This movie was edited I guess,to give some importancey to Sanju baba's role Rahul Roy's role become like a guest appearance,other than that, it was totally Sridevi's movie,Sanju was the heroine..lol

I agree with award winning part but the film was a critical success rather than a commercial success just like Mrityudand, Anjaam and Sadma. But nonetheless this performance of sridevi's will always be remembered by her fans as well as her well wishers.
Yes,Gumrah recover its cost and it was a moderate success movie ,but not a flop not a big hit,producer,distributer were not unhappy and critics were very happy.

Rekha's agony in Lajja brings tears to my eyes. And Madhuri, when molested by the public and when she loses her baby and tell Manisha screaming screaming "Mera Bacha Gaya Re Vaidehi" feels like a thousand jagged stones are thrown at me. You really feel it. The day you understand cinema other is when pigs would start to fly.

Thanks very much. Its your opinion about sridevi. And I have utmost respect for it since I too am fond of sridevi. Lets face it these two actreeses are the last legends of Bollywood. Nobody can replace them. They were and are a complete monopoly. Nice to see a refreshing conversation for a change. I was getting tired of swearing at chof and halimili (which they deserve).

Nonetheless a flawless performance from an accomplished performer. Only sridevi could have done justice to this role and character other than Madhuri, Rekha, Tabu and Rani Mukherjee.
Hali, i think Sabs wouldn't of enjoyed as much since Rekha wouldn't of done belly dance for him to get too excited. Hali you forgot to add umrao jaan, the lady is a legend, and Mads is far behind Rekha interms of vairety of roles she has played.

Its sad you criticise legendary Rekha, she would of been flawless in these type of role, she excels in many roles, have you seen her villanous gnagster role in Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi??? The lady excelled in many versatile roles, be it in a gangster role, or intense hardcore female orientated roles.

Both Gumraah and Anjaam. Madhuri in Anjaam gives a performance that will stay with her million fand worldwide forever. Sridevi in Gumraah gives expressions of agony that are simply falwless. Anjaam ofcourse was offered to Rekha first but thank God she turned it down. Madhuri got excellent critical acclaim.
Rekha has always been the perfect choice for such roles. she is excellent. She is nothing less than excellent. Be it Ghar, khoobsurat, khoon bhari maang, Aurat Aurat Aurat the list is really endless. Love Rekha
Anjaam was ok, I think this is the only time I liked SRK, he acted well, Madhuri acted to fast, which you shouldn't do, you vareity and expressions and emotion should built slowly, thats why sri gets into the character because she doesn't do fast movements. BOI says the film did below average, this is not true, the film performed moderately as i have read on of the 1993 trade magazines, had sridevi charged less for the film, it would be a hit than just moderate success.
For me SRK's role was not new as he did similar job in Darr. The movie I liked SRK in was Veer Zaara. I think he did a good job as the old mature man. I didnt like Anjaam and thoguht it could be better, specially the end was damn cheezy. Madhuri again has played herself like in most her movies. Sridevi's Roshni is something she never played. She played a fragile character before in Aulad but that was completely different
Madhuri tried to imitate her in anjaam, some of portrayal as the scared victim was average, madhuri goes too fast, here sridevi does it confidently with ease, building her character slowly.
Yeah Chof, This movie was produced by Yash Johar. He saw the original movie Hilton Bangkok and both Yash and Mahesh Bhatt decided to remake the movie ONLY if Sridevi said yes. Sridevi accepted the offer and the movie was made. Anjaam actually was supposed to be made for Rekha, It is even Rekha who suggested the name of the movie Anjaam to Rahul Rawail after she read the script. I think Anjaam was a cheezy movie, dont know how it would have been if Rekha has done it
