  • Eric throwing in a bit of La Marseillaise for his French girlfriend, Charlotte Martin, was a nice touch. Too bad she went on to marry his friend, Jimmy Page. Tchaikovsky's 1812 overture borrowed the much older Marseillaise melody btw, not the other way around.

  • Girls take note: Clapton's packin'.

  • which one of the 2 on the right is Clapton?

  • can anyone name anymore exmaples of Cream using samples of other songs in what they are playing? Other than the use of 1812 in this and Blue Moon used in the beginning of Sunshine Of Your Love solo?

  • Greatest ever rock band - its hard for youngsters to put this fact into perspective but for its time ........this was jaw dropping stuff!

Cream shaped modern music in so many ways.

  • @alembicbassguy Reserving comment on the sweeping claim of the first point, the rest of this comment is flat out true. The references to the 'youngsters' and to 'jaw dropping' are a remarkably efficient way to express a large and fundamental truth. If you weren't there, you don't know.

  • I'm so glad that I was exposed to this music as a kid It shaped who I am Shit I might be listening

to lady Goo Goo Or these other plastic people!!

  • yet again, many unanswered questions .....i somewhere heard that Nehemiah James did not like Creams borrowing of his composition. i am curious how did Nehemiah James really feel?

  • @bonerdownmam

I don't know, but Skip James was credited properly by Cream on the album. They did not take credit for the composition, like some other English (and other) bands of the time did.

  • I always wondered what "I'm So Glad" meant; it was written by bluesman Skip James in 1930. One day it finally hit me: it's about the slaves being freed! it all makes sense: "Tired of weeping, tired of moaning, tired of groaning for you;" and "Don't know what to do" refers to the confusion of suddenly being a free man after years of depending on the white master for lodging, food, etc. It must have been real scary, in a way, to be suddenly free, especially back then. Starting completely over....

  • Skip James is glad because he found God. I don't bother with God myself but I note that Mr James became a preacher very soon after coming into the public spot light for his music. Why did God make him feel 'Glad'? The usual old torments of vanity and ego which lead people to be tormented by meaningless violence, sex and materialism. The religion released him.

  • Ginger Baker stepped on my foot walkin to his drums....true story....so glad:)

  • I love how he gets the 1812 right in the middle of the song :D great

  • nice cucumber EC

  • This version is waaayy better than the one on their reunion album!

  • @lonelyboylv

right. best version of I'm so glad ever. Notice the crazy driving bass.

  • I remember when I first heard this song, I thought: "How much more positive can a song be--I'm so Glad, and the best part is, it's almost the only words in the entire song!"

Still puts me in a good mood every time I hear it, like no other "so-called" happy song in existence!

  • To find CREAM here on youtube makes me glad.

    So now im glad :)

  • I'm glad he's glad

  • That's Clapton... and yeah, it caught my eye! It's making his pant cuffs ride up his legs.

  • lol why did this comment get downrated?

  • dont downrate it the truth

  • guy on the right learn the fucking names

  • This generation was blessed with the biggest balls of all of them. Do you think Enimem got balls? No Sir, its more like M&M's for me. (Or Smarties if you like)

  • why did people down rate this its so true his cock is huge

  • Eric's cock's not that fucking big. That's his week's wages stuff down the front of his trousers.

  • Cream is the best band in the WORLD

    Rock on Cream you RULE

  • Eric, wow! You sexy man you.

  • skip james wrote this song

  • ok let me alter my comment.

im so glad. im glad. im glad. im glad, that cream coverd this song.

  • im so glad. im glad. im glad. im glad, that cream wrote this song!

  • I don't think they wrote this.

  • I haven't heard the original song, but i seriously doubt it sounds like this

  • They didn't; it was written by Skip James. As a sidenote, they made certain he got paid royalties for it.

  • cooooooooooooooooool

    Thanks for this song

  • coooooooooooooooool

    Thanks for song

  • you seem very angry. ^_^

  • why did i get negative comments, i was talking to giltapj

  • JACK BRUCE and Cream make me sooooooo glad :)

  • This song makes me feel so glad, so glad, so glad....

Feels like I am 16 again..

  • seamless, smooth, wonderful ensemble playing-jack as vocalist had few peers. a musician's musician-still!

  • oooooooooohohh this is fantastic!!! I wish I was 24 in 1967

  • @dushko24 Like going to the moon; what the fuck else compares to it?

  • i'm glad i'm glad i'm glad!!!!

  • Check out Eric with his highwaters and socks.

  • great song nice job but pck a different pic for the vid next time lol

  • What is the tune that EC is playing at 2:02? Oh yeah, I believe that EC stuffs his pants in the pic above.

  • As emeraldaxe below said - it's an extract from the 1812 overture. They were always putting bits of other tunes into their music just for giggles - check out Clapton playing part of 'Blue Moon' in the Sunshine of Your Love solo!

    I think you're right - I'm sure that's a pair of socks stuffed down Clapton's trousers!

  • Fuzzface100,

Do you have a hyperlink to this song? I'd like to hear this. I am aware that Hendrix used bits of other's solos in his improvisations (check out live Sunshine of Your Love by Hendrix. He puts in "Outside Woman").

Where can I buy a sock like that? Was it gargoyle, cotton, crew, or tube?

  • yeh it loks a lil lopsided lol

  • in Cream vernacular they always called it "the Marseilles" quote. EC did it as a loving nod to Charlotte Martin apparently.

you should her him do it on the (greatest show ever) Grande Ballroom version...they we're blowing so hard when he pulled it off...Jack absolutely was slaying those strings on his Gibson bass... knocking out fat fat chords. a really emotional statement to hear it.

  • Is there some classical music in this somewhere?! This is spectacular!

  • Yeah its the 1812 overture. I'm so glad everyone likes the BBC Sessions!

  • thats actually pretty cool

  • This is the definitive version of a great Cream Classic. Cream were and remain to this day unbeatable raw talent. Hendrix had it with Electric church, but for sheer unstoppable blues power, I'm so glad has it by the spoonful!

  • Gran gruppo!

  • lol i have a version of this but erics guitar goes out of tune

  • Nice Vid, Classic band

  • GIANT TANUKI!
