Then the young parent can be dumped on the street and murdered. Attacks on Alberta using temporary foreign workers keep Albertans out of work and permit low wages and inability to support families. Foreign prostitutes fill the shelters as the gangs bring them in. Pimps hunt on the streets.

This started 30 years ago.This country went into a serious recession right as tens of millions of illegal latinos were brought in. It had a devastating effect on working whites. I remember begging for a job in a rich neighborhood as a dishwasher, anything, as a poor teen. It was cheaper to hire El Salvadorans or Mexicans. If I complained, I got called a racist nazi and told "My ancestors were immigrants too." No the middle classes are competing with illegals for crappy jobs.

I'm not rude, just stating the facts with many of today's youth. I don't blame the kids. This is not their fault. And to the person that stated about bringing child labor back... That was not during the great depression, it was during the industrial revolution. My husbands grandfather was a young boy during the GD and would cut hair in exchange for eggs and chickens. Is there something wrong with that? He went on to be a very successful business man in Cuba and started the first beauty school.

I was once living like these kids. Homeless & Ashamed!!!

Joined the Marine Corps & used the GI Bill Scholarship & Scholarship to fund my Bachelor's Degree @ a US University.

Today, i make $80k annually & have a great career. Paying Mortgage & Living in a great place.

To those kids going through this horrible & unfortunate experience I say this:

Stay Positive even when you think all hope is lost. Dream! Dream! Dream of a better life tomorrow! Write down your goals & read them out l

I feel so sad for these folks. I live in a strange place myself. Just a mere block away is what I call the "rich folks houses" and it's a night and day difference from where I stay. Just a block away. It's like comparing bombed out Iraq to palaces in France or something. Most folks around my way pose like they are well-off, but talk to the kids, and you'll find some don't eat at night or have shoes that fit...but mom and dad have shiny new cars.

Our grandparents survived the Depression, these kids will survive. They are in better condition than many of them were. Maybe they will learn to appreciate what they have and get their heads out of that "I'm a rock star" mentality! How about selling some of the stuff you have? They should have sold the gameboys and games instead of putting it in storage. What was the point of that? These families are not starving, they are being humbled and we have all been too cocky for too long in this country

@LandOfJuncoville I know many kids this day of age are reckless, spoiled, and ungrateful. However, many times this is not their fault. They got caught in the meat grinder. How could they see a crisis coming? Unfortunately, the government is not fully reliable to deal with poverty. In economics, we have this statement "There Ain't No Such Thing As A Free Lunch". Due to scarcity, we have to decide how our wealth is distributed. Some people are unfortunate enough to fall through the cracks.

We the ignorant who are on teh greener side ( if there is such a thing these days) and those who are ignorant of there life style, you know living in the moment, purchasing things that wont mean a thing next month or that t shirt of the week to feel like you a part of something bigger. Life is an open book, you either lern from the lessons infront of you or you learn from your own experiences.
