  • Nat is awesome on the piano as are all of his band. Anybody know who the guitar player is? He is very smooth and cool.

  • Total genius on the piano from NKC.

  • @TheIsraDave

without a doubt......coulda been a legend just on piano

  • I used to get my kicks on Route 66 until I took an arrow in the knee.

  • I'm making a CD of their favorite Music for Christmas. They liked people like Glenn Miller, Tommey Dorsey, Les Brown and other Swing Bands. Could someone tell me some of the hits these people had during 1950- (about) 1956. Thanks, Very Much appreciated.

  • The classics are soothing.

  • Nat is really feeling the music !!!

  • Does anybody know what blues lick at the end is? You know, the really familiar sound that a lot of rock/blues songs close with? Like the notes at the top and then the bass note at the end sound? It sounds like a 4-5-1 maybe? I don't know, I'm very bad with music unfortunately :(

  • lo Amooo!!! <3

  • Non to this day has been created like him

  • Nat was a CLASS ACT!

  • Nice tune!

Hey fellas, I just started to listen crooner music and I would to ask if anybody knows the title of some punchy crooner songs like this one or like going tadaaa (with the trumpet) and a swinging rythm tudududu. Sorry for my bad english (or my difficulty to express myself) but it's friday night and I'm already a litthle bit dipsy)

  • @C4s3yJon3s "Hey fellas; [...] I would *like* to... "

    sorry again

  • @C4s3yJon3s Check out Bobby Darin's "Beginning to see the lIght" I think that will fit your description. The user that uploaded a good version is @TheManFromUNCLE1100

  • @PS3EVH Hey not bad, thats what more or less what I was looking for. Thx

  • Wow ! A neat video

I always thought that it was Chuck Berry's song.

It was written by Bobby Troupe in 1946 and recorded by Nat king Cole in the same year.

Poor drummer with only a Conga drum !

  • Better than Depeche Mode's.

  • Se atollaba manteca de cacao en el pelo este niche

  • gaay

  • My late father absolutely love this guy.

  • pianists these days play really boring chord progressions....with no feeling like this negro.

  • One of the true greats!

  • Simply the most incredible talent anywhere of all time.

  • When was this song produced can someone tell me??

  • @RapidJuice1 1950

  • I'm a huge Nat King Cole fan! Please listen to my tribute song....a new rendition of "Rockin' around the Christmas Tree". I think Nat would be proud.

    youtube.com/watch?v=5i4kjvx9tiY

  • Omg, he looks like a robot

  • fucking hell: how gd us nat king coles voice. so unique x

  • I was impressed when the movie cars came out, one of there songs was "Route 66."

  • I'm a HUGE Nat King Cole fan! I would be honored if you would listen to my tribute song to him. Its a new rendition of Rocking around the Christmas Tree. youtube.com/watch?v=5i4kjvx9tiY&feature=youtube_gdata_player

  • Yes we can learn from Nat King Cole.no mimming, real singing, world class voice, no gimmicks.Live singing. Thanks for leaving apart of you...Natalie Cole .....

  • King of cool

  • This is beyond words man. Amazing.

  • all those talks about "music is in our times is still very good" etc..yet we are here listening to Nat King Cole....:)

  • What year was this video made? Nat swung so hard!

  • they should have had this in Fallout New Vegas.

  • Amazing that anyone with half a brain could compare the likes of Cole to Gaga????

It's like comparing Frank, Tony and Ella to Green day- man-- i just shake my head and wonder

  • audio is a bit out of sync

  • they all look if what they´re doing is boring and something like walking along the street...

  • What a Great Piece of Work!!!!!

  • I love the tone Nat gets on the piano while comping behind the bass solo.

  • @PaleFolklore13 that was unnecessary.

I love Lady Gaga. She's a genius. But so is Nat King Cole. He's got a beautiful tone to his voice. It's old-timey but a very good voice regardless. You can't compare them, they each play completely different styles of music.

  • @PaleFolklore13

You wouldn't know musical talent if it hit you in the forehead.

  • Niesamowity był Nat

  • FAN-TAS-TIC!!!!!!!!! No Wonder President Kennedy Liked Nat's Music SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!

  • I love how melodic and well-built the piano solo is.

  • @sergeeo I can't say for sure, but it was pretty common to write solos in advance for live TV spots like this one. Of course, the track is insanely great, but just mentioning...

  • Wonderful

  • who is that on percussion?

