Nothing you say will be of ANY help to you. Telling your side of the story WILL NOT help you. Cops NEVER testify on behalf of those whom they've arrested and interrogated. Cops ALWAYS testify AGAINST those whom they've arrested and interrogated. If the cops have prosecutable evidence let them use it in court.
A jailed person's admission of guilt IS the cops' case against that jailed person. If the cops had an actionable case against the jailed person then the jailed person's admission of guilt would be unnecessary. Don't let the cops hold court in an interrogation room.
There is a great book that has a chapter or two dedicated to the "Reid Technique" it's called "Mistakes Were Made But Not By Me". It's an incredible book. To sum up some of the ideas about these interrogation methods: the police who conduct the interviews only do so against those who they believe are guilty, never "innocent people". Also, they truly believe that they are superior in spotting liars, even though all evidence tested that their "spotting" was no better than chance.
The first police officer, really has no idea what he's doing... The way he's talking to the "bad guy" it's easy to tell he has no stratagy for his interview. It's almost like he was thrown at this case with no preperation. This would be considered bad, bad, bad police work for a shop lifting case much less a murder. The second police officer did a little better with the interview part.... but he gave away to much information... again!! bad, bad police work....
Wait, so let me get this straight. The kid had a dream that he had something to do with it, and his friends called the cops on him, and now he's admitting to hitting somebody?
I'm sorry, but did this kid NOT do this to himself? Of course if you go around saying you might have been involved in a murder and admit to hitting the victim, you're going to get in trouble.
If I got the wrong idea here, or maybe I just am not understanding, can someone kindly clear it up for me?
@SixStringsOFury What happened is that he had a dream about him and his friend being involved in a murder case that was unsolved. It wasn't until the anniversary of the victim that he said that he kept on having this weird dreams about a murder and he thought him and his friend Ryan did it. One friend called the police on them and got Ryan and Chuck arrested. After that, as you can see in the video, the police spoonfed Chuck and made him testify against Ryan who is in jail for 40 years now.
@SixStringsOFury Also Ryan is innocent because he doesn't remember anything! He wasn't there.. first of all the guy was murdered around 2:30 am (when a witness called police) and the club this kids were at closed at 1:30! there is nooo waaay they stuck around and murder somebody and went back to the club.. which Chuck says they did, when there was no club! Also wouldn't anybody had seen them with blood all over them? the crime was brutal and they didn't have not even one drop of blood.
@SixStringsOFury ONE MORE THING lol.. the mind plays games on you. If you start thinking about something and keep on paying full attention to it, your mind will create a false memory, this is proved by research. Therefore what I'm thinking is that Chuck imagined everything and kept on thinking about it, then dreamed about it, confused himself, created a false memory, and believes he actually did it. Worst part he got an innocent guy in jail when he testified against him.
This video confuses me. First, it does not give the outline of what happened. It just shows Erickson getting interrogated. The viewers of the this video do not know the whole story. Second, the video states that he only hit the victim one time. Then the video states that Erickson wasn't even there. Erickson was obviously there because he hit the victim. The typical answer, "I dont remember" usually goes hand in hand with deception. Just sayin...
Tyranny ! Corrupted ! Thomas Jefferson once said that:
“When the people fear the government, that's tyranny; when the government fears the people, that's freedom."
When Police lies and mainpulates to get a false confession that is not justice... yet it is done every day by them as that is how they get their bonuses and commissions and in tough economic times many of them do not care about justice or ruining innocent people's lives, they care about their paychecks.
I was once a suspect in a robbery , 1st degree , robbery one and assault and I didn't do shit, but noticed how detectives would get caught in there own lies , make up names, people witnesses , play friendly , play scary, I told a detective " Your full of shit , I plead the fifth based on your lies " they said too late, I said " Another lie " and made a huge fiasco in the police station while I pleaded the fith, .. They spoon feed for open and shut cases
I'm a huge police supporter, I think they are totally necessary for society. THAT being said, I would never talk to a cop in this type of scenario without lawyer up. I've seen enough cop shows and heard enough bad cases like this to know that the most innocent thing that you think lightly of can and will be twisted in THEIR best interest, not yours. They say that lawyering up makes you look guilty but that's just a scare tactic to get you to implicate yourself.
