  • i REALLY want to try this on this shetland that i no!!

  • i dont know what to do were i board him says if i cant get him to calm down i cant keep him there hes big and knows it hes gone threw 3 fences just to get away, were. I bought him from they sent him to the meninites for a month to be broke to drive i broke him to ride. I feal he doesnt trust me but i have never done anything to him when i lounge him he will come right to me and follow be around but if i turn around to fast in his eyes or go to pat him and tell him good boy he takes off

  • Hello,

I hope you can give me some advice I have a 3 year old draft he green broke to ride and drive , He is so spooky he will jump on top of people if they dont get out of the way , he freaks is anything moves fast even opeing a gate he will flip out rearing and take off he is so hard to catch i can go out there rub him no problem as soon as he sees a halter he takes off and if you have ahold of his main he will rear up. Please can someone give me some advice?

  • @mastachef2010 It will take some time and trust. Have you achieved a Join-Up with him?

  • If you can get another fake arm, then you could give him quite the massage!

  • I officialy love this guy!!

  • Love women that ride horses!! Nice ass XD! subsrcibe

  • I love Monty, hes amazing. I just bought an appy X sports horse. She will be 6 months when I bring her home. I wish she could stay with her mother longer. But this is the age her breeder says she's ready to go.

What I'm wondering is if you can start join up on a weanlings? It shows Monty teaching join up on this little weanling, but everywhere I've read you should wait til they are 2. The thing is if I can join up with her when she is a weanling, teaching her to be brave will be much easier.

  • excuse me.. i have a filly that is going through a problem with her back legs. i dont rush or use harsh handling of any sort. shes good all round and quieter then my older horse. i have a feeling something or someone has harmed her or she has leg problems. but then again people say its nothing that shes just getting older and fussy. i tried the stick hand but soon as i use my own she flinches and jolts forward....why?

  • i loved his demo when i went to watch him because he doesn't only speak his thought but speaks the horses for them like 'come on come over here... *changes voice* oh but mr roberts i don't wanna go over there' its really funny but really helps you understand how the horse feels

  • I really love his personality to the horses. Not only is he slow but he gentle and almost "motherly" if you know what I mean. He pushes the babe just out the its comfort zone and then comes back into the comfort zone without ever mentally damaging the horse. He is really lovely to watch

  • I know how to train this plastic! :D

  • Awesome. Monty was the first horse "whisperer" I'd ever seen before I realized there were so many. But I still thinks he's the original and greatest. Thanks for uploading this video!

  • I brought you a present! :D

  • would a join-up work with a 1yr old filly?

  • Wow! this was wonderful to watch... have never seen Monty Roberts train before so this was a very pleasant experience... wish he lived closer!!

  • he was very bostfull. but this is usefull even though i did some things like this with my mare i never thought of ballons. good idea

  • in 4 mins and 18 secs i learned so much

  • that is a gorgous appy! i wish my app was that color full haha maybe her foal will be haha ~cross your fingers~

  • MONTY GOD BLESS YOU FOR ALL YOU HAVE DONE FOR HORSES -- LETTING THE HUMAN MASSES KNOW THAT HORSES' ARE SOMEONE TOO & HAVE A SENSE OF SELF. [HORSES HAVE A GREATER SENSE THAN MANY HUMANS I KNOW TOO] THANK YOU MONTY.

  • I wish instead of buying from a breeder more people would rescue a PMU foal or other horse that would have been so carelessly discarded. it just breaks my heart=[

  • he's amazing i have his movie and alot of his books. btw would it be okay to use a small riding ring opposed to a round pen?

  • @Shinypants52 Yes, Monty has done a Join-Up with a wild mustang on 1000s of acres. You want the horse's energy to flow as opposed to stopping their flight mechanism down in the corners of an arena. Some people have used bales or jump poles in the corners to round out the arena.

  • Monty has about 15 DVDs of lessons now and 7 books. I highly recommend From My Hands to Yours, his textbook. And his EQUUS online university on his website

  • I really love the people who don't just stick die hard to one particular trainer. I think that all the famous horse trainers have great ideas on horse training. Its all about blending and finding the right combination for you and your horse. Although, Monty Roberts is my favorite

  • lol i like your meathoods! :). great work!! i love when you said ahahah i know how to train this thing. if i stand still ect ect. lol that made my day :)

  • I'd to try Join-Up with my loan pony, but i don't have a circle pen thing, any ideas what i could do?

  • My mare always needs a hug before I touch her halter, but she wont let me get near her. she is an arabian horse standing at 14.2 hh. I tried a join up and it worked in 6 mins. she followed me around and let me hugg her. but she still won't let my touch her out in the field.

