  • still have stock injectors? or aftermarket? or did you drill out the stock injector nozzles? i have an '01 7.3 with 4" downpipe to 5" straight pipe with an AFE intake and an EDGE CTS tuner and it hardly even smokes on the extreme tune.

  • @stuntrider15 This truck is running an EDGE Attitude programmer. Wonder if the intake on your truck allows that much more air, or if the tunes in the programmers are that different. This thing will smoke out an entire Wal Mart parking lot on demand.

  • Nice rig man. Are you running an MBRP 5" from Turbo Back? And is that, coupled with the Edge Programmer, the only modifications you've done to an otherwise stock 7.3?

  • @MK1UniversalGaming No, it was a shortbed so I just left the pipe long and left out the muffler when I welded it together.

I'm running a straight pipe on my 7.3. I picked up an S&B Intake as well as well as some gear from RiffRaff. Sweet truck man, love to see the 03's every so often ;)

  • I have a 99 7.3 6-speed. i have the same chip but 5 inch straight pipe into a 6 inche black stack. its lifted 8 inches with 39s. it also have oversized turbo. it roast them 39s ha

  • @motocross817 about $1000...but flip the extra money for the tranny controller too. The Ford 7.3's are notorious for blowing up transmissions once they are in the 100's of thousands of miles. The stock transmission is set up to slip so much between gears that the clutches slipping creates heat. Not only will you see the tranny temps lower, but you can expect to see several tens of thousands more miles. Good Luck!

  • drilling in the manifold was easy, then take a paperclip and wrap it round a maginet, and fish out the shavings, after the turbo has about a 300 degree difference, which could lead to bad things, before ya know. had the edge juice, but sold it and went with the dp-tuner, world of difference custume tunes are the way to go and you would love the 140 hp super smoke, plus does your trans shifts also

  • No Smoke switch...This truck came in bone stock. I removed the exhaust and replaced with MBRP, and added the Edge Juice Box...That's it. No smoke and mirrors, no B.S....Put the pedal to the floor and watch it pour

  • @rgiltz it has a stock intake on it. thats most of the reason!!!

  • you should get a aFe intake. then you'll hear that turbo whistle better. also look at the ATS ported tubo housing. it will help with the deadly compressor surge, and it sound sweet

  • Boy is that a poor tune for low boost levels (need a lower injector duty cycle) - until turbo spools to compensate with enough oxygen for correct air/fuel ratio that is. Sure does sound nice though.

  • @rammertide07 That requires drilling into the manifold and I wont drill and tap the hole when its on the truck...shavings in the turbo=really bad things. Simple solution is to weld a fitting in downtube close to turbo. The truck has no mods besides programmer and huge exhaust so high egt's aren't really an issue.

  • @pradaj929 yea but egts readings post turbo can be off as much from 50-500*F....depending on how much boost is being made. I have an 01 F350 7.3 with a 4" turbo back straight exhaust and a TS chip that doesn't even make any smoke at the 75 setting. and I can still hit 1400*F. My probe is in the manifold. At first I was very worried about drilling the manifold, but all is still good 6 months later. Ya'lls truck though....unless you keep the pedal to the floor for a while I wouldnt worry about it

  • id get that egt probe installed, becuase trust me those egts will get up there with that edge espessially when you are towing over the pass or when its on level 5

  • @pradaj929 That's why you grease the bit periodically while drilling and go slowly. I've done many of these this way. Also how many stories have you heard where someone actually damaged a turbo from this method? Upon startup, the initial flow of air/gases through the exhaust will push any shavings through before the turbocharger is able to spin fast enough to do any damage. You have several seconds before it reaches that speed on a cold engine.

  • @FordDiesel512 Edge attitude and Full exhaust-no trans controller on this truck. Our other diesel's have hypertech programmers with trans control, but they dont blow nearly as much black or make as much power. Edge recommends towing at max level 3 of 5...Hypertech can run the highest boost level and keep stock tow specs. The EGT temps seem to be a bit lower with the Hypertech too.

  • I gotts agree the off the shelf chips and tuners r ok but if u wanna unlock the true potetial of ur truck get custom tunes!

  • Black smoke = too rich A/F mixture.

    You don't benefit from running rich. You may even be killing your turbo from the higher EGTs.

  • watch your egt's cause the way it is now the reading is anywhere between 100 - 400 off. you only get a true reading before the turbo. by the time you let out at 1250 the pistons may have already reached 1400

  • You'll get better preformance from a 4" exhaust and look up Jobe preformance and get an intake system

  • get pull out meres and factory rims