Is there no one involved in this whole thing that has a conscience or any common sense? There is no evidence that either one of them was there except some lunatic saying he might have been involved and only knows what he read in the paper. Who are these interrogators anyway? How do they get away with this kind of treatment? And, the biggest question of all, how does the prosecutor get to be a judge? Is this the kind of ridiculousness that is called justice in Columbia, MO? Free Ryan Ferguson!
Good lord, for Ryan to get 40 years from this it means there was a systemic failure of the entire legal system. Police, Prosecutors, Grand Jury, Jurors and Defense Attorneys all ignored reality. Scary Scary Scary. Let's hope Ryan gets another day in court.
For anyone that wants to see why you never talk to the police, search youtube for "DONT TALK TO THE POLICE"
Seeing Columbia PD and their shady detectives does not surprise me in the least bit. I love how the detective says, "I'm going to start talking and you're going to start listening." Excuse me, sir.. That's all you've done the entire time. Wow. They are suppose to 'Protect and Serve', not pin a murder on two innocent individuals. Its sickening and these people don't deserve to have badges. No evidence, no witnesses to tie them to the crime. Because they weren't there. How do they sleep at night?
I have been interrogated. The cops are not your friend. They dont care if you did it or not. All they want is the arrest and charge. There is only three things you need to say to them and only three things. 1. I dont know. 2. I dont know. 3. Fuck no. You have the right to remain silent so if your going to say anything to them tell them that. And when they ask the were were you bull shit say you dont remember cause you dont track what your doing every hour and second.
Some people are just stupid. You have the RIGHT TO REMAIN SILENT and right to a lawyer. If cops have you locked up in a small room and they're intimidating you. Don't fall for the trap! The only thing that should be coming out of your mouth is "I want to speak to a lawyer". That's it!
@Delta0prative Chuck was mentally unstable. He had a history of drug abuse in his early teens and was disturbed all around. In fact he was even taken to a psychologist (way before any of this) and it was confirmed as well, a fact that was not brought up in the original trial because it was all a setup. This is just the prosecutor and police force finding and exploiting a weakness like sociopaths do. To expect somebody emotionally/mentally to "stand up" to a domineering figure is just ignorant.
I know not all cops are like this, but I just see so many videos of police bullsh*t... I have no faith in out justice system. i'm 19 years old by the way... Not some opinionated old man.
This should be the fucking top featured video on youtube right now. This was the only thing that got me to go to freeyanferguson website Apparently there is hope for getting this kid out of jail
I would have called the guy an idiot and told him to get the hell out of there, he didnt even know what was used to to kill the victim. I know police have a nasty tendancy to just throw a rock in any direction and bust who ever it hits but this guy is trying to go to jail and they have to be ignorant not to see he doesnt know a damn thing.
I'm a lil slow, but can someone please clear something up for me.. They are interviewing, Chuck Erickson, but Ryan served the time. Also, it's said that he had a dream, so he came forward. What jury will convict on a dream, with no evidence tying him to the crime scene. I pray that God will somehow set him free.
NEVER TALK TO THE POLICE !! Guilty or innocent. Doesn't matter. If you find yourself in an interrogation room , shut your mouth and keep it shut until you are represented by a lawyer. Then still keep quiet. They cannot force you to talk. It will not help you in any way and they will twist anything you say against you.
The more I read about this trial-and I'd never heard about it before seeing a rerun of CBS 48 hours last week-the happier I am I don't live in Missouri.
I'm not a legal expert. Is there anyone who can explain how this confession was at all admissible in court? It seems that the defense should have made a motion to exclude this, and the judge should have seen this tape and thrown the whole thing out.
