This song was on Todd Rundgren's "Something/Anything" album back in 1972, but it was his friend and keyboard player Mark "Moogy" Klingman who wrote the song. It's the only song on that double album not written by Todd. Todd's version was performed completely live in the studio.
Axl nails the emotion on this one - very similar to the original except no horns. He sings it like he lived it.
That is a very... sad song. I sort of had a picture of Axly dying in his bed writting this as a letter... and thanks to my fucking over creative mind I'm crying now...
GUNS-AND ROSES HAVE HEART THIS A GREAT SHOUT OUT TO PEOPLE WHO HAD PASS LOSSES AND LIVING IN THIS (SHALLOW) WORLD ,NOT SO MUCH THE WORLD,BUT HOW PEOPLE HAVE GAINED AND LOST...
Ok, have to say, this is NOT a Kansas's version, maybe the name is questionable, but, how many song has the same name???..This is a totally different song in every way. It's a pity this never was released.. :-( GUNS N' ROSES 4EVER IN EVERY WAY TOO)!!!
Maybe it would have been questionable to name a song Dust in the Wind after Kansas kinda made that one their own, but this song is a bit older. Gotta wonder how many hits Todd gets from people looking for Kansas, eh?

This ain't the Kansas version.. notice the entirly different lyrics? The different instruments? The different melody? different sound? different tempo? Different everything? yea thought so... This is actually a Todd Rundgren song
@diegorvc no .... if you mean better than the kasnas's one, no ... kansas rule ... if you mean better than the new GNR style, then you are totaly right
