  • Is that salamander obese? I feed mine night crawlers twice a week and she is no where near that size. She is probably close to the same length tho.

  • its like a lizzard fucked a frog,

  • eww

  • Do they need to be kept in water? Or you can just take them out for a short period of time?

  • I really want one of these! I've kept axolotl for a long time but want a change.

  • One person hates salamanders

  • i bought a water dog at petsmart, everyone says they turn into tiger salamanders, is this what he will look like eventually?

  • is this an axolotl?

  • @DJGodmanDJ No, but tiger salamander larvae are often sold as axolotls because they look similar. Axolots never grow out of their larval stage.

  • Why the fuck was there a commosial with a cookie!

i wanted to take him back to the pond.. he already died its so sad..

but i'll keep it in mind whenever i take a new one, i just wont catch one from a pond again

    and yeah Nirvana ROCKS!!!

  • @nirvanaisdeshit There isn't a salamander in existence that needs a fucking heat lamp. RIP to your "epic" pet. DO SOME RESEARCH.

  • @colossus it wasn't a heat lamp you know, just a lamp, and i didn't read anywhere about normal lamps killing salamanders, but apparently they do.. and well people learn from their mistakes. once there were scientists who wanted to test if a parrot could live without oxigen. turns out he couldn't, but hey thats research to you know. and by the way why are you hating on me for a comment i pasted ten months ago? don't you have something better to do? its pointless

  • so.... i heard you like mudkipz

  • Its obese.

  • You shouldn't handle them!

  • wow thats a good size !!!

  • Awww my salamander is like that hes nice and calm and loves to be handled

  • I found a small black one and it died within a few hours

  • i don't think it likes the camera XD

  • do the y have toxcins

  • its cute.

  • wow good

  • how long do they get?

  • I should be getting a salamander as a pet in a few days. It wont be a tiger salamander though, I believe it is the blue spotted salamander.

  • so are they poisan or not

  • no theyre no poisonus

  • do they bite please reply on my page

  • they can't 'bite' because they do not have teeth.

  • Ambystoma tigrinum is the awesomest creature in the WORLD!

  • salamanders are cute.

  • hi please could you tell me how much a tiger salamander would cost with a viv pls thanks

  • they are endangered so it's illegal to buy in most countries. At least in Canada it's illegal to buy and sell them. But they live only a few miles from where I live so we caught one in the wild.

  • mine costed me 3 bucks and he is like the best pet i've ever had. he costed 3 dollars because a girl in my class found one, brought it to school where i offered her 3 dollars for and thats how i got my pet :)

  • dumb ass girl yd she take it from its home

  • were can i find some wild tiger salamanders?

  • where can you get these? i cant find a place near me.

  • Can some one PLEZ tell me what itz life spand is!!!???

  • 12-15 years :)

  • I've had one for 12 years in a humid terrarium with sphagnum moss and a little pool; I've fed him Reptomin - but always by hand, can't get him to take it if I just put it in there.

Very healthy and very friendly - believe it or not, these salamanders like attention!

  • thanks for uploading this, i was thinking of getting a tiger salamander.

  • i've watched all of your videos and its not that i didn't like them, they were very informational, but they didn't answer the question i wanted to find out.

can i put the salamander in the same cage as a gecko, or other pet, and what are its natural enemies and that sort of thing.

  • No you can't because the salamander likes humid, and the gecko doesn't they both have diff. setups, heating, all that, Err, you can't really keep anything with it, other than like another compatible salamander

  • couple of questions.

    1) are they terraric, aquatic, or a lil bit of both?

    2) can theyre skin toxins posion you?

    3) how big do they get

    4) how big a terrarium is recommended for a tiger sala.?

  • 1)terrestrial unless breeding which is exceedingly rare in captivity.

    2) There skin toxins are very mild and unless digested seem to be harmless to human beings

    3) big adults hit 12-14inches long

    4) the minimum recommended size for one adult is 2 foot long, 1 foot deep and one food tall

  • o cool, i am probrolly going to end up getting a savannah monitor though

  • hes got an adult

  • The reason you get a $10,000 fine for posession of a tiger salamander in CA is because it is illegal to keep any salamanders of the genus Ambystoma there. The endangered California tiger salamander (Ambystoma californiensis) will readily hybridize with other salamanders from that genus, and that is part of the reason it is endangered. Not all tiger salamander species are endangered, and if you let a captive animal go, you risk spreading any disease it may have caught in captivity.