There's perhaps reason to wonder if Ryan Ferguson MIGHT have been involved in the Heithold murder, but from what I've seen of the evidence, this case should never even have gone to court.
OMG! Really, So next we should hear that these detectives got let go right? How the hell did they get away with this? And the jury actually convicted both these kids after seeing this recording. The cops telling him exactly what he needs to think he did, when he clearly has no idea. WTF? And the cop even told him not to say that the story was fabricated. Damn, the jury, the police and the prosecutor ( who, btw, is now a judge) need to all be put in jail for being the stupidest people on earth
Best thing to do is tell em everything you know and once they start asking the same questions just refuse to speak. Otherwise you'll be there all day and eventually they'll trip you up and then its all over
Classic case of the "Reid technique". This was used on me at my job. They said I was stealing checks from the register. I hate checks and never wrote one in my life. Why would I take someone elses? But in the end I confessed to giving my friends discounts. I even gave them a specific dollar amount. Even wrote a confession and signed it. But it never happened. My friends also said they never bought anything there. After discovering "Reid" was used on me, Ive never had trust in any human.
You all have seemed to make up your mind that this person is innocent. Did it ever occur to you that he didn't know because he was playing dumb on purpose? Now I don't know so I won't judge, and neither do you.
Not only do the phone records give a nice timeline, but they can also tri-angulate your precise location by using signal strength from your three closest towers. This plots your point between them. His phone, among other key pieces of evidence at the scene, added to the never changing story, mixed with the NEVER STABLE testomony, and lastly, a dash of COMMON SENSE give only oneconclusion. Ryan, not only wasn't proven guilty, but Chuck enjoyed the willing suspension of disbelief afforded him!
Tone and overall behavior of the detective is that of an individual who knows that he is attempting to SELL a very improbable truth. As a detective, he would've been to seasoned to have been so generious with evidentual facts. Again, his tone is coaxing and leading, as though he were guiding a calf through an open field. Correcting every deviation, should he FORGET his way! It seems as if they both know the script, yet,the act is poor. He agrees with facts rather than confess them.
Ok, it's this simple. Don't talk to the police. Remember, everything you say can and will be used against you, but if you say anything that may help you, that won't be entered into court.
I am on the side of law enforcement, but sometimes you get overzealous officers. They don't just put anyone into custody, they usually have a valid reason.
THEY DO THIS EVERYWHERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG!!!!! I had a friend who was a victim of a crime and they accused him until he confessed to committing to the crime, He was sent to a mental hospital, and his ex gf now did not press charges, and nobody is willing to defend him. HE CAN"T SUE!!! THis is unconstitutional!!!
I was in a jury once where I voted guilty even though I knew he had to be innocent. The reason why is because he was an atheist and him being alive would bring loads of people to hell. He is executed now.
police and the DA just wants to nail someone so they can get a little horray for a job well done. they dont give a shit about any ones life. they just want a raise. these cops r coward one day someone will put thier family in jail for something they didnt do,karma bites
Most people are not told to have a lawyer present, this guy was probably called in and asked to sit down for some simple questions. it's a real easy trap cops use, and because he probably told him he's not under arrest, a lawyer probably would never have showed up.
You know what the sad part about this is... This can happen to you.
Is what people are seeing here is not an interrogation, but Coercion. This is a crime in itself. For every person that doesn't stand up and do something, then he is subject to this unjustice as well. Its much more serious than everyone can imagine.
Whatever the cirmcumstance don't talk! No matter what scare tactics they try to pull don't talk. Even if you speak to vindicate yourslef, they will twist it in thier favor, against you! They are the gestopa of the United States. No matter what the Government tell you, the police are not interested your well being.
Be sure to tell your kids (if god forbid they end up in a situation like this)...tell them that the very first thing they should say before the interview begins..."I want a lawyer" That legally obligates the cops to end the interview immediately. That gives them time to find out what their rights are, and to find out what it is the cops REALLY have in terms of "evidence".
I hate the cops Everything is suspicious. Everyone is guilty. They don't care about convicting the right person they just want to convict somebody. Police are brutal, abusive, savages.
