbols for his aggressive male band, penis shaped wrench. And for his softer side APC, ( ) which strongly resembles a vagina. Not many have connected those dots either. Cheers!

Well, for every Tool song there is like a billion interpretations. I think Maynard is using a flood as symbolism for an addiction overcoming him once again. That is what I get from the song. The slow build up is the addiction creeping up on him like a flood after he thought he had kicked it. This song isn't about Katrina if that is what you were saying. This song came out in like 93?

I was just using Katrina as an example. Obviously I don't think that's what the song is about. Katrina happened on my birthday and I remember thinking about this song when the water was rising slowly and killing people. I'm glad this song means that for you. I've played guitar and piano for fifteen years and music is supposed to mean whatever the listener wants it to mean. Just saying the slow build up is what happens in a flood. Can't deny the symbolism in ( ) and a phallic wrench can u?

you have to use a video decoder, then you must transport the sound, convert it into a WAV format, then convert that into mp3 convert that into mp4 which ipods will only play, so .... No you can't... Hope that helps.

Actually you can. I have the most recent Real Player which allows me to save the video to my hard drive in .flv format. From there I use Total Video Converter to convert to mp4 and voila!