  • Comment removed

  • This is the same tune that the Rolling Stones perform, but with different vocal phrasing. To me, Nat King Cole is the most "white" sounding black singer of his time, which leads me to believe that this might be one of the reasons why he ended up with his own television show. Since white folks put on black grease paint for more than a century to perform "Jim Crow" shows, I suppose that Nat decided to give the larger audience a dose of its own medicine, in a matter of speaking. Great music.

  • Comment removed

  • Wonderful!! Reminds me of my father Leslie Sheffield!!

  • What an artist! He doesn't even need to look at the keys!

  • Yeah, this might just be the best version afterall. I was too young to appreciate the talents of Nat king Cole when I was a kid, but now I think...What a performer! My You Tube video (SEE: Route 66 festival with martin milner) hasn't had many views, hope you don't mind me mentioning it. i'd love to see an intact episode of the Nat King Cole show, and am now thinking about looking for his biography.

  • i agree with billyrosinet, ciao!

  • @MrChupacabraLoco The fact that he was black means he would kick your white butt even now when he's dead.

  • "Route 66" was originally recorded in 1946, when there were still unwritten rules about Blacks moving through "White" areas. This is a powerful Black man, singing a sophisticated song.

  • To last comment that was posted......whoever you are, God dislikes a hateful heart.

  • best piano work ever !!

  • This is not the same song the Stones use to sing... there are many classes between them...

  • Nat had the best male singing voice EVER! Too bad he & Patsy Cline never sang together. Great song also.

  • I love.

  • Anyone who can play the 88's, and sing too, is a genius!

  • I don't know who used the term "RETARD" here's one for you , YOU AMEOBA!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BOTTOM FEEDER ,POND SCUM, I'AM SURE NO TALENT FOR ANYTHING EXCEPT BEING AN INSENITIVE JERK TOWARD CERTAIN DECENT MEMBERS OF SOCIETY THAT WANT NOTHING MORE THAN TO AS NAT WOULD PUT IT IS; TO LOVE AND BE LOVED , YOU HALF RAISED NAVEL LINT !!!!!

  • I agree with BillyRosinet, you nailed it my friend

  • I forgot how good this is!

  • This cat is so cool and smooth vocally that his incredible piano playing is an unexpected, though welcome, addition to his talent.

  • Both BillyRosinet & CocacolaCowboy1919 have a point 1 example of electronics being used in a good way is the band styx & non electronics would be run c&w

  • met people from norway traveling route 66.... immediately thought about this song.. love it! =)

  • What happened to this elegance? It still inspires me!

  • For me this piano Solo is sensationell!!!

  • Great musicianship, great musicians!

  • And this is the genius of true music... an artist with not only vocal prowess, but a good hand on instruments too. Seriously, artists like these need to live longer and teach the modern world a lesson.

  • @loveydovey1ful I know! Remember that era where you actually had to know how to sing to be a singer? Thank you autotune for ruining music...

  • the singer looks sometimes like a, i wont say retard, but he looks kinda gone : \

  • @nrk98 Firstly, you did say 'retard'. Secondly, don't critisize until you can make better music :)

  • @jmilco i mean cmon dude, look at him.. sometimes he looks gone. Hes a good singer yes, but hes facial expression is to a person who is.. well.. retard !

  • @nrk98 I never said I disagreed with you, just though I'd point out the flaws in your comment! lol

  • @nrk98 Well, lets not judge people on their contribution to humanity, but instead judge people on their facial expressions! FOOL.

  • @nrk98 I'm not a huge fan of his, but calling Cole a retard automatically deigns you to the status of a "fuckwit"

...you'll get a letter about it in the post

  • Oh yeah!!! keep it going sooo GOOD

  • one of the major pop songs that featured Joplin, Missouri.

  • @RENFEMikado Pop quiz time. Name the native of Joplin, Missouri who:

    1) Starred in a long-running western, later socialized with a gentle bear, then rode a horse as a detective;

    2) Dialed a telephone with a future princess.

    Good luck.

  • SO SWEET!!!

  • Lipsync, still great though.

  • @joehiggs100 Lipsync my a-s-s.

  • I used to live off of Route 66 in Flagstaff, Arizona. :)

  • NAT, THE BEST

  • The guitarist in this film is Irving Ashby. A great, under-rated guitar player.

  • @davepenny

I like how he pulls of a cool solo and looks bored as hell about it.

  • @Rottenhaus

Ha! Ha! I think that's the definition of "cool" isn't it?

  • 41 fãs de Depeche Mode ficaram efurecidos por saber que a música não é deles!

  • wow i feelin' like want to dance..

  • the shame is people who were not born then comment on things they dont know about the west wasnt the south

  • the shame is people who were not born then comment on things yhey dont know about the west wasnt the south

  • nice....