  • @windspeaker114

awe this sucks. arabs are such touchy animals :( but once they have your trust they do amazing things for you and they are definatly one of the best partners. keep trying bud! once you break that wall your horse has built up, i garentee you will have an amazing companion

  • It was over 15 years ago I believe that I read Monty Roberts first book "Horse Whisperer"?? This book changed my life and how I lived it with horses.

ALL of my horses have benefitted from his book- from my paint stallion to all my arabians- they all thank him too!! Love it and still use his info to this day.

  • What a beautiful horse :)

  • well done! fantastic video can i ask you if a horse doesnt really want to walk on and has a bit of attitude how can you want to go forward and be qwith you? THANKS XX

  • @4evadressage Have you achieved a Join-Up with your horse?

  • i suppose but she can be a bit stroppy when im trying to work with her but shes trying to get to the hay bails

  • @4evadressage Join-Up is a an achievement you would know about if it happened. Its very cool! Try it and then ground manners will make some progress too.

  • i really like join-up and natural horse manship, they helped me a lot with my horse

  • This horse is an appaloosa, generally speaking they have unbelivably gentil and calm attitudes... It doesn't suprise me that they trained it so quickly :)

  • @Diazreta Have you ever worked with a PMU? ;)

  • @debbieloucks LOL exactly Diazreta. Breed doesn't give 100% give temperament... the horses experiences do. PMUs are taken away from their mothers EXCEPTIONAL young.. far from even being weaned some when they are only days or even hours old. They severely lack trust from that bond being taken away too soon... or having never been allowed to even form.

  • @Shokara2 Presumably pmu means the horrible 'pregnant mare urine' industry that treats foals like waste products. Shut it down by boycotting the products, humane plant product alternatives exist. I work with rescue horses and I have also raised orphaned kittens who were tiny, my cats. My experience is any type of rescued animal will bond even more deeply with the rescuer - their love and gratitude is very strong. I have experienced this many times. I have used Monty's system already - fantastic!

  • I believe in Monty's methods 100%. My father taught me the same things many, many years ago. Before I even heard of Monty Roberts. My father didn't even know who he was until I told him. Every horse I ever worked with responded just like this.

Even my rescued paint. And he was starved and beaten.

  • wow! he truly is amazing!! im doing a report on him and i love watching all his videos:) its amazing what he can do with horses:)

  • monty roberts is the most amazing horseman ive ever known and once had the pleasure to meet its so good to have someone out there who actually listens to the horses his methods have worked on all my pshycologically affected horses though i did not know we used the same method till i saw him live

  • he is a big idol for every rider, i want to be like him.

  • he is a big idol for every rider, i want to be like him.

  • I love most of the methods this trainer uses. However, I think it is ridiculous to use a dummy hand or a weighted dummy rider to touch the animal. If you cannot use your own hand, than you should not be training horses.

  • @phelone3560 It's a safety pro caution.. not to mention it's weird and different looking. The fact that the baby accepts it touching him is a building block in his trust.

  • I disagree. I personally have re-trained an abused mustang that got forced into the trailer by using a cattle prod. You could NOT touch him any further than his withers without him getting scared and kick you. I build the dummy hand and used it on him. Within 3 days you could use your own hand... WAAAY BETTER THAN GETTING KICKED.

Be safe at all times folks.

  • I really like these methods. I use the join up with all my horses. However... I think it is ridiculous to use a dummy arm or a dummy rider to touch the horse. If you cannot touch the horse with your own hand than you shouldnt be training horses.

  • @phelone3560 so what do you use that works? I think I will Listen to Mr. Roberts and not listen to some one who decides to be judgmental.

  • when ever Mr Monty Roberts comes to my neck of the woods i go an see his demos! he really is a living legend! and i love the fact he never preaches, just teaches! he never says his way is the right even though his ways always work! all the money he makes goes into starting new training programmes!

Getting a better relationship with your horse really helps when you speek their language! and i love that monty helps us learn that! =)

  • I don't think any one system works all the time. however from what I have seen in this video it's very similer to how I was taught and anything I can learn from someone who obviously has more knowledge than I do Is alway's appreciated. I like the sounds of him though the type that has a good system but does not say it's the only way. open minded. gotta appreciate that. I never thought about baloons the tarp and the plastic bags we use but never baloons.

  • Wow.... If that was my mare she would have said...See ya!!!!!!

  • Lawl! I loved the Balloons Haha ...cool vid

  • I know how to train this plastic :-)

  • hes cute. should the lady be PULLING him to her in the begining of the video? that doesnt seem rite. pulling means stop not go

  • IS monty good gloria !

  • he's so cute - and obviously loved his present XD

  • the barn i ride at just got a new QH mare from a stockyard (a rescue lol). i rode her for the first time today and while on the lunge and while riding, she didnt want to trot. walk was fine, canter was fine but no trot. when i asked for a trot, she kinda jumped between a walk and canter. any ideas on wat to do? ive never dealt with a horse like this!

