  • The last scene seems like it was filmed without the studio audience present. There's no reaction.

  • Ohhh... the way NIles is dressed here is so perfect for the scene. He looks like he's been through hell, yet manages to be stylish and quirky at the same time.

  • I really wasn't too partial to Donny...but that was one of the best proposals ever. The whole star thing got to me. That was just wow....Poor Niles though.

  • Breaks my heart every time. Oh, Niles.

  • 8:00 niles realizes that his own words drove daphne to donny, what a horrible feeling...

  • Niles shows up: Its like... like my bowtie?

  • FORESHADOWING!!!! :-O

  • the ending is the best part, with niles and the dragon. Oh, i wish Daphne could see that it was Niles

  • Excellent episode. Thanks!

  • That lawyer guy seems a good guy.

  • you like that feeling, huh!?

  • I remember when I saw this episode for the first time, and when Niles pulled out the dragon, my heart skipped a beat and I got so excited and sad at the same time xD

  • i feel bad for niles but he did have a chance to say something to Daphne but never did!

  • Foreshadowing how aggressive Daphne really is in later episodes.

  • These moments make me think about other directions the story could have taken. What would have happened had Daphne declined Donny's proposal in the end?

  • IT'S A DRAGON !

  • Best final scene!

  • that was so romantic, I would have said yes!!!!!!!!!

  • @ptyangel Me, too- if I were a woman, that is.

  • Good writeing as well

  • god I bawled watching this, this same thing happened to me not to long ago. I'll never forgive myself.

  • Any woman would say yes to Donny's proposal, i know i would! It was sooo beautiful!

But... i cant even imagine Nile's pain... his worst hour I'm sure...

  • Donny's proposal was romantic.. but I prefer Niles's proposal. Not just because I LOVE Niles :)

  • I felt my heart break.

  • Poor Niles. I feel so bad for him. : (

  • I can't watch this anymore.......Niles suffering? I'm skipping to "Something Borrowed, Someone Blue" and unclenching my fists a bit.

  • @twiwonder know what you mean, loved a girl since 1992 and it is still hurting.

  • @crusader037972 i'm sorry. :( things like that can really last through the years, esp. when you don't want them to

  • No matter how many times I watch this, my heart clenches everytime i see Niles' facial expression. Every one of the actors on this show were amazing. Such a superb cast.

  • :O I was not expecting that ending...

  • I knew the second Daphne said there was a man standing with a dragon that the next scene was going to have something to do with Niles and a dragon.

  • What season is this?

  • @stevesluvbug

    The sixth one

  • David Hyde Pierce, Jane Leeves, John Mahoney, Kelsey Grammar... 4 phenomenal actors that made this episode so emotional...

What makes it even more emotional is that if you've seen the later episode you know whats coming....

  • aw, it was a really sweet proposal... even if I do really dislike Donny!

  • When Frasier says that his brother's attitude doesn't make him a friend to Daphne, well that just about sealed it ,because it is soo true. No matter what - Niles was wrong in doing what he did

  • Grabs you by the heart when you see Niles with the dragon. Especially if this is the first time you are seeing this episode.

  • *Both of Daphne's visions came true after all...

  • Daphne's vision really did come true after all... Not quite so literally but it did. I love Niles and Daph together.

  • ok I'm not a fan of Daphne/Donnie because she belongs with Niles but that proposal was AMAZING! :) also Martin is such a sweet dad! "I'd do anything to fix this for you"

  • Niles was vey brave to go back to Daphne and say what he did... especially his, "I can't tell you whether or not Donnie is the right person for you"... That is the mark of someone who truly loves someone else: someone who still advises them, though they know they could lose them depending on the advice they give. I don't think I'd be able to do that...

  • thank-you! thank-you! thank-you! this is my fav show of all time....and Niles and Daphne are the best couple ever too oh, and Donnie or Niles? not even a moments hesitation....NILES!!! Donnie is short, overweight and not very attractive(to me anyways) so glad they ended up together...

  • thank-you! thank-you! thank-you! this is my fav show of all time....and Niles and Daphne are the best couple ever too

  • Ok. It seemed that the diamond ring changed her mind. Hmmmm.

