Our government was designed to have checks and balances (power is not centralized into any one branch, so each keeps the others in line), but with politicians stacking the deck with their cronies and Bush creating executive orders that go unchallenged, the whole system is abysmally broken. And politicians just play along to continue the charade.

Yes, Obama was involved in Patriot Act renewal. He also worked with Russ Feingold, IIRC (the only guy who voted against it originally?), to try and get some of the more odious things amended? Legislaters this sometimes, when they know something is going to pass regardless of how they vote. They negotiate for something and then agree to sign on to a compromise. I think some "clumsy librarians" were very happy with Obama's Patriot Act positions. But "Obama=McCain" makes for good "entertainment".

Our government was designed to have checks and balances (power is not centralized into any one branch, so each keeps the others in line), but with politicians stacking the deck with their cronies and Bush creating executive orders that go unchallenged, the whole system is abysmally broken. And politicians just play along to continue the charade.
I'm not dead set on Nader, but good for you to decide to vote for him. I probably will, but at this point, it's better to vote for ANY third party.

A lot of them; however, won't bother to vote. The standing myth is you need a majority of people to create any change; when actually, you just need a majority of those who participate. The powers that be know that a small group is easier to control than a large group, but this can also work backwards for us.

Yes, Obama was involved in Patriot Act renewal. He also worked with Russ Feingold, IIRC (the only guy who voted against it originally?), to try and get some of the more odious things amended? Legislaters this sometimes, when they know something is going to pass regardless of how they vote. They negotiate for something and then agree to sign on to a compromise. I think some "clumsy librarians" were very happy with Obama's Patriot Act positions. But "Obama=McCain" makes for good "entertainment".