  • I've been keeping tiger salamanders since the age of 9. Once they're in captivity it isn't wise to release them into the wild. Most tiger salamanders for sale in the US now are Ambystoma mavortium, the Texas tiger salamander. They are hardy captives, but shouldn't be seen as a "pet" because of their declining numbers in the wild.

You guys have all of those animals? really? that's nothin!

I have 22 species of salamanders (approximately 500 individuals)

3 species of frog, 200 in all

  • Thank you! I feel better.

I was told this by a woman that the Petco employees and the police officer she called decided was too zealous and misinformed. However, I never planned to keep it as a pet as it was a wild salamander hanging out in a bad place- a carport on a busy street. But, we had to take it to a wildlife center to have documentation and bloodwork taken. Then my son and his friends released it in an area recommended by the people at the center.

  • whats a gd species of salamander for begginer i have gt 2 beared dragons and 1 gecko but i have never had a salmander

  • Omg its adorable! But.... hello you don't keep them as pets!!! Thats sooo mean! Let it gooooo! They are supposed to be kept in the wild! Let it go...... and stop thinking your soooo cool, you are mean to be keepit in your house!!! Let It go!!!!!!!!! Now!

  • I have 6 lizards and 2 frogs. I take them out side and they have no idea what to do. If you get Captive Boren Captive Bred thhen you are not taking them out of there naturle habitat.

  • Thanks, sportsrule9! In California, anyone caught with a tiger salamander faces jail time and minimum $10,000 fine. They are endangered and it is illegal to keep, sell or buy. So, I don't where he got his, but he better let it go, like you said.

  • humans keep so much these days i dont knwo why your complaining. we have fish, mammels etc why are reptiles/amohibians any different? because they cant be domesticasted? well neither can fish and small rodents

  • Umm, they actually CAN be domesticated! Look at the axolotl and the African clawed frog! those are two perfect examples of domesicated amphibians.

  • how are they domesticated? they cant do anything to you(as they are in a tank and cant leave water) does that make them domesticated? Are fish domestic? becuase they are like fish.... reptiles are not domestic pets they dont do anything for us except give is pleasure. Domestic animals do something for us... dogs were for hunting and horses are used for all kinds of things = your relly dumb if you think there domestic

definition: 'converted or adapted to domestic use'

  • well "your relly dumb" if you assume a salamander is a reptile

  • amphibion?

  • @ThisBeAlex it is a reptile

  • @TheCheater9000 no..i dont think they are

  • @TheCheater9000

Look it up you moron. A reptile lives on land its whole life. I suppose you think a salamander is just a slimy gecko?

  • @ThisBeAlex salamanders are amphibians

  • Tiger salamanders are hardy pets, but shouldn't be kept as "pets" because they're becoming increacingly rare in parts of their range. This one is definitely a bit obese.

  • They are endangered and it is ILLEGAL to keep as pets.

  • no there not! Its not illegla to keep them as pets in europe and a lot of america. They are becoming rare and thats why captive breeding is really trying to press thorugh with them. If it was illegal they wouldnt be picked up for the pet trade..... hundreds are shipped to eurpoe etc

  • A lot of the tiger salamanders are illegal on the pet trade, the laws just aren't enforced as well as they should be, they're more worried about teenagers smokin a little pot here and there. Do some reading on the topic before you claim to be an expert wise ass.

  • they are only endangered in some localalities and are fine in others

as with another comment i replied to you with wikipedia states... 'However, Tiger Salamanders are only listed as endangered in Delaware, New York, New Jersey and Maryland'

  • also arizona

  • It's a bit obese. They are hardy pets, but I wouldn't advise keeping them as "pets" because they're becoming less common in the wild. Axolotls (a neotenous tiger salamander from Mexico) make far better pets, and they're only available from c.b. sources.

  • if they were so endangered why are hundreds being exported to europe every yeaR?

  • There are hundreds of the endangered Neurergus kaiseri being exported every year as well. The reason? They're highly sought after. And YES they are endangered in some ranges, it's only certain subspecies, but hey if people can get a few extra bucks that's all that matters to them. Why don't you do a bit of research before posting your dumbass questions?

  • they are endangered however there are plenty of them is some areas.... they are being conserved and many captive breeding programs are being done

wikipedia states 'However, Tiger Salamanders are only listed as endangered in Delaware, New York, New Jersey and Maryland'

  • @Herper666 You're a waste of cells. Go do some research asshole.

  • Nice specimen!

  • you might be right on the best choice of pet but I prefer the spotted salamander.

  • or the marbled it looks awesome =P

  • Wow, a nice 10 to 12 inch long (Blotched?) Tiger indeed! Love the colours on its skin. A bit on the fat side though.

  • woooOOOooow

  • cool :P
