@Jcolinsol you are absolutely right.this is the very ignorance toward food/health (and just about everything else) that Jamie is trying to rid the US of. I just wish Canada wasn't so heavily influenced by US.. so many disgusting habits..political, social, cultural and so on...you wouldn't let schools or any other government institution make your kid do a line of blow each day and yet you allow the poisoning of their innocent bodies all the same...
this is such BS!!! these people are fucked up....some americans just refuse to believe the truth about their "precious" america...ur fat, ur government hates and lies to you and yes america has an obesity epidemic lol
This is absolutely sick, and propaganda at its finest ....... Misconstrued facts that are represented as truth through people who have no idea and are puppets for the food industry....... the guy eating a hamburger at the end looks half dead as does everyone else in this piece.... eating living foods gives a warm and healthy glow and is unmistakable. This is just sickening.
Moynihan, Hayes and Swain are the new 3 Stooges. Oliver is right on. All he has ever done is create great, healthy food. He doesn't ignore the gov'ts' role, he talks quite a bit about what public schools do and why he can't get in to speak w/ gov't officials. Private School, Home School or No School. Schools should never have been public and they never should have been distributing food. Moynihan has never been REASONABLE and should not be on Reason.TV. Cold blooded piece of garbage.
Giving kids microwaved food is douchey and ridiculous. Using an out of context clip of a guy crying to put him down? That's beyond douchey, I don't think you douchebags deserve the name "reason.tv" for this crap.
it's strange how in a supposed democracy like America parents are not given the opportunity to voice their concerns & opinions about whether or not they would like more money being spent of 'Public' school lunch programs providing healthier more nutritious foods to their children as in this instance it really is a matter for the government & if you don't like that libertarians you of course have the freedom to not follow along, but don't brainwash people into this ideology of less is more.
Ignorant bastards. Reason TV Michael wats his name should feed his 5year old a Big Mac meal for breakfast. Then top them up with pizza hutt for lunch and maybe KFC for dinner. Prick. Jamie is doing such a good job in making people aware, but its people like that Michael and that katherine who are ignorant and think its a ok. I feel sorry for your kids.
Wow how ignorance is being dressed up as reason. Schoollunches are a part of the problem and not the whole problem. Yes, but the same kind of apathy for real food is also being found in the homes of ordinairy household. People who give their childeren candy and potato chips to school as a schoollunch are in fact mistreating their childeren.
Does anyone responsible takes into consideration how much the health problems cost the society and the government instead of making a change and actually do something about it. Stupid and uneducated politicians only think for them selves and don't even consider that this young man maybe have a message.
I guess America is only about making money, no matter what. Being stupid seems to be the biggest value to become a politician!!
GO Jamie GO, You have a message and I wish I got your big balls!!
this guy is foolish for thinking Mcdonalds is good food (clearly In N Out is :P), dissing the very important food revolution and also very foolish for apparently smoking two packs a day... at least your voice sounds that way. I'm an atheist, I'm all about reason and logic, your organization doesn't have it.
that reason tv guy , what a prick. jamie rocks and we will suport him all the way. how dare you question him or anyone trying to change the way people think of food and what are being fed to the children.
Katherine Mangu-Ward (Reason Magazine) - No occupation attached at all and yet spoken like a true healthy food expert - what a load of rubbish "healthy microwave meal" (WTF?). Well, enjoy the burger and the stupidity of denial. Hell they hook 34 688 views... that's just unfair..

Starting off with referring to mcdonalds as delicious food and finish off with 'for the meantime, i'm going to have this delicious cheeseburger', makes me wonder whether the host has any genuine concerns or simply wishes to be, in a rather immature manner, contraversial and humorous. The fact of the matter is, We don't care for what he eats, but, instead, are concerned about the diets of children and how schools have indoctrinated them to eat crap.
Reason.TV You only mock because you don’t understand.
Go and do some research on the Raw Vegan Food Movement and you’ll so see that what Jamie is serving up is considered to be duff food. Although Jamie’s food is a massive step in the right direction and thus I support him 100%.
Start by watching the videos at w w w . I n s p i r e d B y D e m a n d . c o m
"Delicious food like this" Are you kidding me? McDonals makes me sick to my stomach. Literally. To hell with what's "tasty" I wan't what's good for me. Jamie's doing good work, but he's barely even scratching the surface of the kind of "food revolution" that I'D like to see in our country. I want GMO's eradicated, more nutritious produce being drawn, and no more ex food-industry executives sitting in the top seats of the FDA pretending to have our best interests at heart.
