Terrific record. This is the sort of sound I associate with 1920's Berlin, i.e., the first tempo that comes to mind, and even anticipated by a sort of feeling, where when you hear the first bars you say 'Aha!' Maybe just memory of
So sad indeed. How lovely it looked in those days and how empty and barren the aspect is now in many places. I read that in the meantime the GDR Palast der Republik is being torn down and will be replaced by a sort of replica of the previous Stadtschloß, but only the exterior, with only three of its façades. It hope it won't be yet another dead cardboard decor.
Very energetic and "Dobrindt" certainly does have "Bela's" style. G...These photos are great and now that I have seen Unter den Linden..the next time I am in Berlin I will visit the Konig Cafe for a little libation!
Like so many neighborhoods in Berlin, the Unter den Linden intersection with Friedrichstrasse - once one of the liveliest parts of town - was largely destroyed during WW II :-( Café König no longer exists, it is now replaced by the Unter den Linden Hotel, which in the cafetaria section still vaguely tries to remember the cosiness of long ago, but which is a dull concrete building on the outside.
Cafeteria.....UGH....Cozy or not...not my style, although I'm very flexible! :) Thank you for the info Patrick.
I would have been very distressed if I got there to find a big UGLY HOTEL!
Now let me see.....:))) where to next on my adventurous journey through Europe. Maybe Grzegorz will find some other interesting and beautiful place for me to check out.
Wieso fängt denn die Aufnahme mit dem Choral "Nun Danket alle Gott an", das ist ja witzig...

Excellent recording.
Hans Bund recorded under the name "Odeon-Tanz-Orchester" as well (beginning 30's).

The Unter den Linden Hotel is also gone, replaced by high-end shopping.