  • @jasonito23 DE BEERS DID WTC

  • lol some one made a spoof of what niles is wearing, him having a shirt on saying "I *heart* SEAOMF" SEAOMF stands for "Scrambled eggs all over my face"

  • i get so emotional over this episode...

niles is such an amazing character, and the feelings...

this is my favorite show of all time. it can't be beat.

    i love this.

thank you so much for posting this episode. <3

  • Ollie thanks again for the upload, you just rock girl!!

As for the actors, they did a brilliant job in this ep. David has really incorporated the Niles character in him. It can be seen pretty clearly here.

A gut wrenching ep,but the dragon...gives us hope

  • Oh, God. It's been more than ten years, and my heart still breaks for him every single time I see this.

  • Oh my god, In this Video, David shows one of the best acting performance I've ever seen.

  • Niles shows his true brave nature here, when he talks to Daphne in the kitchen before Donnie arrives. It takes a lot of courage to do something like that, especially when you know it will crush you later. I know it's just a sitcom, but it's based off of real-life scenarios... Niles is a true man for doing what he is doing here.

  • Saddest episode ever!

  • love DHP and DaPHne!!!!

  • @nabz47 Haha, well done with the letters! :)

  • what donnie said made me cry! but poor niles :(

  • i love that smile of niles it is so hilarous

  • I love all the casts in this show. I like to replay some of the scenes multiple times, each time focusing on one of the characters and I must say, they really brought the characters alive. Like Frasier and Martin being surprised by Niles and Daphne coming out of the kitchen and Martin talking in a deeper voice sounding like he was about to tear a little talking to Niles in the kitchen. I am definitely buying the DVD for this show once I graduate and get a job lol.

  • @flybyth Good analyses! :) And focusing on one character at a time is a really good idea. I often find that I have to replay a few seconds of some scenes because I was focusing too much on one character and not enough on another... So your idea makes sense.

  • Donny's not ugly. I'd go for either guy, really.

  • The scene in the kitchen is so well acted. Very subtle and bitter-sweet. David Hyde Pierce and John Mahoony are such underappreciated actors.

  • @BeierFilms You're right, they're very underappreciated... And then you get people who can't act as well - like Kristen Stewart - who get all the awards (and before I get attacked by Twilight fans, I am a big Twilight fan myself - I've reread New Moon, Eclipse, and now Breaking Dawn, and I do love the movies. I just think Kristen Stewart does not match the Bella in my head. So please don't ridicule me for having my own opinion.). Anyways, they should be more appreciated for the work they do.

  • oh gosh. this is the first episode that made me cry. I love Niles and Daphne and they MUST end up together, but Donny really is a very sweet man. His proposal is what started the tears and then seeing Niles' face just made it that much worse.

  • yeah i liked how they made donnie an ugly guy. made it seem more real

  • I just want to hug Niles...it's so sad

  • The scene between Niles and Martin is so touching...

  • Poor Niles...

  • what with the nude people on the fridge lol

  • the acting in these 10 minutes is fantastic, from every cast member

  • "Maybe I'll just have a little bit of this Sherry." lol! (or however you spell that wine)

  • Niles is awesome. I'm so glad that he and Daphne eventually find happiness together.

  • I couldn't agree more. :) I love them as a couple.

  • "The only man good enough for you would scoop the stars out of the sky with his hat and lay them at your feet... Well, I've only caught this one so far, but if you'll accept it, I'll spend my life chasing down the rest of them for you."

Oh my gosh, Donny... his proposal was so lovely... :(

  • Think it through before you write...Remember when Martin was talking to Ronnie, Niles and Frasier were in the room. .. They were speaking about when their father took them to go camping EVERY SUMMER. In my opinion both Niles and Frasier were too different for Martin, thus the boys kinda distanced themselves from him. Preferring their sphychologist mother.

  • I have my own lil' "Eddie", not the same bread, but still you know what I mean...

  • really good acting here in the proposal speech considering the constraints of TV production. Donny and Daphne held it well together .

  • maybe the dragon is a symbolism of mel in future episodes? O_O

  • Why would he do that?

  • They never explicitly make Donny a Jewish character, but it is pretty obvious that was the inspiration. He is a friendly but intelligent lawyer with a knack for situational chutzpah. He was an overprotective mother ("Legal Tender Love and Care"), and the actor who plays him exhibits several stereotypical Ashkenazi physical traits.

I was just joking that assuming Donny is supposed to be Jewish, his engagement to Daphne is reason for Niles to turn anti-semitic.

