Hi there, the video looks a little fake to me but, if the author says ist's real, who am I to desagree?
I love gyros, shame they are so expensive. I have a trike (much cheaper) and fun at the same, the only problem is that I can not fly in windy conditions (gyros fight for windy days) but, that's life I supose, one day maybe I'll have one aswell...
Well ok .. that's a great piece of camera equipment with optical stabilisation maybe it is that which gives the surreal quality to the images. Plus of course the excellent Chase+camera+gyroplane choreography.
Aerial photography is what I do, so I try to do it well.... Jim is a great gyro pilot and Randy is a great helicopter pilot so it all worked like a well oiled machine...
At around 3.23 I would expect to see some of the shadow of the chase helicopter on the tarmac if this is live action. Also the Gyrocopter generally has sharper definition than the near background (i.e. the grass) in the shots on the ground.
I think this is very funny.. I guess the quality of YouTube makes it hard to tell. This footage was all SHOT LIVE with my Sony FX1 HDV camera and I was in an R44 Astro Helicopter shooting it... During the landing we were far enough away, with a long lens to intentionally AVOID seeing our own shadow.
I'm a pilot a (mediocre) 3D artist. This is definitely NOT CGI. It's great camera work from a helicopter filming a gyrocopter (aka gyroplane). A gyroplane is similar to a helicopter but cannot hover. However it's much simpler and much less expensive.
I've got a question about its tail. It seems that you have to be a truly professional during take off and landing especially in order not to brake it. It is located not far from the ground while on the runway and even the pilot in the clip was close to scratching the runway with the tail of the copter while landing.
I can imagine if it brakes while taking off - that would be a hard task to come back alive.
That looks like Scappoose. I did touch and goes there when I was training for my private. Any Idea on what the base cost is going to be? I soooo want one!
I wish I was that good at cgi. It's very real. Look at some of the other videos on my page and you'll see people interacting with it. I shot this video from my friends helicopter.
Why did you change the music??!! I loved the old guitar-driven theme. At least tell us who it was by and the title!

Outstanding photo shoot!
Some people don't understand how to do a proper video shot.
The camera is one of the best on the market at $4000.00+.
Due to FAA rules you had to keep at a distance. Watch the sun and season. It's around noon time and summer, shadow was almost dead overhead & center.
Nice Gyrocopter as well, just a little over priced for todays market.
Well done!

Fantastically produced video! I've watched it a dozen times. And as a rotorcraft nut, this looks like a heavenly machine to fly. Bravo!

Nice machine, I'd just love one of those, how much are they? Do you need a Pilot's Licence? Flight clearance?

Wow, that is a beautiful machine. Oh if only I had a tonne of money to just spend on whatever I wanted!

Great work. Only a Gyro could get shots like this. Unless it *is* CGI.

or, duh, a helicopter, der.

hey Shawn: the shorter vertical tail is to avoid blade strikes? VERY nice looking ship.
TheRooster602 3 years ago
According to Vanek, the new tail design is just better aerodynamically...

thanks Shawn. Better aerodynamically? How so?

So, this looks like CG to me. Plus you never see anyone get in or out of the cockpit.