NEVER and I mean NEVER talk to the police without an attorney
Watch these 2 videos on youtube. They are about 45 minutes long each and contain a wealth of info on protecting your rights against these abusive pigs
1) Busted the citizens guide to surviving police encounters
@fasteddie847 thanks goodness no one allows you to be part of protecting decent people from the predators. i'm sure in your silly, leftist, "good is bad and bad is good" worldview, predators read and respect all rights, including the GC, et al. Grow up you stupid, stinky hippie.
@NlkOlVy Unfortunately, that will not protect you. Ryan Ferguson (the guy this crackpot's testimony sent to jail) told the police "I didn't do it. I was not there." He NEVER changed his story. To this day, not one word is different. And yet he is sitting in jail based on this Chuck Erickson guy, who changed his story MULTIPLE TIMES. Ridiculous.
All I am saying is: I have the right to defend myself against anyone in this country. Nobody can simply come into your house and kill you or a family member for no reason. If I am guilty of a crime, and I decide to shoot at police, then that is different. I deserve whatever I get.
If cops were above the law, then why have they been put in prison for crimes in the past? A California Highway Patrolman was sent to prison for life because he raped, and killed an innocent woman. Do you think that the woman had a right to fight back? Of course she did! In fact, she did fight back! The cop had scratches and bruises on his face if i remember right. But the cop obviously had a gun so....
You cannot say that a cop can go around harming children, or even killing innocent people and we couldn't do anything about it. Most cops are not like that. Most of them deserve respect but if one bad cop decides he is going to take my life for no reason, I think I have every right to defend myself in that case.
@EikC Well, that simply isn't true. If what you said were true, then cops wouldn't need a warrant to do anything. They could break down your door and take whatever they wanted. Cops are NOT above the law. There is one group that has more authority than anyone else in this country. That would be a law abiding citizen. It's still, "We The People" Cops are not in charge of this country. We pay their salary.
I respect the law, but at the same time, if me, or a member of my family are innocent of any wrong doing, and the cops try to use deadly force against me, or them, then I think that the we become victims of a crime, therefore; we have the right to use deadly force as well.
@ActorinOlando Well, in my opinion, you would have evey right to do that. Just because someone wears a badge, doesn't mean that they are entitled to go around harming our children. Stun guns are meant to be used on adults. The high voltage is not meant for someone who weighs 90 lbs. It could kill them! So, yeah the parents would have every right to use deadly force against the police.
To me, this is a case of laziness. The cops did not want to deal with a dead end case. They would rather risk putting an innocent man in prison. That is quite sad. Granted, some cases are extremely difficult so solve, you could possibly destroy an innocent man's life, plus let the real criminal go free. These cops are irresponsible, and should lose their jobs.
I agree the police ie detectives specifically John Short are lazy and irresponsible but worse than that is for the prosecutor to come in and scare the accused into a plea against his friend out of fear of death. Once the plea in completed the prosecutor and detectives coach the witness for his up coming testimony. Once the cuffs go on the system picks up speed and all there their resources are turned on you as the prosecutors usually go on to higher office such as judge.
@Tigerpunch134 Why would cops go and risk their lives to go after a real, dangerous, murderous criminal when they could just get a coerced confession from some manipulable teenager? The latter leaves the public just as satisfied.
I know of a case were officers used a stun gun on a 10 year-old boy. There are cowards in Law Enforcement just like there are cowards everywhere else. It doesn't mean they are all cowards.
always insist that your lawyer be present when being questioned by the police. period. If you cant afford a lawyer and you are arrested the judge will appoint one
at your arraignment hearing. Until then, just don't say a damned thing!
Man, as soon as he said Im making it up from what I read in the news paper they should have kicked him out as a crack pot confessing to a crime he didnt commit.