  • damn the whole band's amazing. the guitarist knows he's hot ;p

  • Comment removed

  • DAMNIT, why didn't they have life support or cryogenics back then ffs...Nat should be on the list for people to be preserved... RIP Nat...we'll miss you...

  • i'ts fun watching his jaws narl up and down!!

  • This performance can be summed up in a single word. Excellent!

  • This video is proof that quality music performed by quality musicians never goes out of style. and to think that they did it without benefit of a rack full of electronics. Nat Cole, as always, demonstrates a level of mastery that most of today's "artists" couldn't imagine in their sleep.

  • @BillyRosinet Well some artist with the rack full of electronics are playing more that one electronic instrument, while Mr Cole is playing the piano. Just because something is electronic doesnt mean they don't have skill or talent. Its just a new instrument. Electric guitars were new once.

  • @BillyRosinet This is true music from the heart and soul. Not from the aid of advanced synthesizers and voice modulators. This is the real thing. That's why it's so good.

  • Now,my son is in Oklahoma and had chance to visit Route 66, he Asian knows this road from animation CARS. Thanks for posing this song.

  • @stefanieoerholm It's just you.

  • This song was written by Bobby Troup who starred in the 1970s TV show Emergency! as Dr. Joe Early. One of his co-stars was his wife singer/actress Julie London (Cry Me A River) who played nurse Dixie McCall. The show was produced by Jack Webb's Mark VII Productions. Jack Webb was Julie London's ex but she and Troup and Webb all got along. This song's one of the best jazz tunes ever. Look at how many people have covered it.

  • Is it just me or does the lead singer look VERY creepy? :O

  • @stefanienoerholm It's just you. :)

  • @stefanienoerholm "The lead singer"? That's NAT 'KING' COLE.

  • @stefanienoerholm It's just you who looks creepy. That "lead singer," as you refer to him, was one of the most talented vocalists to ever exist. I won't even go into his exceptional jazz piano playing.

  • @BillyRosinet Look, I'm sorry if I offend people by saying that. I know it's Nat King Cole, and I'm not saying he's a bad guy or untalented. Just that he looks a little funny with the smile and everything.. But I'ill admit that I don't know him too well. Sorry.

  • Where is my video answer?

  • Alguien sabe el nombre del guitarrista? Gracias

  • @enriquegule Oscar Moore

  • I really want to try that road, it sounds divine...

  • Love this but there is a

  • Dat phrasing.

  • this music is great. far before my time of existence. but it's what music should be like :)

  • Nat King Cole awesome talent. One of the best on offer from Uncle Sam

  • I had to do a project on the cars and route 66 of the 1920's. I used this song in it. I also got an A.

  • Gotta love that piano.

  • Whom ever you may be out there listening to this great music, just remember that it remains for all of us to keep the spirit of this great sound of Jazz alive everywhere. Whether it be the purchase of a CD, playing the music, or a visit to the local club or Park, will help keep it alive. Jack Jazz

  • MMMmmmmm...just Heaven.... what a groover...Yee HAR!

  • I want to get my kicks in Pattaya, Thailand.

  • 38 Idioten wären lieber schwarz geboren!

  • @TurboMark84 This is a truly offensive statement, so I am not surprised that you wrote it in German. Shame on you. Black, white, or rainbow coloured, talent is talent. ...as Adolph Hitler saw at the "feet" of Jesse Owens....

  • @Bookwormest What does speaking German have to be with being offensive?

Are you trying to say that Germans are vulgar people?

  • @MrBasstacular No, one of my best friends is German. I was being precise, it is written in German and it remains a HIGHLY offensive comment. The fact that I alluded to it being German was incidental. German is not the language ostensibly used on this "comment" site. Therefore, as it is written in German means that, for most people, its offensive nature is masked. Whether it had been written in French or Mandarin Chinese, it would remain offensive but, to many of the contributors, masked.

  • This is the good stuff! btw I went from LA to CHI- TOWN on RT 66 in 1966!

  • The guitar player in the video is Irving Ashby. Collins later replaced him. If one does a Google search in Google Images, and entry Irving Ashby one can find a few pictures on Ashby........sure looks like the guitarist in this vedo.

  • Why does every fucking music video on YT have to resort to “this is great modern music is shit” For fuck sake just listen and enjoy and keep your arm chair expertises to yourself.

  • @DCTheGuitarist Why? Because it's freaking true. Thank you for being a self appointed room monitor. What would we do without you? The truth is, modern music DOES suck. Oh there are a few good artists and people still play good music in small clubs. But look at the top singles of say, 1967. Look at those timeless songs that play today. Now take a look at todays top singles. Do you think people will be playing Eminem and Miley Cyrus in 2030? Want proof I am right?

