  • A bit of history if anyone’s interested – the “FeeJee Mermaid” was a standard exhibit at sideshows/freakshows in the 19th century. Usually they were created by sewing the (preserved) rear half of a fish to the front half of a monkey (or to a papier mache recreation). Our local historical society has a lovely example on display. And I just read a story which revolved around “pickled punks” at a sideshow, so I’d bet most of the oddities he names have historical roots. What a great song!