  • Racer or showjumper .. they dont learn to trot sometimes .. hope this helps :) x

  • My horse never used to trot why don't you try to long line her or try to hold her and drive forward gently. My horse used to jump walk to gallop and now he's great :). You just need to be patient but if she breaks into a canter don't stop just try to slow it right down and eventually she should trot if you keep urging her forward gently :)

  • I would start on the ground!

  • i brought you a present kissey!!! ooh isnt this scary!!!!!! its getting closer!!!!

  • the ever leathal balloon haha

  • i love the name , 'Kissy'

  • He looks like an appaloosa.

  • I need a Litle help I have this stud colt about 18 to 19 months now. I got him about three weeks to a month ago he is a sweet boy but he is really shy I take my time with him a groom him alot or try to and I run water over him so he ca nget use to the feel but i have to start trainng soon any ideas on how to go about it?

  • haha xD

  • taking your time, an just being patient can be a good key to getting him ready. You want to make sure since hes a stud that he respects your space, cu they can be great so long as they have manners, but a stud without manners can be a nightmare. Touching him all over, places where he shivers or flinches, keep touching till he relaxes, picking up his feet, gently tapping the bottoms with your hoofpick etc. get all your ground work done get the horse respectful, an rest will come a bit easier

  • I would recommend Monty's book "from my hands to yours" which details the join-up process, and also which tools to use to start your horse, etc. I have the book--it's a gem.

  • I know what kind of rescue program he came from, the cuestion here is what kind of horse is he,,..

  • "I've got a present for you Kizzy..."

Love it! this guy is great. he really understands horses, its really inspiring!

  • so if you had a horse that was totaly shy of people and never let you catch them and you did join up with that horse, would the horse become less shy of you?

  • it learns that you understand it, and once you join-up,

you bond with that horse and it becomes your friend and it knows from the body language you used when you joined up that there is total trust there....there is no physical punishment used, and that's the idea. Pure equus!

  • I love the principle here that goes for everything going forward from here, that you are here to be trusted.

  • that guy is awsome!!!!!! My horse and my friends could use a little work with that type of stuff.

  • i had to catch acrazy ass mare today and i did this i caressed her on her backk and her side and she let me catch her....took me 5 mins when it takes 15 to 20 for other people!!!!!

  • :P :P

  • thats a very good job!!

  • What kind of horse is that? The coloring is just beautiful! Part Appa maybe?

  • He looks like a pony of the americas..POA

  • My hero! I want to help horses the way he does. thanks for posting this :)

  • Monty, I met you in the early 80's in Ocala Fla. I was working on a QH/TB farm there as young girl, I think I was 13. Any way you there teaching the trainers better ways to train the horses. I have used the methods you taught for aprox 30 years. Thank you for those tools and inspired me to be the trainer I am today. M Mazutis

  • thank you for posting! I am 18 and am excited to become a horse trainer using monty's methods; he is my inspiration. my cousin works with monty, and I am fascinated and inspired by his motto gentleness is strong. I want to learn at his ranch, Flag is Up farms. congratulations on your work with horses!

    N Sheridan

  • Wow. That is what you call a horseman.

  • nooo the dreaded balloons!!!!!!!ahhh!!

  • i used monthy roberts method on my arab mare and what a differnce!! his methods of training are phenominal!! i wish every trainer out there was like him!

  • OMG I LOVE HIS BOOK "SHY BOY"!!

  • Monty Roberts is my insperation. I want to become a horse trainer just like him.

  • MONTY is a LEGEND!

    =D

  • he is so comical too I love how he thoroughly explains everything that he's doing! great trainer, Favorite-d.

  • I wish I could meet Monty Roberts...favorite trainer, ever. :)

  • I'm in the middle of reading Monty Roberts biography and it's amazing how he was able to figure this stuff out.

  • omg i met him it was so kool got his autograph as well

    i'd luv to do this

and i luv the baloon bit

my mum trained with him aswell she went to america on a corse

  • bahhaha he was like doing a really fast trot instead of oa canter.

    cutee horse

    i wanna try that.

  • I love to se Robert training horses.

  • oh... that is so heartwarming.. I would love to meet this man.. love how he comments on the horse's thoughts, and his gentle laugh..

great job to all THREE participants.. and beautiful little horse!

  • what an unusual trot......look at his back

  • The 'trot' (although looks more pronouned in the walk to me) is unusual because it's a youngster and is croup high. This means that the forelegs are carrying more weight. Thus, the forelegs will come down more quickly and spend more time on the ground than the hind. The goal of dressage is to reverse this situation. Also a baby's proprioception is less developed than an adults!

  • Hihi! How cute!

"here I bought a present for you!"

    And the horse just

"WTF is that?! Get away! RUN!! IT'S FOLLOWING ME!" :D So cute!