REASON.TV you should be ashamed. Are you getting a nice kickback from the government? You started the show by calling McDonalds delicious food. Stupid americans. Somone trying to help kids live longer and healthier and you guys try to find bad in that. SHAME SHAME SHAME!!!!
Isn't the Reason Foundation supposed to be a nonprofit organization? Because after seeing this bias little clip, I can't stop wondering on whose payroll you guys must be.
This is the first time I have seen Reason TV...and I am still trying to figure why you call it "Reason" TV since it looked more liked an ad for McDonalds...Thank God for people like Jamie who takes the time to care...
You have got to be kidding me. The only people in this video who are negative towards eating healthy are from reason tv! Which, to be frank is obviously just trying to get some ratings. Shoddy journalism and sensationalism at it's worst. For shame, makes me think that we need a journalism revolution. Bunch of hacks.
If you are calling McDonald's food "delicious", you need to get your head out of your ass. Sure it taste good, but for all the crap that goes in to a cheeseburger or quarter pounder with cheese, go get something that is better for you for the same price. And, since when does healthy food have to be strictly "organic"? Its called grow it yourself! Its companies like McDonald's that are killing the world, and they need to put the world before the dollar they are trying to make.
@bens2990 well said, I had a food poison episode with Mcdonalds. My gut just has never been the same, I feel like it hasn't fully recovered even when it's been 3 years.
@bens2990 McDonalds isn't even good. Thats why places like Five Guys are thriving despite the heavier price. Have people like this asshole never made homemade burgers? Theyre out of this world.
What a naive bunch of cunts. If kids get served Pizza for breakfest with sugar milk and nuggets with 3 sauces for lunch those children grow up in a enviroment that learns them to eat that food. Sure the parents play a great role in this but to say it isn't that big of a deal that the schools serve FUCKING PIZZA AND SUGAR WATER FOR BREAKFEST is just fucking unbelievable. Breakfest should be apple juice with bread and peanut butter. Children that young should have NO say in what to eat.
@philateliceun I mean fuck, you saw what was in those Nuggets? Fucking Coper sulfate and shit. I wouldn't even touch that. Children have not developed the ability to grasp concepts like eating something that will have negative results in 20 years. It is just impossible for them to grasp such an abstract conept. Hell, most adults can't even truly understand that something might not kill you now but will if you continue to do it for 20 years, just look at how much smokers there are.
@GlazirinAna Meh, being an avid watcher of Reason.tv I'm fairly certain that that is just a slip of phrase since no where in the video do they make a case against him based on being British. Because, well, that'd be beyond words stupid. Yup, food could be better, but there are probably better solutions that don't involve spending *more* money (Didn't Super Size Me show a private school spending less money per student on healthy food?)
This has got to be a joke. Nobody can be as stupid and short sighted as the people who made this appalling video. Go chug some corn syrup while I eat my kale chips. We will see who survives.
My goodness, it is a conspiracy. For goodness sake. Someone comes to America and wants us to be healthy and we trash him Something is really wrong in America.
You know, I can't help but feel that the kick backs in pharmaceutical companies when we get sick isn't more important to the government and officials.
The cheeseburger looked cold and ordinary, not delicious. Does he know how much fat and hormones is in that ALL AMERICAN BURGER. Out food is killing us and we need Jamie and others to help

One of the most ill-informed and ill-advised videos I have ever seen. Morgan spurlock makes a pretty decent argument against your "delicious burgers", so feel free to feed your children the same diet for 18 years if you think that's a good idea. Just dont assume every parent wants to do the same.....
FYI, never reference the dailymail (the UK equivalent of the national enquirer). It immediately destroys your journalistic credibility (Not that you had any to begin with)
Schools have no business feeding kids! It's the PARENTS responsibility to feed/teach/raise their children. Make a fucking sandwich, throw it in a bag with an apple and some carrot sticks and send them on their way. Schools are supposed to educate, not parent.
@RBNightlinger "Schools have no business feeding kids! It's the PARENTS responsibility to feed/teach/raise their children"
By that logic, schools also have no business in teaching kids.
"Schools are supposed to educate, not parent"
So, if a child can't tell the difference between a tomato, a potato, and a cauliflower; is that a problem with the parents, or the schools? Did you not notice that Jamie was complaining about brown bag lunches (from parents) composed entirely of crisps and candy?
Is this guy stupid, Jamie Oliver's whole campaign is just to ensure that kids eat healthily at school so they're guaranteed one healthy meal a day. His campaign is then to encourage parents not to give their children shite food at home. What exactly is wrong with what he's doing? Spend a bit more on keeping children healthy and you'll end up spending a lot less when they get sick from fat.
