I am 10 mins in... And this guy keeps talking about how supposedly street smart he was at 10... He is sounding like he hasn't gotten over how badly he did in school and he's trying to justify himself to a roomful of strangers, who the hell is he ??!
while it is true that kids need to have their actual talents encouraged, this guy comes across as kind of a jerk. Do we really want to encourage kids to be so dishonest? Taking money for someone else's work because you tricked them is pretty amoral behavior.

I loved both videos-going to put them at different times on the Girl's CEO Connection Facebook Page and our blog and then on our Realizing a Vision Facebook group page. And I too have the CEO disease. Thank you for posting this
Awesome vid... I was one of those kids in the late 80's early 90's that was on ritalin and prozac etc. etc. I'm now 32 and finally being creative about trying to make money. I'm not the "worker bee"... I can't do it. I can't sit in an office. I wish my parents had seen this vid when I was a kid.
@cameronherold Thanks for the encouragement. I need to start thinking the glass is half full and realize I'm still pretty young... and not that I missed out on my teens and twenties to get my but in gear. Thanks.
I think the main message is: Teach kids to be creative. Imagination is more important than knowledge - Einstein said that.
Whether you're an entrepreneur or not - creativity is the key. In my world, entrepreneurs were evil people full of greed. So we were effectively taught to stay as far away from that as possible - not by explicit rules, but by much more powerful myths and stories. Think Mr. Burns.
And drugging kids is dumb which *should* be obvious.
Thank you for this! How encouraging for this mom of a newly diagnosed ADHD boy. Now I understand why at 4 he sold interesting rocks he found around our place to anyone he met in order to purchase the water gun he wanted in June (a month before his birthday). I shouldn't scold his impatience, but applaud his tenacity!
Yeah everyone wonders why I fear homelessness so much. They don't understand, "job" is a four letter word, and it's not an option. It's boom and/or bust, both, really.
I think he misses an aspect of this condition. It's the distinction between the visionary entrepreneurial type and the purely monetary type. The type that hes discussing is the more common type, The arbitrage entrepreneur. The visionary, would never LOVE a startup that produced only arbitrage. It's a much higher risk affliction.
Yeah everyone wonders why I fear homelessness so much. They don't understand, a job is it's not an option. It's boom or bust, always has been... both, really..
Great speech Cameron! Very inspiring, Dad did a good job motivating all of us as kids and i'm so thankful for that and hope to pass that along to my kids. I will certainly be passing along this vid for viewing to all my friends with kids also! loved it
I do think we need to encourage kids to be creativite thinkers and self-starters. At the same time, kids also need to learn how to work with others and work with "the system". Entrepreneurial emphasis, carried to an extreme, could become radical individualism with no regard for community. In the end, what makes a peson succeed is his or her ability to work well with others, regardless of whether one is an employee or an entrepreneur.
As an educator who has spent the last 15 years in elementary education, it seems to me that this guy makes one assumption after another about public education today. My suggestion is to spend some time volunteering in a classroom or two so you have basis (other than personal experience only) for your stance.
This reminds me so much of my own father. Entrepreneurship is the only way. If you teach your children entrepreneurship they will never go hungry! Great talk.
This should hit homeschoolers double hard because they left the government system of "education" to keep their kids from becoming cookie-cut shapes (and for other reasons). What I don't see are parents like Mr. Herold's dad who involved himself with his kids. HE nurtured that entrepreneurial spirit in his children. That's what homeschoolers have that public schools don't offer! If Mr. Herold had been homeschooled he wouldn't have wasted so many years sitting in the back seat in class.
Wow - Thanks for all the great comments everyone. I'm super passionate about this idea and getting the idea out to millions. Too many kids get beat up emotionally in the school system instead of people saying - hmmm - maybe they're entrepreneurial...

I need help, and a family needs help. We need prayers, good karma, whatever you believe in. This is not spam, just please take 2 minutes to read the most recent post on my blog:
Its easy to forget that before big industry, Hypermarkets etc. that the prosperity of the country rested on the small family owned concerns. The The small family shops, the butcher, baker and candlestick maker. The backyard workshops all powered by entrepreneurs - it was a way of life. Apparently swept away by the larger and larger global companies, with their thirst for a docile work force - turned out by the Education System.
The problem with this is that not everyone can be an entrepreneur. Imagine what kind of world that would be. Who would actually get the jobs done? For every idea, you will need engineers, scientists, builders, workers to make it happen. Sure Steve Jobs started up Apple, but he got ideas from other people, he paid programmers, engineers, designers, factory workers in China, advertisers, sales people, etc. to get that iPad made and delivered to your hands.
Good setting about helping kids being anything they want, being creative. ADHD is a gift and does not have to be surpressed by medicines! Not every kid has to be in tight fitted education program, let them be creative and develop them in every way they want (with guidlines from you're side) and look what happens.
@RCSuperPowers How about instead you just get started? I wasn't raised this way, but at 19 years old I'm running 2 very successful businesses while a full-time student. If you have an idea message me and I'll help you get started
@JustinEatWorld Hey thanks man. Yes, thats just what I've done a few years ago so I'm good thanks. For me, this kinda stuff is the hardest because so much of the population thinks its "wrong" to not think and work like the average drone. I'm very thankful for entrepreneurs that reach out and tell the next generation its ok to preform at a higher level than everyone else.
I am nearly in tears, I have felt this way and done this stuff for my entire life. Ruined my relationship with my father, failed in school, did drugs, and got fired from every job. I thought there was something wrong with me up until this day. Thank you thank you thank you. BTW I was diagnosed with "CEO disease" this week.
This is just mind blowing, I have been that way all my life, and now it just makes sense.
I bet thats why I like everyone out there learning to market online and start an online business, have not giving up to this day, and I can see why we just can't settle with just a J.O.B. "Just Over Broke"
