I saw this play in may at the local high school and it was so amazing! The singers were so good! I didn't really enjoy the singing of the Male lead in this one :P
I'm a freshman in college, and we are learning this song. I absolutely love it, but the lead male can not sing. I understand its musical theater but if you cant hit the high notes don't. It's that simple and for the female, she sounded great until the high F i think it was, the one at the very end. She went from a wonderful soprano voice to very nasally. You should always keep your jaw elongated and your soft pallet raised to prevent that from happening. :)
in the beginning of the song the words are a bit choppy, a little more flow would be nice. and be careful when your approcing notes like on "alive" more breath support will keep you on top of the note as opposed to right under it!
@BernardProfitendieu Well, our city is named Lincoln, so it has to do with where we live. Get it, Lincoln Southwest? Meaning Southwest of Lincoln? Yeah, creative I know...
@BernardProfitendieu ? I got it the first time. That's why I was explaining why it was named Lincoln. And Lincoln has 300,000+ people, it's not a hicktown. Oh well.
As someone who has probably seen more community theater and high school productions than most anyone alive...this whole production is really very impressive.
I played Mr. Lundie in our HS production of Brigadoon. I was so envious that I could not play the male lead and sing this song. I swear this song was written for me. I'm in love everyday. I don't get why hate exists. Great. Now I can't get this song out of my mind. Love Fiona!
At my school's musical Brigadoon, what made it really funny is that Jeff jumped on stage wearing a kilt and when he sat down to hear tommy sing he would tuck it between his legs. HALARIOUS
So, I am doing this show. I am playing Tommy. I have to disagree with ecjbdafoever. I hate the Gene Kelly version. It was a show directed by, produced by, and starred by Gene Kelly. This kid sings much better than Gene Kelly, even with how terrible the kid was. I think he did a great job. Jeff was acting like a dusche cause that's his job, to act.
The dancing left much to be desired for. I really love Gene Kelly's version - the movie, you know. But then again, its unfair to compare this poor boy to Gene Kelly.
Gene Kelly's version cut both the lyrical act two songs, turned this song into a complete solo feature and added himself a dance break that doesn't exist in the original score. The amount of movement shown here is about right for this song staged-version-wise, though it could be done a little more exuberantly.
Who actually goes word for word? It was the same concepts.. and I'm sure you were wonderful but we're all entertainers.. we should be supportive. He's clearly very talented.
Totally agree, he should stick to theatre if it makes him happy.. That Jeff Douglas was a little douschey though.. I'm not smokin' the actor because i'm sure he's great.. Not really a great character though.. He's supposed to be a drunk.. Nothing here in this specific clip portrays him that way.. Also, he's supposed to be a sarcastic asshole.. Again, this Jeff Douglas is merely a country club regular who may drink a lite scotch from time... I'm sure it was an overall awesome production..
isn't the other guy supposed to be drunk

so my high school which ironicly is also a Lincoln High..is doing Brigadoon this year!! :)
tayloroleson 2 years ago
@tayloroleson that's not irony, sister - just a run of the mill coincidence - half the schools in the US are named Lincoln

The reason that there is no dancing in this or any
stage production of"Brigadoon"? Was because it was
written and staged as a romantic musical fantasy with only
a certain ammount of dancing. Only The MGM movie musical had alot of dancing..or so
said my friend..Mr.Dwain Smith..who had appeared in
a community theater production of the show.

I really liked Jeff's character. In our school's production "our Jeff" made his sarcasm stick out way too much, like he was lecturing the audience.
I love this song so much (except these 2 were way off beat with each other).

I'm singing this for an audition next month, and hope I can sound gooood.... I'm not a soprano. :D

Then don't sing it.
clownrus 2 years ago
No, I mean technically it's in a lower key, like the key Tommy sings it in, not Fiona. If I had to sing fiona's part I'd be doomed. :)
ObsessedwithBroadway 2 years ago
Her end note made me want to pull my ear drums out with a pair of pliers.
I believe she was too sharp...or she forced it.
And he went flat with any note he held....
Otherwise, I liked it.
Then again, this is a high school production. D:
