Excellent video Markee. I really enjoyed the story of Mike and co. at Blizzcon. I never really knew much about the beginnings of Glider. It was interesting to hear.

If I understand correctly, the DCMA item Glider lost on, basically makes it so you only lease the software from Blizzard. You might own the CDs but not the actual copy of the software. I think that even caused a bit of dismay to some of the most anti-botting WoW gamers.

I use to be a botter and after glider was shutdown you couldn't find stuff on ah any more it really declined the game a lot then cata came out and it really killed it for me.

I botted in WoW for years, with half a year for pure profit. My actions never negatively affected others, and I'd even say my botting was positive in the way that most of my customers said they would rather spend time with their kids than grind gold or a character for weeks. It was a problem with the game, and glider came as an effect to that. Now these grind and gold sinks are pretty much fixed and gone in the current WoW. And I paid for my college with the money I earned.

The grey area market is always ends the same way, just make sure you make enough money to cover your law suit and retire when its all said and done. Wow Marcus, didn't know you were that involved with Glider. Hilarious about the drunken Blizzcon argument though! Also a shame that Glider ended up losing due to the memory access, I don't support botting and it tends to make me lose interest in games to find out that people bot in them, but that could have pretty far-reaching implications as a legal precedent.

i almost dropped my cookie when i saw this. first and foremost though,blizzard was upset that someone was making profits off their game. now i can understand that,but in this particular case,it was ensuring their subscriptions.

i also think that copyright laws and protect ip and all that have gone way too far.sony even said "you own the physical disc not the data stored on it."

I was also quite impressed with the lengths you went to protect your customers by redacting all of their details. although i do not see how the blizzard could force glider down, just because their program copied the contents of the Ram, its insane by their logic the User is caching the contents of the Ram every time they pageFile, so by doing that they make a copy. so by their Logic they should be Suing, Microsoft & Apple for supplying operating systems that "Copy" there 1s, and 0s

Blizzard needs to realize. With getting rid of botters. They are losing money. Botters own what 1-100+ accounts. And they pay every month. If they shut down bots. More then %30 (guessing by the numbers of botters on forums.) of there players.

Yea gatherbuddy is Honorbuddy or HB. But yea I've been using them for years. And never have been banned. And I think that blizzard for some reason can't get them. So now there suing.

@Kelo60 Yeh. The guys behind Honorbuddy used to make addons for Glider (custom classes etc). They're damn good at hiding their injection hooks, thus Blizz just can't detect them. Blizz has to try and detect a bot in game. They're not allowed to scan outside of the WoW application. Basically they can't scan your hard drives, ram etc. Big invasion of privacy. Thats why they can't get Honorbuddy. (I'm probably telling you things you already know, I apologise if I am).

When blizzard can't beat you software wise. They will go to legal route. They killed the best hack in the world of WoW. Now pirox is gone. And HB is getting sued. I think there paying off these company's and the one's that don't comply they sue.

NO one in WOW ever heard of this law suit. I know of no one laying knows of this...most dont even know what a actually bot is in WOW they can not even spot one.. GLIDER was actually a very weak bot program.

We modified L2 walker and it worked far better then glider and we never got nailed. WOW walker was great

@Docthewrench Yeah, but CCP knows that "Bot-hunting" in EVE is too much of an entertaining sport to crack down TOO hard on it. Most EVE Players just prefer to pod bots than report them. Myself included :P