Wait. this interrogation started at 930am, because the time on that video says 5pm or so, which means Chuck has been there for 8 hours. That's grueling.
just keep in mind......they will always tell you that you will talk to them if you have nothing to hide. Problem is that's BS. The fact that you're there is proof enough that they feel you are involved in a negative way. Therefore, the ONLY words that should come out of your mouth is "I want an attorney".
ive been interogated twice and these pigs will lie there asses off and its all legal never trust a pig its not what they know but what they can prove in court police are more concerned with a conviction than actually finding the actual suspect never trust a person with a badge never talk to them never take a polygraph test there not allowed in court as evidence anyways only as a tool to charge you with a crime your best tool is silence or lawyer up
You conveniently forgot to mention the prosecution. Cops investigate and lay charges. The proving it to a judge and jury is THEIR job. There had to be evidence of some sort.
Look up "Racial Profiling Columbia MO" and listen to the different videos of Columbia Police Chief Ken Burton stumble over his words, trying to answer questions about why his officers behave the way they do.
More than 80% of cops have no shame and poor morals on what they do. To an average person its wrong, but a pig like this truly believes he can do no wrong.
i was arrested for a crime i did not commit, for all the people that say dont talk, dont talk, this is very easy to say when you are not in the situation. When you are arrested and accused of something you didnt do, you feel the truth is what you know so why be afraid of talking to the investigators, after all, they want to find the true perp, right? Boy was i wrong, they bent everything that i said in a way to frame it to support their argument in court. I hope this detective got fired!
This Erickson guy after consulting his family and lawyer is now admitting he committed the murder.. So he was lying during this interrogation and the police were right not to believe him and keep contradicting him with the facts..
I'm sure the jury in the murder trial got too see the video of the questioning of both suspects .. So nothing is being kept from them and they can hear this guy say he is not sure and doesn't remember etc etc
What was the evidence against the guy found guilty.. Was he caught with murder weapon? Dead guys blood on his clothes? Confession?
@M4RKETEX No, the only evidence was this guy's "false memory" of committing a murder. Now he's in jail, and so is another boy who was with him that night. No other evidence, just some poor deluded young man who was implanted with false memories of a crime he didn't commit.
Fuck the police. Keep your mouth shut and answer nothing. Don't even give them your name. That's what an attorney is for. Don't believe those pigs when they say they are trying to help you. The only thing the cops want to help is the prision door slam shut on you
HATRED towards COPS is at an all time high. COPS love writing people TICKETS they cannot AFFORD!
COPS have an US AGAINST THEM attitude!
COPS LIE LIE LIE and did I mention they LIE! To them the PEN is more powerful than the truth. COPS use creative writing to change events to get convictions!
Hmm, arrest the guy and then threaten him with beheading if he does not make a confession to murder... Sounds like good enough reason to stomp that pig in the head when he gets all smug leaning back in the chair.
@sierraz36 First do you know what a travesty is??? because it makes no sense the way you are trying to use it. Second, he is a moron he has various rights that protect him it is his choice not to use them. Fifth amendment, right to an attorney....really what kind of an idiot goes and says that he might of been involved, wut do you want the police to do?? let him go.
HAHAHA yeah no shit. The thing that I found strange was that any public defender that has half a brain would have been able to get him off. He deserves an appeal.
Travesty: any grotesque or debased likeness or imitation: this is an imitation of justice.
Yes he has rights, but he probably doesn't comprehend them while the police are using psychological interrogation techniques on him. (they create an environment where the subject of the interrogation desperately wants to please the interrogators..)
Think false confessions don't happen? Ask Michael Crowe.
i was once arrested for shoplifting at a store i have never been to, in fact i was miles away walking home from the park, they just assumed it was me because i had the same shirt, and then they went on to tell me i was being charged for running and resisting arrest because i didn't stop right away as the cop turned on his sirens and blazed by me. 14 years old i got punished for a crime i didn't commit and nearly ruined my life. 2 made up felonies, $400 fine. I still respect police but come on :l
@NoOdL3z18 really you still respect police after that? my 15 year old brother was beaten so bad he cant see out of his right eye because he was "resisting arrest" who cares he is 15 years old! the cop didnt get shit my brother still got arrested and cops are all assholes.