  • True lol. Good GOD could you imagine losing the girl of your dreams to a 5'3" hebe lawyer scumbag? Sheesh it's nauseating.

  • @Alfrunk yea for real. Donny seriously landed that proposal though give him that.

  • Brilliant. Thank you for posting.

  • she's so skinny! i especially noticed in the previous scene when she was standing in niles' office.

eddie is so fun and goofy

  • yeah me too she has no shape at all o.o

  • martin is the greatest father ever. when he says "i'd do anything to fix this for you,"... that is so beautiful.

  • "Pushing his interests of Archie comics"? I noticed the scene you're referring to, but I interpreted in a very different way. In fact, I quite related to it, as my parents try to do a lot of "nice" things for me that are completely off-base with my interests.

...All parents do. The scene with the Archie comics merely endeared Martin to me even further. It shows he still sees Niles as his little boy, regardless of the years.

  • You have to remember that his sons were rather poor sons before they became adults as well so it was more of them playing off of each others' bad traits and then making up for it after all three matured.

  • He certainly is..I wish my father were this way..well given that he left me right after my birth I'd probably trade himfor anyone though...

  • @jdndhp I got a little tear in my eye when he said that. Martin's awesome.

  • @jdndhp Agreed.

  • I have never seen Frasier that angry. Now the question is was he more angry at Niles on a professional level for misleading Daphne, or on a personal level for trying to manipulate Daphne? Either way, it shows a side to his character rarely seen where he plays the roll of big brother to Niles that isn't immature, but rather like the secondary father that big brothers tend to be.

  • Big brothers don't tend to be secondary fathers. Not in my experience.

  • I thought that Frasier thought Niles had finally crossed the line with his behavior toward Daphne.

If you'll notice, he was always "checking" Niles when Niles would do things like try to follow Daphne into her room or act all love-lorn, etc.

This time, the only difference is, Niles had, in Frasier's mind, finally crossed the line into impropriety. Added on top of that was his transgression of their professional ethics. So I think it was a bit of both.

  • Donny: It's one of the last places where you can feel completely alone

Martin: (uncomfortable smile) You like that feeling, huh?

  • Niles says an interesting question: why Daphne is gone just to him?

I think that in her subconscious she already loves Niles.

The final scene with the dragon is one of my favourite, a brilliant and romantic intuition ;)

  • donny is really nice but niles is awesome....its ashame wat happends..

  • donny's proposal was so sweet!

  • that Donny guy is actually really nice. it's a shame what happens to him.

  • this is 1 incredible episode

  • the best show bar none.full of brilliant moments like this, great acting,c omedy ,its got it all, i could re run the niles daphne stuff, the almost told her bits, all day! superb!

  • In this episode Niles shows a level of integrity that I think he has never done before.

  • the ending is so brill!

  • an excellent proposal...in a heart-breaking episode

tarnished only by the fact that i already know how things will turn out

  • That hurt me to watch that to happen to Niles. Martin was very tactful to his son and it must have hurt him to ...I don't know anymore. If I were Niles and my dad said that to me, I would be at the bottom of a bottle, never wanting to come out. I'd be resentful but Niles, for lack of physical strength which brings out his comical side, his ethics, morals, his principles are so strong that it sets apart from other people.

  • omgosh i think that is the most romantic purposal i have ever heard

  • In character wise, David is brilliant of bringing out the character of Niles. The slightest twitch and everything. Very inspiring. The same goes to all the cast and also the guest star, Saul as Donny.

  • I love this episode! Oh, Niles and Daphne are the best!

  • Love it. Might be my fave episode considering it got so exciting from now until the end of season 7. :) I want to believe in FATE tooo!!!

  • wow that was a great proposal!

  • i cant believe that Martin took a drink of sherry...hilarious episode

  • I remember absolutely loving the ending to this episode - and it didn't disappoint again! Love it.

  • this was such a heartbreaking, but loveable episode; the niles/daphne centered episodes alway are. (up until they finally get together!)

and i couldn't help but scream into my pillow when i saw niles with the dragon! daphne really is psychic!

  • Aww, that proposal speech has got to be the sweetest, yet cheesiest proposal speech ever!

  • Niles was better though. His was VERY sweet, but simple.

  • though, i still wonder what it would have been like had it gone as planned. what with the choir and trumpets and all.

  • ha! Me too!