  • @ToyKingWonder

    (1) 4 months ago I left that comment you fucking cunt, you have had to troll though these pages like a angry little child to find my comment, get a life.

  • @ToyKingWonder

    (2) plenty of radio channels play a variety of music, every generation has its good and bad but condemning “it all as shit proves you to be a narrow mind fucking idiot, stop listening to the radio and actually go to some gigs.

  • @ToyKingWonder

You musical opinion stretches as far as you arm, you are the equivalent to a victim of crime by a certain ethnic group who then decided to believe that every person form the minority is a fucking criminal. Your views, experiences and opinions stretch as far as you fucking arm.

And after this comment I will not communicate with you as it is beneath me to talk to vermin like you.

  • @DCTheGuitarist Oh EXCUSE ME! YOUR views must be so vastly superior because, let's see, you play the guitar? Put down the bong man, you don't even make sense. I didn't cite ethnicity, I didn't stereotype, I have just as much experience listening to music as the next guy. You didn't address one point of mine, just insult and refuse to "communicate". Of course, because you are intellectually out-gunned. Go F yourself you useless twit. Go room monitor your mommy's basement., where you live.

  • 'cont Want proof I am right? Why is nobody playing the "hits from the 90s"? Because that music sucks and was disposable. Rap and goofy ballads by the likes of Mariah Carey comprised mostly of her going up and down scales? Ah yes, the quality. Yet, the 90s stuff is already 20 years old. We had classic stations in the 70s playing the 50s stuff. Why was that? Because the 50s stuff was quality as well. I state that in no time in history has the world known such terrible music.

  • esto es de antes de los Rollings,no todo el rock lo inventaron ellos !!

  • This was his greatest hit I think! Thanks for this video!

  • Was he just the best or what? Love the Altec 21 "Coke Bottle" mic for his vocal. Those things sounded awesome.

  • @ksteiger - Oh yeah ... And the mounted the mic at his side. Hard to play one direction and sing in the other (he makes it look effortless, though). What's up with the side mount?

  • <3 nat cole i could listen to him forever

  • Music changes and always makes waves with the older generation. I love that. What I don't like about so much of today's music is that a lot (not ALL) but much of today's music and many musicians are not as skilled in the ART of music. Here we hear real artists. There are some brilliant artists today of course, but the pendulum has swung towards commercialism over artistry in my opinion. It will swing back. No reason an artist can't make waves and not need tricks or technology to sound good.

  • @Singerhayes i have to say, i am a musician and i am studying classical guitar and jazz guitar and jazz drums and i am in the middle of making an album of prog rock with all sorts of fucked up influences. but i use technology to make it easier to compose. i.e. i take loops of what i play and then i use the loops to make the arrangement sound more musical. i will do this until the track is ready to re-record with a band,i havent got to that stage yet as musicians are expensive.

  • @jtfles See, that is how I think technology can really work. You can use technology to enhance your artistry and creativity. You study and you practice. Technology is good when used as you use it. I just have a problem with people using autotune instead of learning to sing on pitch, control their breathing, etc. Keep at it! ; ) You will get there!!

  • I'm a fan of Nat, and all kinds of other music. Mozart was great, but we don't expect it to stop there. There's been great music and crap music, great players and crap players, in every age.

  • Just to remember to all that who don't like this N.K Cole... He is one of the most important influences of RAY CHARLES... at least listen carefully to this sound my friends...

  • king cole trio

  • a message to 2011 generation . back to basic when it comes to music

  • is fuking awesome i like !!

  • One of the best voices ever

  • Hey I get my kicks on Route 66! follow me

  • I love that huge smile and that easy slick smooth playing of piano and singing it makes u think like everythings all right and its so mood uplifiting. r.i.p.nat

  • Isn't it a coincidence that this channel has 66 videos?

  • Anybody know who the guitar player is?

  • @Barnekkid

The guitarist is John Elbert Collins, I say Elbert because there are alot of John Collins guitarist. He died about 10 years ago.

  • @DCTheGuitarist Thanks. He's very cool when he plays.

  • Look... Look how easily he sings and plays. Look at how little concern he has about where his last lick ended and his next begins. He always finds it. This was the singular most talented musician singer in the history of modern music. They call the Capitol building in Hollywood, "The House that Nat built". No. There will never be another. There won't even be a close second.

  • thanks nat. we miss you.

  • Sooo together !!! =))

  • Genius. I really love this guitar playing. All very, very smooth and sophisticated. A joy to listen to and to watch.