This guys is pathetic, keep eating your shit food mate, noone cares if you die
Another stupid American!! People like you dont want anyone to get better, healthy , happy !! Sadistic!! Can't do something concrete but want people to hear him..the only reason I watched this video is because of the name Jamie Oliver!! He is making efforts to save your people..If you can't appreciate, at least don't sling mud!
I don't see a case made against Jamie Oliver and find this movie lacking any information. This is sad, because I was used to quite a high standard by ReasonTV.
The video comes across more like a grumbling attention getter and less like making a real point.
Hey you stupid!! You forgot to say: this show was sponsored by: Mcdonalds. Shame on you guys! shcool is all about education !! Including the meal time. Stop making your kids the reason to get your food industry even richer! what a bad thing to do man! using the term "back home" is an atempt to call people's patrotic feelings and try to use it against somebody with good intentions like Jamie oliver and thousands of worldwide worried people. Take care of yourself and yours.
2:34 How are you going to improve the lives of children if they are obese. Even if their not obese, the food they are getting in the schools is disgusting. These people who are defending this food are complete assholes.
The problem isn't what we feed our kids at school it what they eat for dinner... The dinner they eat at school...
Jamie you can't help the school coz it's the governments fault... Yea okay you changed government policy in the UK but you have to do it here too.. Oh thats what your trying to do? So thats the whole point in what your doing??.. Right
well it might not work so i say why bother... I'm a conservative and this is the way i think
@PokerJoey888 Why bother? Your right it might not work, It also might work, can america afford to not bother? I personally dont think so, Jamie is hated by alot of kids over here because he took away the chips, what they dont realsie is what Jamie has done is give them an extra fiew years on there life. From experience the food in school has improved massively and i have always loved the work he does. I dont assume you are a parent because i know for a fact my parents would be unhappy...
@PokerJoey888 ...unhappy and even disgusted if i was still eating the crap the school used to server to us, and when i see 'Jamies american food revolution' i see that the food we used to get was amazing compared with what american kids are getting, honestly, ive never seen so much crap in my life on the school lunch trays, provided by what people claim to be a great education system, well i say these kids need more education on what they are eating.
@PokerJoey888 People should be given the option to eat healthy, and what the school were serving up, they had no option. I think you should also take a look at the benefits in both health with the young people and the money side, do you not think that putting a fiew billion into the health care (gona be honest here dont know what billion we meen,1000,000,000 or 1,000,000,000,000) either way, the money saved in the hospitals will be enormously more than this. You are obviously ignorant 2 the facts
Reason TV???? And I thought Americans didn't understand irony. OOOOhh look at me i'm eating a burger, what a rebel. I was hopeing there might have been some half reasonable arguement in that 'film' instead of some smug, self publicising douche bag. At least Oliver is doing something positive for the kids of the fattest nation on the planet. I'm sure his 'revolution' will have a bigger impact on the world than Mr Moynihans third rate journalistic skills.
Delicious food? Macdonalds? Are you stupid? I'am american but the food that we had are the worst thing, it's call "Junk food", try good things and clean your head.
This video seemed more like an anti "big government" rant than an evaluation of food policy in the US. I think Jamie is trying to help people using his considerable influence and it's such a shame that there are so many people putting the health of themselves and their children at risk due to xenophobia and an unwillingness to change the status quo.
The food revolution is not just about getting people into eating healthy food. One of his points is that if you teach people to cook from scratch, they're gonna be a lot more reluctant to consume the crap they would normally do from fast food. Microwaveable food can be healthy and unhealthy, no doubt, but people will still generally be oblivious to what is actually in it. Get them to cook with fresh (or frozen) ingredients and they won't cram a ladlefull of lard into it.
Want to hear about Obesity levels in the US ? - Dr. William Dietz, an obesity expert with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, cautiously called the results promising: "We're at the corner; we haven't turned the corner." So in reality the comment is - people will die, but at the same constant rate. Adds context eh ? So read don't worry because 30,000 people will die this year by stuffing their faces, but it's not going to get any worse .... yeah !!!!
Let me get this right ... so the system is wrong .. lets just and sit and watch. (fresh food and healthy food are not the same ... yeah right and yeah wrong) ... now let me think .. lets create the next argument of black is the same as white. You see you can always make the right fact(s) fit an alternative argument .. but what do we really believe .. what does your conscience really tell you .. eh ?
Americans often gets called fat and stupid. This video didn't showed nothing else. I mean....take the host for this show for example. " I'm gonna eat this delicious cheeseburger...Glad I'm not an american 'cause I'd be ashamed of myself, my country and it's people...
haha, liking the comments here. Your the first to blame, the last to except responsibility! Jamie is just trying to help, and I think if just for a few families (he's not just dealing with schools, but families of a town that is suffering early deaths due to a bad diet) benefit from this then his revoloution was worth it. Thats better then a mcnugget induced heart attack.