  • Season 6 is awesome. No wonder 'Frasier' won 37 Emmy's over the years. Beautifully written episode. Daphne so torn and confused, Niles with his

heart breaking.... this is DHP at his absolute best. A++++++

  • I just cried.

    I never cry.

    So touching.

  • it's amazing how poignant Nile's and Daphne's relationship is portrayed in a sitcom lol

    it's actually touching

  • Martin was fantastic in this episode. Donny's proposal was the best I've ever seen, also. I love this episode.

  • *SPOILER ALERT* Consider this:

Could the red bow tie possibly symbolise Niles "tying the knot" in the future, red indicating a threatened marriage? Is the dragon in Daphne's vision really Mel? (If so, would that not make the last scene (Roz's gift) superfluous?)

    Just a thought. :)

  • Wow, an analysis worthy of Freud!

  • Never thought of it like that. Could be.

  • Niles' is finding the dragon is a wonderful sign of hope, that all is not lost.

  • Oh my god Niles stood there in the red bow tie is the funniest thing EVER!

  • the dragon part is the best... amazing writing.

  • yeah, i like that they set it up just at the end...i'd forgotten that roz had sent him a gift, as he doesn't open it immediately upon receiving it.

  • the scene with niles and martin is sweet.

this episode makes me sad though.

  • Donnie's proposal was actually very sweet. I like it that they made him a likable character, even though he's Niles's main rival over Daphne's love. It would have been easier but much less interesting if they'd made Donnie a complete jerk. That way Niles and Daphne getting together never seemed too obvious.

  • yeah, donny has a lot of good scenes in the show. i was sad to see him go, even though it was a necessary plot device.

  • I agree, I mean Daphne wouldn't date a jerk either. Oh Niles. This made me so sad. :(

  • How does Niles do it? I'd have burst a blood vessel!

  • Niles is so skinny! His longer hair was also better. But I love him, he´s the backbone of this series!

  • I know, DHP is so hot. I love skinny guys, and the longer the hair, the better.

  • Yes, DHP is the best!! And hot too, in a cute and sophisticated way!! He is the best! :)

  • David Hyde Pierce is amazing.

  • Those silky pajamas of Niles'...good heavens. I want to both wear them and rub them.

  • omg the dragon

  • Donnie is such a sweetheart!

  • I love Daphne`s bathrobe at the end!

  • Brilliantly written episode I mst say.

  • i added a comment because i liked the episode

  • How hard for Niles to have to watch the woman he loved from afar get engaged to another man. He should of told her he loved her in the kitchen. This episode proves that she was psychic. Thanks for the vid!

  • that was awful to watch :(

    poor niles

  • oh man donny's proposal was AMAZING!!!

  • Best show EVER..

  • the end was so sad, niles is meant for her!

  • I've been wanting to see this episode for so long. Thanks for posting this, Ollie :)

  • martin is funny. "I have to plan my weekend!"

  • The part when Donny is proposing to Daphne always makes me cry. I cannot stand to look at Niles. His expression is just too heartbreaking. :[

  • As much as I dont like Donnie, I must say- that proposal was quite breathtaking. Very moving.

  • agreed, it was lovely

  • It was such a romantic proposal...But oh god, I feel awful for Niles.

  • @Cypresswhisker2 I think it was pretty shitty was Niles did. Just MAN UP and tell her.

  • @twiddlermd your point being?

  • @twiddlermd So what? That just goes to show what an amazing actor David Pierce is.

  • @Cypresswhisker2 I agree. I only hope that my proposal to my future fiancée will bear even a striking resemblance to Donny's proposal to Daphne.

  • @Cypresswhisker2 Me, too!

  • he is not.

  • Even tho Niles truly loved Daphne, he was wrong for not being honest with her about his attitudes towards ESP and his true intentions for Daphne. It would be different if Daphne actually reciprocated Niles' feelings...but because she only saw him as a friend, Niles had no right to sway her into believing he was the right man for her. That's something only Daphne could know for herself once Niles HONESTLY admitted his feelings.

  • wow...that's really deep. very true 2!

i love this show! Niles loves Daphne so much and she barely even sees him.

  • Yeah and he realizes that and makes up for it by swaying her to go to Donnie as hard as it is for him to do and in the end he still does the right thing.

  • Whatever Niles' motivation, he was right to encourage Daphne to go with her gut instincts and do what was right for her.

  • Great ending!
