@jimmypiper1 Bloody hell. You just brought back some memories of Glasgow Apollo.... A 13 foot high stage for a start (I was a roadie back then). Van Morrison's first time there he walked out to the mic at the front and nearly shit himself. Has a fear of heights!!
Facebook Get Status Quo to #1 - buy this track on 5 July 2010. The best idea for a long time. Who knows what will be next.. a campaign to get Roy Orbison on Radio 1, Mott The Hoople, Cheap Trick? @billyconnearly i agree with ya, people slate them for what music they play now, and slate rossi for lancaster leaving, i feel rossi saved the quo, and brought them back to how they are now, a wicked live act, still releasing albums and singles...and @widdyhabb... john did sound good, but i prefer pete, great drummer, jeff was to fast paced for quo, but took them through a big few years, matt is awesome, talented drummer and brought them back... live long the quo

I don´t have the live aid DVD,though i did watch it live on telly back in ´85.I´ts criminal they cut this from the DVD,as i think this is one of their best live performances of this song.Did they include Caroline on the DVD?I did´nt think the Live Aid version of Caroline was their best performance of that song, others may disagree, but i thought Rick´s guitar intro sounded weak in comparison to the storming Caroline intro that kicks off their own concerts.
only people that know nothing about music say it's all 3 chords, as they heard someone else say it, if they were asked what a chord was, they'd say I dunno, people that say it are tone deaf, someone said down down was 3, I laughed if they couldn't hear it wasn't they're eejits!
"After four. Four." I've got the abridged release of Live Aid (the full set isn't cheap) and it doesn't have this clip. Status Quo have mastered more styles of rock than any other band I know. Since I don't like all styles, I don't like all their material, but what I like, I love.
@2206411411 It's probably the case that at the time when Warner were putting together the DVD, a copy of this hadn't been found or had become too degraded to include.
Of course - might it be as the Beeb are now converting everything on 1-inch C - it turns up...
Fantastic, my video got chewed up many years ago of the historic day and been trying to get a clip of this for ages. Rocking and Caroline are widely available, but for me, this is the best song they did. Perfect lads, Rock on and see you at my 50th birthday bash!!
Live Aid was never intended to be kept - the VT reel it was on could have been damaged in storage... you're talking about 1 inch open-reel back then...
francis never got the credit he deserved as a guitarist,he really was one of the most competent soloists of his era, a poor mans rory gallagher if you will, but the media just spouted guff about three chords etc etc, fuck me they were three good ones!!!
but seriously, francis was the most underrated guitarist in rock anywhere in the world,I rate him higher than clapton for technical ability,he just never weny through as many diferent musical contexts as clapton, francis just stuck to what he loved, real life honest to god rock n roll.
Quo were gods. Heads down nonsense boogie. Just what the world needs now. Did pretty damn good job as well.. warming up a crowd of that size! Saw them at Selhurst Park ('84)? and what an amazing gig. Nothing but denim for a 5 mile radius, custom 'Quo' cars outside and a crowd that didn't stop bouncing the whole gig! What a band.
you meant to say no nonsense boogie, but i think any quo fan anywhere would know what you meant and i totally aggree with you. Beer, buddies and the quo make for a good evening anytime
Great video, a real shame its not on the Live Aid DVD, however when historians look back in future generations SQ will always be known as the band that opened this world changing event!
great piece of footage.not on live aid dvd, dont know why.great blues boogie.the usa got zz top,we got quo.saw them live in 1986,supporting queen, absolute brilliant.and rick parfitt playing with fractured hand, what a pro
Not the original line up. John Coghlan was the original drummer from the Spectres in 1965 through Traffic Jam and the Quo until 1982 when he was replaced by Peter Kircher seen here at Live Aid.
great drummer my mistake! got used to seeing the famous 3 in front. He always stayed in the background more.what i would give to see the original line up once more
When I was younger (between 15-17) and was at a friends' party, one of my friend's friends would pour some alcohol into my glass instead of water (of course for a "joke"). So I drank it out fully and soon feel asleep on the party or got really drowsy. She tried to wake me up from time to time but I felt just tired.
...I'd possibly "drop dead beautiful" just standing in front of all these people or suffer from terrible limelight fever - or having the feeling to wet my pants any second (which won't happen but is only a heavy feeling of nervousness). Amazing how anyone can play like that. -> Some time ago, I've heard from a person that when learning stuff under drugs that person could only recall those things learned under drugs as well. That person was the total opposite when being under drugs. Shocked me.