I think dirty cops that try & manipulate results in their favor should be put in prison for this. For instance: putting the accused under alot of stress, through threats, sleep deprivation (waking them up early in the morning to interrogate) intentionally stressing out & working a person up, just prior to a polygraph test like they did to my dad, and telling him he was lying during the process.
The last time I got arrested I exorcised my right to kick the fuck out of the nasty nazi pig and because I was drunk at the time and on medication for my nerves their charges would'nt even hold up in court! haha slinky 1 the PoPo 0
Wanna know the easiest way to beat a bum-rap? Don't talk to pigs. They can make as many threats as they want, but they can't do shit without evidence unless you're stupid enough to confess. As exhibited here, this guy didn't do jack shit in connect to the aforementioned murder, but because he was weak and played into this pig's game he got sent to sing-sing. It doesn't matter how much they threaten you, how many times they hit you, or how long they hold you, be strong and JUST. DON'T. TALK.
@GroddGuerrilla - if the evidence against you is sufficient, it doesn't matter if your tongue was torn out by aliens, you'll still go down; apart from the perception you'll place in the minds of a judge or jury that by saying nothing, you've got something to hide.
Miranda rights...Kid should have asked for an attorney.

ChiGirl521 5 months ago

And when they ask the were were you bull shit say you dont remember cause you dont track what your doing every hour and second.
remsensor 7 months ago
Some people are just stupid. You have the RIGHT TO REMAIN SILENT and right to a lawyer. If cops have you locked up in a small room and they're intimidating you. Don't fall for the trap! The only thing that should be coming out of your mouth is "I want to speak to a lawyer". That's it!
Delta0prative 7 months ago
@Delta0prative Chuck was mentally unstable. He had a history of drug abuse in his early teens and was disturbed all around. In fact he was even taken to a psychologist (way before any of this) and it was confirmed as well, a fact that was not brought up in the original trial because it was all a setup. This is just the prosecutor and police force finding and exploiting a weakness like sociopaths do. To expect somebody emotionally/mentally to "stand up" to a domineering figure is just ignorant.

He agrees with facts rather than confess them.
bansheekbh 10 months ago
Ok, it's this simple. Don't talk to the police. Remember, everything you say can and will be used against you, but if you say anything that may help you, that won't be entered into court.
I am on the side of law enforcement, but sometimes you get overzealous officers. They don't just put anyone into custody, they usually have a valid reason.

Tigerpunch134 1 year ago
You cannot say that a cop can go around harming children, or even killing innocent people and we couldn't do anything about it. Most cops are not like that. Most of them deserve respect but if one bad cop decides he is going to take my life for no reason, I think I have every right to defend myself in that case.
Tigerpunch134 1 year ago
@EikC Well, that simply isn't true. If what you said were true, then cops wouldn't need a warrant to do anything. They could break down your door and take whatever they wanted. Cops are NOT above the law. There is one group that has more authority than anyone else in this country. That would be a law abiding citizen. It's still, "We The People" Cops are not in charge of this country. We pay their salary.

Tigerpunch134 1 year ago
@Tigerpunch134
Problem is, police are above the law, you're not.
EikC 1 year ago
@ActorinOlando Well, in my opinion, you would have evey right to do that. Just because someone wears a badge, doesn't mean that they are entitled to go around harming our children. Stun guns are meant to be used on adults. The high voltage is not meant for someone who weighs 90 lbs. It could kill them! So, yeah the parents would have every right to use deadly force against the police.
Tigerpunch134 1 year ago
To me, this is a case of laziness. The cops did not want to deal with a dead end case. They would rather risk putting an innocent man in prison. That is quite sad. Granted, some cases are extremely difficult so solve, you could possibly destroy an innocent man's life, plus let the real criminal go free. These cops are irresponsible, and should lose their jobs.
Tigerpunch134 1 year ago 25
@Tigerpunch134
