  • I LOVE THIS CAKE! BEAUTIFUL!

  • I would consider the option do the fondant by yourself. It'soooo easy and of course more genuine and there's no reason to buy wilton or decopac or any other brand if you can do this at home.

You just need 4 ingredients. Powdered sugar, water, some jelly and glucose.

  • I love this cake. You did a beautiful job with it. How did you get your black fondant so rich looking and is the entire bottom layer covered in black then the white keys added? I'm just beginning to work with fondant and I'm loving it. You do such beautiful work.

  • Hi Christina, this is stunning. Extremely clean work. I have never done a fondant cake but hope to try one soon. My nephew plays the piano, so I'm thinking of doing a single layer cake for his birthday. Do you fondant the cake black first and then just add on the white notes?

  • Thats rly cool :) I like the piano keys!! smart! cleaver! GEUNIS!

Also I am looking into making my 1st fondant cake. I was going to use Wilton but I read the comments posted saying that it doesn't taste very good. Do you have any tips for a beginner?

  • HELP!! Where can I get a good recipe for the buttercream?

  • any standard one will do for me.. the only thing that you have to remember is that when you add you liquid ingriedents, like water/milk, remember to add slowly, ad tat you dont have to add all of it until you have the right consistency!

  • you're from the GTA?where do you buy your fondant? Also,do you have any tips on writing out words?

  • i wouldnt be able to eat these cakes..lol...

  • I love this cake! It's beautiful!!!!

  • Oh Christina I love this cake! (I'm a music teacher and I also decorate cakes on the side so I got so excited when I saw this cake of yours!)

Can I ask did you colour your fondant black? Or do you guys get good black fondant over there? We can't get it down here (Australia) we have this horrible cake art stuff that rips as soon as you pick up up to cover the cake! Anyway, you did a beautiful job!

    Danielle x

  • can i ask how much do you charge for making a cake like this?

  • i love it.. very classy

  • The cake is stunning, and so appropriate for a pianist! I am sure your mom absolutely loved it!!!

Thanks so much for sharing it.

  • I love this cake:)

    Thank you:)

    BOP

  • Amazing cake, I love it!

  • how did you do this cake I would like to now

  • You can flavor your fondant because that is what I do. You will need to microwave it to make it pliable first and kneed your flavor of choice in it. You don't need a lot just 1/4 tsp and make sure your roll it thin. no more than 1/4 inch to cover the cake. I'd like to know if she bought her fondant black or colored it because it is hard as hell to get fondant that dark without using a lot of paste.

  • thats beautiful

  • excuse me, do you know where i can order or buy fondant? because its way too hard to make an awesome cake without fondant...but i dont know where to buy it.

  • Sorry, i forgot to mention. In regards to the satin ribbon, u just cut the cake aws normal and te satis ribbon will come off.....after the first cut, the caterers usually take the cake to the kitchen and they take it apart to cut it up serve it to the guests.

  • Yep, most people dont like the texture of any fondant but it is always used for cakes because u can,t get the same finish with buttercream.... All my cakes are filled and covered in buttercream first before i apply the fondant...now BUTTERCREAM is delishious!!! That's what people end up eating! The Fondant usually peels right off as u are eating the cake anyway....its more for decoration!

  • I don't consider fondant to taste better than buttercream, but when the buttercream is applied in a thick enough consistency, and when Satin Ice is used, I have never had any complaints. I have done many wedding cakes with this fondant. I love it! I also like the fact that I can get it in darker colors that don't have the bitter aftertaste.

  • Thanks for the info....I`m looking forward to working with Satin Ice. In Toronto Sating Ice goes for $90 for a 10K...it`s very price, but if its as good as u say, I`m willing to spend the extra money! I also use McCalls to cover all my cakes, it is very soft, but very tasty......Thanks again!

  • For beginner i would recommend the wilton to lear. Just put it in the microwave for 10 sec before kneading it.....nad buy the fondand book by wilton...it has all the steps.

  • Hi, I just want to say here, that I find it difficult to work with Wilton fondant because of it's texture. It is by far, the worst tasting fondant I have ever had, even when adding flavoring. I purchase Sating Ice, a very pliable and delicious fondant on it's own, from Decopac. It is $13.00 for 5 lbs vs. Wilton's 17.00. It is excellent to work with for a beginner, especially because of it's pliable nature. I even use it for figurines.

  • Hi there. I absolutely agree, I just remember that when I started decoration, Wilton was the only one I liked working with, all the other ones were too soft. I will be trying Satin Ice this week, the problem is that were I live, satis Ice is VERY EXPENCIVE....

  • Thanks so much for the tip, cjtay51 -- I am a beginner at fondant cakes and have a box of Wilton fondant waiting for my first experience ... but I definitely will look into the Satin Ice! :-)

  • I am currently using Mccalls Fondant...its very soft but very tasty for those that want to eat the fondant. Also, Millane fondant is quite aswell...

  • where do you get the Mccalls fondant?

  • Fondant is very funny that way...the tastier it is the more soft it is and u wont be able to get a smooth finish. I have, however learned to use the softer fondant since I last posted that...ALSO, most people dont like fondant AT ALL...they usually eat around it.

  • Thnk u.....my hubby was kind enough to cut them out by hand! I wish there was a cutter....lol

  • ok ITS OFFICIAL

    UR MI IDOL!!!!!! ♥

    I WANT TO MAKE THIS

FOR MY MOM TOO!!! SHE PLAYS THE PIANO :)

  • This is absolutely gorgeous. I don't know what musician (or pianist) wouldn't be overjoyed to receive a cake that looked as wonderful as this!

  • Hi, i was wondering how you rolled out your black fondant, did you use like powdered sugar. If so how did you get it from changing the color or how did you get it off?

  • HI there....yes, i always used cornstarch, but u just have to try not to get it on the top of the fondant....but if u do, just take a papertowel with some crisco and wipe it down...it will clean it very nicely...

  • Thanks!

  • i love it:)) brava! can i ask you what coloring do u used to the black keys??

  • Hi, its actually black fondant. I'm pretty lucky that my local supplier carries it!

  • :O Awesome!

  • you have a very beautiful cake...I was looking for a piano cake...and i found you...i will try to make one tonight. and hopefully i could make as nice as yours..

  • Thank u and good luck...make sure u post your cake..../i'd love to see it!!!

  • Hi there, thank u so much....!!! I have absolutely no training.....!!!! I watched alot of YOUTUBE videos before I attempted my first cake. I went to Michaels and bought all the supplies.....and waited about a month before attempting my first one......WATCH alot of youtube videos, and u'll do just great.

  • what is your best recipe for fondant?

  • Hi there, unfortunately, I dont have a fondant recepi. I buy it already made. I just color it what ever color I need. Fondant is a really tricky thing to work with, so I leave it up to the profesionals to make it!!!.. My favority to use is by WILTON...the only thing is that it doesnt taste very good.....hope this helps!

  • wow!...hope someone surprise me with a cake like this, coz i'm a pianist...Great Job Cris!

  • Thank u so much!!!!! IT was very special for her....my first cake that I made for her!

  • I just want to say, that you are so creativ and funny with your ideas! And, just one thing more, haha, that cake was amazing! Hope your mum, will get happy! And I think so to! Have a nice day!