If you actually knew the slightest thing about food, instead of pretending to do so, you would know that you are just talking a load of rubbish.
You are actually just dumb. But, with any luck, you'll have a heart attack from all the crap you're eating and we won't have to put up with your idiocy for much longer.
he didn't blame it on the schools. he basically said that they are eating shit at school and at home. so if he can at least give them 2 good meals at school. he also said he loves french fries, but you shouldn't eat them all the time etc etc etc
why dont you stop being so defensive all the time and just listen to what has actually been said
Jaime Oliver DID consider the Government Role in school lunches. Didn't you actually watch the show ? McDonalds? What's wrong with you? Teens will eat whatever you ALLOW them to eat. Don't parents and adults have a spine and know who's in charge?
What the hell is the US army going to do when all the dumb kids (dumb enough to join) are to fat to fit in a Humvee or a tank? The skinny chinese won´t even have to use guns to invade... they just push em over and they won´t be able to stand up again. Good luck in the fat future US
@Rechbert Good to see you're so impressionable. If Jamie told you to blame Jews for all your problems, you'd be the first throwing rocks through windows.
Well, I hope he can give this cheese burger to his kid to school everyday and still be happy about it. Its ironic how they treat people as idiots. Whats wrong with anyone trying to improve the quality of food being given to children and fighting obesity? Theyre just trying to save fastfood restaurants' asses.
How could you promote eating hamburgers? You are killing people! killing them! you should be ashamed of showing your face to the world. Please, someone ban these kind of videos from the internet, kids could watch them.
@Rosaliliam .....censor the internet....are you out of your damn mind....keep your own kids off the Internet if your not comfortable with this kind of imformation...as for taking your opinions and values and telling others to BAN this because its contrary to your belifes....well lady that makes you go to the ...."everything i hate about stupid people " category....
Ok I should've watched the entire video. This host is an insensitive prick. They take Jamie oliver's crying on his show out of context, and then appears to be holding down laughter when he comes on screen immediately afterwards. And his girlfriend from the magazine claims that $2.70 can be spent on a HEALTHY lunch that isn't "fresh", and proceeds to say that working adults do it all the time. Maybe SHE'S okay with subsisting on Lean Cuisines, but that doesn't mean that people with a brain shoul
"Organic kale on the lunch tray". That really just makes me want to smack her. If she had actually seen anything to do with Oliver's show, she would know that it only campaigns to use raw ingredients from local farmers, not overpriced organic produce. The fact that the guy starts off the video by decrying
delishius and deathly. you dont have to eat burgers every day. you can have one day in the week when you go out to eat some. it does not need to be every day mcdonalds mcdonalds mcdonalds.
The USDA says that french fries and ketchup represent 2 serves of vegetables - what ignorant fools they are - either that or someone is making so much money out of feeding their kids shit that they just dont care for a change
The one thing I see being overlooked here is that whether or not you agree with Jamie doing everything he can to inspired change, dialogue has increased as a result! This proves that massive action and change can start with one person and it also proves that idiots like reporter "Mick the Dick" are the reason change sometimes takes a bit longer to come around. Well done Jamie - God's got a place put aside for you Brother!
Seriously this guy is just put this up to his face on the internet, and the comments about fresh food is ridiculous not to mention the benifit US farmers recieve as a result of a higher demand for fresh food production. Imports on food are decresing as a result of higher needs for consistent local produce which countries like panama cannot produce enough of to suppy the US and themselves. BIG PICTURE PLEASE!!!!
dietry related desises caost $150 billion/10% of US total heath care bills, so if your complaining about $5billion for better food you need to consider the long term bigger picture and sustainable projects.
@LadyLatias Jamie means well but like most activists, he chickens out when it comes to attacking the REAL source of it all. Government schools fail at everything.
this is something a little kid would argue about because there the ones who are getting the food they don't like but for an adult to argue is stupid because he is leading you're country's kids and teens to a brighter and healthier future
i can not believe the crap spurting out of the lady in this video that seems to deem there is a healthy option for nuking your food in a microwave, portion control and fresh food and anything that doesn't contain a chemical plant on your plate is the way forward
@babs2002ukus Except there is no significant harm from microwaving food. Many foods retain more nutrients after being heated in a microwave than by being heated by conventional sources. Chemical plant on your plate? You're not concerned with actual health issues, you just want to rattle an ideological saber.
