so after making a beat how do you apply it to your track, im using ableton live 8, would you record it? and would you do the same thing for the other d16 plug ins?
Does anyone make physical tr style midi controllers? Something where all the nobs and buttons are layed out and function the same way a real 909/606 does?
@172Break Because it resembles an analog machine and is used within a Digital Audio Workstation such as Live, Logic, Reason, Protools, Cubase. The point of using analog machine (sequencer, sampler) is that you actually hold it in your hands and learn to work with it,get the best of it and then when you learn it,you start to feel limited in some aspects. You move on to another piece of gear.In a D.A.W., you are not limited by anything. So why should you install a simulation of an analog sequencer?
@waclosh I grew up with analogue gear and had a studio full of synths and drum machines. It's not the romantic fun that you think it is. Synchronisation was a nightmare as was the tuning (and timing) drifting depending on the temperature of the room.
Every sequencer in vintage equipment has it's own feel and timing (especially if they were pre-midi). Having owned various 909s over the years, the sequencer in Drumazon does capture the feel and timing of the original unit.
@172Break You miss the point. I too struggled with analog gear and I am glad I can use my analog gear with my DAW when I need to add some analog sounds. But why do you need it as a plugin inside your DAW? Putting samples on the timeline is easier, isn't it? And you can drop the samples with higher accuracy - you can create 1/32 and 1/64 notes. And your effects and modulations are unlimited depending on what effects you drag and drop into your track.
@waclosh It's all down to personal preference. I find putting samples or midi notes on a timeline in a DAW leads to very predictable rhythms. If I use the step sequencer in Drumazon or GURU I create very different rhythms. If I use my MPC or NI Maschine, rhythms are different again.
Once I create the rhythm, I then extract the MIDI parts to different MIDI track in Ableton and trigger the VST as a normal sound module. I don't use any of the internal seqs when creating an arrangement.
@waclosh I also meant to add. Because Drumazon uses physical modelling of the 909, it is different from using samples. When a real 909 plays any of its sounds, each is slightly different each time it plays. Druamzon also does this. If you play 16 kick drums on Drumazon, each will be very slightly different. This is what adds character to a track.
@172Break I prefer to synthesize my own samples and then vary them inside the sampler. No offence, but dont you think 909 and 303 sounds have been overused and lost their original flavor?
@waclosh Yes. You need to process the sounds a lot to make them sound contemporary. It's all part of the fun of making a tune :)
The heavily processed Vengeance Sample packs have probably had the biggest effect on what people think drums (especially kicks) should sound like.
The Acid/303 sound goes in and out of fashion every 4 or 5 years. It's been doing this since 1987 (my favourite period was when Hardfloor appeared in 92/93 - maybe that's because I was young then!).
how would you use your patterns in a song as far as sequencing a whole track, because i know it plays aslong as you have the track playing ..but what if at one point if in the song you dont want drums for a few bars and then want them to come back in again ..how would you go about sequencing your patterns in Live of Logic ??
@iammrbrowser It has midi out. Create a midi track in Live and in the MIDI From section in the track select Drumazon as the source. Arm the track and record the midi from Drumazon into a clip while it is playing. Once recorded, turn of the Internal sequencer switch at the top of Drumazon and route the MIDI back to Drumazon in the MIDI to section on the Live track. Drumazon will play the clip with it acting as a sound module.
D16 have saod they will have midi drag and drop in the next update.
@iammrbrowser well you simply assign a midi control to the drum track's audion on/off button and hit it when you want the music without the drums and hit it again to have it playing back on.
@ACIDDAN303 So you're basing your opinion off of a youtube video... You know that the max quality here was 360p right? and he had a distortion unit on the whole time? Get Real, this is tight.
Nice Nice Video. I really loved your video. Youtube can be a great asset for you. If you need any help getting your video exposed, check out this site called tubeviews [dot net] It has really done wonders for me, I have built 3 Channels up with videos at top in position and this is my forth channel i'm going to working on.
Can someone tell me how to get the Drumazon to remember your settings when you close the project and re-open it i.e. stays in MIDI mode not pattern mode and keeps your settings for each element. Mine always defaults in pattern mode opening up and forgets what I've done to the drum parts. Cheers
can you split up the drum in to different audio channels. Kicks ch 1, snares ch 2, ...? so you can ad reverb for example on snares alone? Is this possible in ableton?
If you had a choice between this and EZ Drummer - which would you use?

Yes, add an audio track for each part and set the monitor to 'IN' then choose the input to be Drumazon and whatever element for that track.
carter1210 2 years ago
No way. I never knew this. I always load up a diffrent instance for each channel.
I must give this a try. Will it work with Live?
