When I first heard this song I thought "if DEVO released this as a single it would easily make a top 40 hit". Yet they didn't, becasue DEVO being DEVO, didn't need to.
31st of February with Allman brothers nailed THE perfect version of this fantastic tune. Neither Devo's, nor Dead's nor Nazareth's versions come close, but all still are good by any standards.
i didnt know that DEVO... did a version of this TUNE.... wow... PRETTY wild.... I am big appreciator of DEVO... and big appreciator of the GRATEFUL DEAD.... I saw Morning Dew performed by the Grateful Dead a number of times.... when is DEVO playing again? NICE VERSION
This is quite an ok version of this song actually! But the absolute best one is with Einstuerzende Neubauten, which can´t be found here in you tube.. =(
Ugh, this to me sounds like it belongs on an epic scene in some 80's film where the hero is getting into his car and is about to save his girl or somebody else equally important. I can see why this album doesn't get many good comments from fans.
Awesome video. Love Devo... Love the song. Of course the Dead does the classic version, but also check out the Martin/Vonne Electric Bands version. It is the best version I have heard.
@donnyv78 Look I 'm not picking an arguement with you or saying your wrong but I'm honestly mystified by your comments. How could Lulu's version of anything be better than anything(the woman is one of the worst white soul singers ever). As for the dead well their name sums it up. Devo are closer to the original in many ways just a view. I'm interested in your original comment.
@TheHughLundy Give Lulu's version a listen...it's very intense. True, the Devo version is the only version I've heard that stays truest to Bonnie Dobson's lyrics, but the Devo version just sounds emotionless.
@donnyv78 Thanks I've just given Lulu's version a listen. Sorry to say I find the same problem on this as with all her other songs she's trying to hard to sound black. She just doesn't have that edge I hear in Marianne Faithful or Nico's voice. It may be just me but I get more of a chill listening to Devo than Lulu -sorry we can't all think the same or like the same things.
Apparently not so. Going by Wiki...the original version was written by Bonnie Dobson. It would seem Tim Rose nicked credit for it in dubious circumstances.
Still...a bloody good version by Devo, none the less...and in keeping with its origins from the book "On The Beach" as well!
I spoke too fast. After looking it up I found out that it was written by Bonnie Dobson in 1962. Like a lot of other people,I remember the Lulu version. Fred Neil covered it. He is remembered for "Everybody's Talking".
I disagree. This seriously kicks ass!! Just ran through most of the other versions I could find on youtube and all of them bite except maybe Tim Rose. But knowing he and Fred Neil kind of stole the song from Bonnie Dobson lessens my enjoyment of Rose's contribution....ya!
I don't know why this keeps happening but my comment is nowhere near the comment I was disagreeing with. Nobody take offense who is just above or below this - This comment is in completely the wrong location.....
Good job!! I still think Damnation of Adam Blessing SINGS it the best, but this would be my second favorite version, because of the great images which portray the devastation of nuclear war.
The last video I watched made from DEVO Music were just random scenes with no meaning or theme. Whoever made it didn't "Get It". Cheetah from the beginning of DEVOLUTION
Check out the BEST version of this song by a group called "The Damnation of Adam Blessing" on their CD-"Damnation of Adam Blessing". They recorded from 1968-1972 and then disbanded-a Cleveland, Ohio band. You will never hear more powerful vocals.
The original was done by Bonnie Dobson, but the best version and most known version is prob. by the Grateful Dead. Jerry could rip this song live, and it was one of their best jams.
But you have learned from the pictures that those secretarial demiframed glasses the kids think are cool do not work without a plaid skirt...they are devolved to a dangerous level! They think TV is politics.
the boy done well. I once walked out in the morning dew after a long night into a water meadow ...

Kind of weird version. Rather happy, bouncy, chirpy, deathy, doomy.
I like it though. Prefer Nazareth, but it's all good.

It was written by Bonnie Dobson in 1962. Many people have recorded it. It is a Grateful Dead standard. Lulu did it in 1968.