  • "The ever deadly lethal baloons!"

"Ha I know how to train this plastic!"

Monty Roberts is my favirote train. He doesn't rush things and he thinks alot about how the horse feels.

  • Appaloosa and Monty Roberts... my two favourite things!!

  • I wish all racehorse trainers to have to watch this.

  • @gemorge most racehorse trainers just want their horses to be the fastest. They could care less if the horse is jumpy or not. and yea ALL horse trainers should see this. You can still have a fast horse without it being jumpy as all getout. or gate shy

  • I want to go to his ranch too :D

  • Lol, Monty Robers is very amazing. I want to go to his ranch soon.

  • I've been to his ranch! It is so amazingly beautiful and aboslutely fun to be there.

  • i admire monty roberts for who he is , and what he was giving to us with his life, spending to understand horses!

go on monty, u r the real "horsewhisperer"!!!

  • I Love the horse! And that little training session is so cool how fast the little guy got what the lady wanted.

  • wow that's amazing!

  • Monty robets is a genius the best horse trainer ive ever seen by far. I love his methods and his gentle ways with horses and that appaloosa was very beautiful.

  • wow...

i love watching stuff like this :)

and i like monty roberts a lot... iof anyone wants a good book horse book to read, i would highly reccomend 'A man who listens to horses' by Monty Roberts. It's really helpful!!!

  • And also would it effeceted the horse even if you start working on him a little late? like this horse i am going to work on is 3 years old will it make a difrents?

  • it shouldnt. im using it on my 6 year old mare.

  • Wow this video has lots of great ideas! i think i will use this on my horse!

  • ye i used 2 read the heartland books...n der r a great series bt monty roberts is de best!!!

he is soo gud wit animals..i woz watching 1 of his videos of him an his deers its amazing!!!!!

  • Very cute little foal. I do join-up daily with my green, younger mare. It works great, and when your horse trusts you they will. Allthough I don't overly agree with how this girl is handeling this horse that is supposivley really un-trained She also looked a bit nervous around his feet. It's understandable, but for example, when she asked him to go forward she put alot of pressure on him, instead of encouraging him on. Otherwise, good

  • i heard about joining up from a book called heartland where this girl named amy treats horses using kindness, its a series

but one thing i was confused about was when she pulled on the lead rope. shouldn't you let the horse decided when it wants to be your friend? wouldnt you want the horse to be willing to come to you?

  • ohh i read all of those books too!! and thats where i first heard of join up too. hmm i dont remember her puling on the rope though...

  • Horses don't naturally understand that pressure on the lead line means to walk forward, so she was pulling on the rope to encourage the horse to walk forward, not necessarily to go to her.

  • i love watching this stuff

    i had 2 do this 2 my horse :]

  • never seen so many positive comment

  • love him

  • ive got a pony called nipper and he was absued so he bites but launches at the same time and i got a woman called sarah krizser who has been trianed by monti roberts and she was great she torte me hw to do join up and now he dosnt bite he nibbles sneakly , he is great (monti)

  • very smart man

  • i love watching him work

  • I could have used this guy while training Okie.

I had gotten Okie at the Houston ASPCA, he came from abusive and neglative owners, and he was afraid of everything and everyone.

I had to start traing him at the place where they had kept him since we couldn't get him into the trailer or lead him.

  • What a CUTE little baby/yearling!!!!!

  • We can all learn from Monte.

  • omg where did u get ur horse?! Adorable!!

  • love monty roberts work with horses. He inspired most of my horse training ideas.

  • I'm not a big natural horsemanship person, but Monty is brilliant and honest.

  • It's so cute how he still flinches at the stuff, but trusts them so much. Crazy. I want to try this with my ponies now lol.

  • Mor then amazing !!!

  • Monty Roberts is amazing.

    I love that guy. X3

  • wow amazin gunna try it with my pony x

  • hahah lol "he doesnt like his birthday present" Hahaah :D

  • i love when he rubs the balloons on him. really cute ap.

  • I want to go buy some ballons now lol, My 3yr old isn't very spooky I can walk him over tarp and under things prety well lol.

  • What a beautiful foal! I love appaloosas.

  • Columbia Basin Equine Rescue has many horses that are shipping to slaughter Monday. If everyone who posted on this video donated 100. you could save at least two. If you love horses take part in saving one. I doubt the people who bred them thought the'd end up there.

  • vive monty

  • brilliant!! x

  • hehe..that leopard foal didn't much care for those balloons, lol.

  • wow monty roberts is really awesome

  • that was amazing!!!!!

  • hehe hes funny

  • Awesome, learning lots of stuff watching this guy...

  • i love you Monty .you are so wonderful . my goal is to be a horse trainer and to be the 2nd Monty Roberts. i love how gentle you are.you are my hero!