@tkwelge not concerned with health issues??, listen you prat.... you can't not agree pizza for breakfast in a kids stomach is heatlhy, and chicken nuggets with more chemical additives than bathroom cleaner is then deep fried is healthy?? I have 3 kids and cook fresh food everyday for them and that is the issue here and the microwave contributes to the craze of lazy cooking which involves lazy food with lazy ingredients, the simple matter of the fact is oliver will save lives
@babs2002ukus I never argued that those things were terribly healthy. I'm not sure what you are getting at. More chemical additives than a bathroom cleaner? Hmmm. Okay. You also seem to believe that "lazy" cooking is somehow inherently bad. You are perfectly within your rights to eat as you would like, but I don't agree with half of the statements that you spout as absolutely true. Sorry. When did I argue that pizza for breakfast was healthy? I hope you enjoy burning straw men.
@babs2002ukus Jamie oliver will save lives? How horribly unhealthy would a school lunch have to be to cause a kid to die of obesity at that young of an age? Okay, he might encourage better lifelong behaviors, but people are already trying to encourage those behaviors. Jamie is just a cheerleader for more government spending. He could achieve the same goal through encouraging real reforms that would cost less money, and he wouldn't have to make up hysteria either. that was reason's point.
aye reforming small minded misinformed people like yourself tbh, its not rocket science mate....... kids school meals are fucked..... and something needs to be changed and for christ sake get the hell off the money wagon here... a country that pumps a load of money into weapons yet can't feed its children properly kind of sums things up and this is were your damn money should come from, and bear in mind its not just the amount the kids eat its also what they eat
@tkwelge and to add to my point.... I see your from america which i put it to you that your consumed by the media machine that convinces millions of you guys that its ok to eat like dogs and that my friend is reality and not 'an Ideological saber' and to add the same problem is over here in britain also but the difference is we don't campaign to knock a guy that is trying to see right by young kids from irresponsible parents who are too lazy and uneducated to feed their kids properly
@babs2002ukus If you want your kids to eat better, feed them better. Don't act as if it is the school's job to feed, raise, and exercise your children as well as educate them. Some of us don't need Jamie Oliver's great wisdom to guide us. Anyway, the point that reason was making was that the schools could feed kids healthier for less money, which is the opposite of what oliver is proposing. Way to throw in the America jab, sir. Sorry for being born, shit.
@tkwelge again money is the issue over a childs life? the problem we have here is that we have 2 different systems of governments, over here in britain we do expect a system that brings our children up with a healthy diet and yes we as taxpayers expect that.
my proposal is the americas should pump that extra dollar jamie is proposing into a child and make up for the loss by cutting the production of warheads.. again not rocket science
@babs2002ukus Why should we pump more money into programs when less money and decentralization is an equally optimal solution? WHy are alternatives unthinkable? Reason is against wars, also. Reason is pro peaceful coexistence and lower military spending in addition to what they are saying in this video.
Jamie did indeed take the government to task for its part in the problems with school lunches, and more than once.
It says his efforts in Britain have had mixed success but then only gives examples of failures.
Then some random woman from reason magazine makes the claim that a healthy lunch can be easily provided cheaply right now from some frozen food company which she feels everyone uses!?
Also her snarky claim about organic kale - misleading and useless.
@thelastmike What makes that cheap frozen food less healthy? It's nutritional content is right on the package. What makes fresher food inherently better?
Yeah, jamie is taking the government to task by demanding that taxpayers spend more money on a government program....... I bet that really stung.
I don't see how anything in this video invalidates Jamie Oliver's work... especially where you explicitly state that Oliver has completely failed to address the fact that government systems and "nutrition" requirements. The opposite is true. The major obstacle to Oliver's mission to get healthy, fresh food into schools was this system, and Oliver's TV series made that very clear.
@freezemarked What makes fresh foods so healthy. The main issue that reason is taking issue with is the increased government spending, which is unnecessary, combined with the prohibitionist aspect of many school health programs that restrict what kids are aloud to bring from home. Reason isn't arguing that eating healthy is bad. They're not even arguing that healthy food shouldn't be served in schools.
@tkwelge That comment was kind of jacked up. It's late and I'm high. But basically, what I am saying is that fresh food isn't inherently healthier than say canned food, and it would be a huge step up from what kids are eating now. Reason wants kids to eat healthier. They just don't believe the hype. Nor do they want the government to fix another problem in a bad way when decentralization could work just as well or better and cost less.
Reason TV, you guys and gal went in to the fantasy land of I want to remain stupid on this subject! Why don't you ask Jack Lalanne what proper eating habits do for the human body? He has forgotten more than you buffoons know about nutrition!
Sorry, but most of what passes for food in America tastes like shit, and isn't just "unhealthy". I've eaten most of that garbage for most of my life, and it was refreshing to discover good tasting food that isn't liquified, flavored plastic putty like McDonald's. If you want to motivate kids, you simply make them go without until they get hungry enough. This isn't about what kids want, this is about what's best for them. (Otherwise, they wouldn't be kids.) Adults can go fuck themselves.
@blissfulight As someone who has eaten at many fine restaurants and knows people who have traveled abroad, I fail to see how American food "tastes like shit." People like you should go fuck yourselves. I don't think that they are suggesting that kids should get to eat what they want, just that parents should get to be main decider of what their kids eat. And the government shouldn't need more of our money, anyway.
@tkwelge I think you meant "fuck yourself", although I will happily continue to fuck people like me. Anyway, I think what Jamie Oliver is suggesting is that the schools should make better use of what they have & not produce food that is only slightly palatable to the teenage palate (everyone loves fat, salt, & sugar). Since we're already contributing a great deal of money and food toward the school lunch program, we can do better, and do it more efficiently, and with greater benefit.
@blissfulight No, he wants to expand a government program, as he has often called for higher levels of spending as a solution to the problem, when the schools should be able to get better food for less money, not more. Funny how Oliver is always calling for MORE money to be spent, not less. Also, you are ignoring the prohibitionist aspect of Oliver's proposals which involves the banning of certain foods, even against PARENT'S wishes.
@tkwelge Wendy's, Burger Kind, and Taco Bell are not "fine restaurants" (and I'm fairly certain they couldn't even be classified as restaurants), and knowing people who have travelled abroad doesn't exactly qualify you as much of a Michelin reviewer, so you'll forgive me if I take your pedigree with a grain of salt.
most of what passes for food in America tastes like shit, and isn't just "unhealthy". [end quote]
I hardly believe that Americans get "most" of their food from Wendy's, Burger Kind, and Taco bell. You're asshattery knows no bounds sir. You just keep missing the point.
@tkwelge Reading through your other posts, I get the sense this is more about you being a politically marginalized libertarian that no one listens to (good job on the last election) than it is any experience or insight in dealing with these problems. I look forward to avoiding your comments in the future, since you don't have anything interesting to say, other than the canned responses you scraped off of Ayn Rand's plate.
@blissfulight Oooooooo! Burn! Except I've never read more than a synopsis of Ayn Rand, and I was unaware that she had ever written a book about school lunches. "Canned responses." What a dufus.
@cavakun Um, what he was saying was that it isn't the fact that pizza and burgers are in the cafeteria at schools that is making kids fat, but the fact that kids eat fatty foods all day, mostly outside the cafeteria.
Hope there was a shitload of ammonia in the cheeseburger he ate

Cold blooded piece of garbage.

it's strange how in a supposed democracy like America parents are not given the opportunity to voice their concerns & opinions about whether or not they would like more money being spent of 'Public' school lunch programs providing healthier more nutritious foods to their children as in this instance it really is a matter for the government & if you don't like that libertarians you of course have the freedom to not follow along, but don't brainwash people into this ideology of less is more.

Children that young should have NO say in what to eat.
philateliceun 11 months ago

One of the most ill-informed and ill-advised videos I have ever seen. Morgan spurlock makes a pretty decent argument against your "delicious burgers", so feel free to feed your children the same diet for 18 years if you think that's a good idea.

Did you not notice that Jamie was complaining about brown bag lunches (from parents) composed entirely of crisps and candy?
robthebloke 1 year ago
@robthebloke Of course i did. And it's the PARENTS fault. Parents that don't parent are the reason for the horrible health of their own kids.
RBNightlinger 1 year ago 2
Is this guy stupid, Jamie Oliver's whole campaign is just to ensure that kids eat healthily at school so they're guaranteed one healthy meal a day. His campaign is then to encourage parents not to give their children shite food at home. What exactly is wrong with what he's doing? Spend a bit more on keeping children healthy and you'll end up spending a lot less when they get sick from fat.

@PokerJoey888 ...unhappy and even disgusted if i was still eating the crap the school used to server to us, and when i see 'Jamies american food revolution' i see that the food we used to get was amazing compared with what american kids are getting, honestly, ive never seen so much crap in my life on the school lunch trays, provided by what people claim to be a great education system, well i say these kids need more education on what they are eating.
kwallb44 1 year ago
@PokerJoey888 People should be given the option to eat healthy, and what the school were serving up, they had no option. This video seemed more like an anti "big government" rant than an evaluation of food policy in the US. I think Jamie is trying to help people using his considerable influence and it's such a shame that there are so many people putting the health of themselves and their children at risk due to xenophobia and an unwillingness to change the status quo.
madhillick 1 year ago
The food revolution is not just about getting people into eating healthy food. One of his points is that if you teach people to cook from scratch, they're gonna be a lot more reluctant to consume the crap they would normally do from fast food. Microwaveable food can be healthy and unhealthy, no doubt, but people will still generally be oblivious to what is actually in it. Get them to cook with fresh (or frozen) ingredients and they won't cram a ladlefull of lard into it.

i can not believe the crap spurting out of the lady in this video that seems to deem there is a healthy option for nuking your food in a microwave, portion control and fresh food and anything that doesn't contain a chemical plant on your plate is the way forward
babs2002ukus 1 year ago
@babs2002ukus Except there is no significant harm from microwaving food. Many foods retain more nutrients after being heated in a microwave than by being heated by conventional sources. Chemical plant on your plate? You're not concerned with actual health issues, you just want to rattle an ideological saber.
tkwelge 1 year ago
@tkwelge not concerned with health issues??, listen you prat.... you can't not agree pizza for breakfast in a kids stomach is heatlhy, and chicken nuggets with more chemical additives than bathroom cleaner is then deep fried is healthy?? I have 3 kids and cook fresh food everyday for them and that is the issue here and the microwave contributes to the craze of lazy cooking which involves lazy food with lazy ingredients, the simple matter of the fact is oliver will save lives
babs2002ukus 1 year ago
@babs2002ukus I never argued that those things were terribly healthy. I'm not sure what you are getting at. More chemical additives than a bathroom cleaner? Hmmm. Okay. You also seem to believe that "lazy" cooking is somehow inherently bad. You are perfectly within your rights to eat as you would like, but I don't agree with half of the statements that you spout as absolutely true. Sorry. When did I argue that pizza for breakfast was healthy? I hope you enjoy burning straw men.
tkwelge 1 year ago
@babs2002ukus Jamie oliver will save lives? How horribly unhealthy would a school lunch have to be to cause a kid to die of obesity at that young of an age? Okay, he might encourage better lifelong behaviors, but people are already trying to encourage those behaviors. Jamie is just a cheerleader for more government spending. He could achieve the same goal through encouraging real reforms that would cost less money, and he wouldn't have to make up hysteria either. that was reason's point.

aye reforming small minded misinformed people like yourself tbh, its not rocket science mate....... kids school meals are fucked..... and something needs to be changed and for christ sake get the hell off the money wagon here... a country that pumps a load of money into weapons yet can't feed its children properly kind of sums things up and this is were your damn money should come from, and bear in mind its not just the amount the kids eat its also what they eat
babs2002ukus 1 year ago
@tkwelge and to add to my point.... I see your from america which i put it to you that your consumed by the media machine that convinces millions of you guys that its ok to eat like dogs and that my friend is reality and not 'an Ideological saber' and to add the same problem is over here in britain also but the difference is we don't campaign to knock a guy that is trying to see right by young kids from irresponsible parents who are too lazy and uneducated to feed their kids properly
babs2002ukus 1 year ago
@babs2002ukus If you want your kids to eat better, feed them better. Don't act as if it is the school's job to feed, raise, and exercise your children as well as educate them. Some of us don't need Jamie Oliver's great wisdom to guide us. Anyway, the point that reason was making was that the schools could feed kids healthier for less money, which is the opposite of what oliver is proposing. Way to throw in the America jab, sir. Sorry for being born, shit.
tkwelge 1 year ago
@tkwelge again money is the issue over a childs life? the problem we have here is that we have 2 different systems of governments, over here in britain we do expect a system that brings our children up with a healthy diet and yes we as taxpayers expect that.
my proposal is the americas should pump that extra dollar jamie is proposing into a child and make up for the loss by cutting the production of warheads.. again not rocket science
babs2002ukus 1 year ago
@babs2002ukus Why should we pump more money into programs when less money and decentralization is an equally optimal solution? WHy are alternatives unthinkable? Reason is against wars, also. Reason is pro peaceful coexistence and lower military spending in addition to what they are saying in this video.

This is quite poorly done.
Also her snarky claim about organic kale - misleading and useless.
thelastmike 1 year ago 6
@thelastmike What makes that cheap frozen food less healthy? It's nutritional content is right on the package. What makes fresher food inherently better?
Yeah, jamie is taking the government to task by demanding that taxpayers spend more money on a government program....... I bet that really stung.
tkwelge 1 year ago
I don't see how anything in this video invalidates Jamie Oliver's work... especially where you explicitly state that Oliver has completely failed to address the fact that government systems and "nutrition" requirements. The opposite is true. The major obstacle to Oliver's mission to get healthy, fresh food into schools was this system, and Oliver's TV series made that very clear.
freezemarked 1 year ago 3
@freezemarked What makes fresh foods so healthy. The main issue that reason is taking issue with is the increased government spending, which is unnecessary, combined with the prohibitionist aspect of many school health programs that restrict what kids are aloud to bring from home. Reason isn't arguing that eating healthy is bad. They're not even arguing that healthy food shouldn't be served in schools.
tkwelge 1 year ago
@tkwelge That comment was kind of jacked up. It's late and I'm high. But basically, what I am saying is that fresh food isn't inherently healthier than say canned food, and it would be a huge step up from what kids are eating now. Reason wants kids to eat healthier. They just don't believe the hype. Nor do they want the government to fix another problem in a bad way when decentralization could work just as well or better and cost less.

I am beginning to think Reason TV is all about politics instead of actual Reason!
CherokeeApacheIrish 1 year ago 5
Reason TV, you guys and gal went in to the fantasy land of I want to remain stupid on this subject! Why don't you ask Jack Lalanne what proper eating habits do for the human body? He has forgotten more than you buffoons know about nutrition!
CherokeeApacheIrish 1 year ago
Sorry, but most of what passes for food in America tastes like shit, and isn't just "unhealthy". I've eaten most of that garbage for most of my life, and it was refreshing to discover good tasting food that isn't liquified, flavored plastic putty like McDonald's. If you want to motivate kids, you simply make them go without until they get hungry enough. This isn't about what kids want, this is about what's best for them. (Otherwise, they wouldn't be kids.) Adults can go fuck themselves.
blissfulight 1 year ago
@blissfulight As someone who has eaten at many fine restaurants and knows people who have traveled abroad, I fail to see how American food "tastes like shit." People like you should go fuck yourselves. I don't think that they are suggesting that kids should get to eat what they want, just that parents should get to be main decider of what their kids eat. And the government shouldn't need more of our money, anyway.
tkwelge 1 year ago
@tkwelge I think you meant "fuck yourself", although I will happily continue to fuck people like me. Anyway, I think what Jamie Oliver is suggesting is that the schools should make better use of what they have & not produce food that is only slightly palatable to the teenage palate (everyone loves fat, salt, & sugar). Since we're already contributing a great deal of money and food toward the school lunch program, we can do better, and do it more efficiently, and with greater benefit.
blissfulight 1 year ago
@blissfulight No, he wants to expand a government program, as he has often called for higher levels of spending as a solution to the problem, when the schools should be able to get better food for less money, not more. Funny how Oliver is always calling for MORE money to be spent, not less. Also, you are ignoring the prohibitionist aspect of Oliver's proposals which involves the banning of certain foods, even against PARENT'S wishes.
tkwelge 1 year ago
@tkwelge Wendy's, Burger Kind, and Taco Bell are not "fine restaurants" (and I'm fairly certain they couldn't even be classified as restaurants), and knowing people who have travelled abroad doesn't exactly qualify you as much of a Michelin reviewer, so you'll forgive me if I take your pedigree with a grain of salt.
blissfulight 1 year ago
@blissfulight In your original post, you said:
most of what passes for food in America tastes like shit, and isn't just "unhealthy". [end quote]
I hardly believe that Americans get "most" of their food from Wendy's, Burger Kind, and Taco bell. You're asshattery knows no bounds sir. You just keep missing the point.
tkwelge 1 year ago
@tkwelge Reading through your other posts, I get the sense this is more about you being a politically marginalized libertarian that no one listens to (good job on the last election) than it is any experience or insight in dealing with these problems. I look forward to avoiding your comments in the future, since you don't have anything interesting to say, other than the canned responses you scraped off of Ayn Rand's plate.
blissfulight 1 year ago
@blissfulight Oooooooo! Burn! Except I've never read more than a synopsis of Ayn Rand, and I was unaware that she had ever written a book about school lunches. "Canned responses." What a dufus.

organic kale? I think thats a bit extreme! Just real meat, vegetables and fruits would do. Kids feel better on it. Less sugar, less crap.

Thats consistency!
Oh and in the meantime im gonna eat this delicious cheeseburger!
cavakun 1 year ago
@cavakun Um, what he was saying was that it isn't the fact that pizza and burgers are in the cafeteria at schools that is making kids fat, but the fact that kids eat fatty foods all day, mostly outside the cafeteria.
