I thought we went on Sunday as a representation of the 3rd day when Jesus rose from the dead. He is going by the old testament when Jesus was supposed to bring the new ideas and testament. Why don't Christians go by the hundreds of laws Jews have as well. I am jealous, only religion that doesn't bad mouths others and doesn't want converts.
There is some really interesting history on how it was changed to Sunday by the Catholic Church. I`m not maligning the Catholic Church, just the "men" that were at the head of it at that time. So pretty much the ten commandments say love your God and love your neighbor. I became SDA about 10 yrs ago, and year at first It was hard for me to understand like the whole Sabbath thing. Good question, the Sabbath was created by GOD for man, so that man would stop his daily toil and spend time with GOD. A time for GOD and HIS creation to get closer. We are rersting from our daily work of life to spend time devoted to GOD. There is no silly question, don`t stop what your doing, love the LORD with all your heart and mind every day, but you will agree... some days you are busy and GOD goes on the backburner( so to speak ) Devote the Sabbath totally to GOD. I just don't understand how there are so many discrepancies on worshiping God on His Sabbath. If he says to do it and that it remains for us to do it, even till Revelation, why question and rationalize? Let's come before Him with an open heart and mind and let the Word speak vividly to us. Good morning, keeping the sabbath is not works it is in keeping with GOD`s law. Not mans. The 10 Commandments are GOD`s laws. If we want to do as JESUS did then HIS custom was to keep the sabbath. The only way to get to heaven is through JESUS, I think we would agree on that. No where in the NT does it say that we are now not to follow the 4th commandment, I think if GOD had intended this HE would have said something about it. GOD bless

@filoIII - Darn it; you make a good point here! This is on of the most confusing issue to me. I have only been Cristian for 15 years and I really struggle back and forth on some of this stuff. Isn't it all just about doing everything unto the Lord, whether at work, play, fellowship, or rest? I know for me, Sat. sabbath is much more restful for me, I'm just not sure if that's how everyone has to do it. Oh, and I believe everyone should be respected on their day of rest.

The particular verse you quote is talking about feast days.
It matters what day God esteems above another, not man, that is the point. If we do not believe it from our heart, it won't matter what day we keep.
Why such an argument over the Sabbath day and not the other commandments? The Sabbath is the day that honors the Creator. If we love God, we honor His day, we don't make up our own day. Lessons from the Garden of Eden show us obedience is important to God.
The true sabbath is a rest; the Jewish sabbath is a shadow, a picture of that rest. All the O.T. shadows pointed to Christ. They were foreviews of the coming of the One who would fulfill all these remarkable things. Every lamb offering was a shadow of the work of Christ The shadow-sabbath ended at the cross, Heb 4:9-10 There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.
Where is the command that says that? We are commanded to keep the Sabbath and I find no new commandment that says anything differently. We are to "remember" the Sabbath day, to keep it holy because it is the memorial to our Creator. It is the day that honors Him.
We are to cease from our works and do God's works which are His commandments.
It is the Lord's Sabbath, not the Jewish Sabbath. He clearly did not feel the need to do as the leaders instructed, yet He did keep the Sabbath. He condemned the Pharisees in the way they kept the Sabbath, making it a burden, yet He still kept the Sabbath, in the correct way, merciful.

The sabbath law speaks of working 6 days and resting the 7th. That is exactly what we do when our WORK WEEK begins on Monday. Sunday is out day of rest. Do not strain at the gnat on this one.
A work week is different from a calendar week and a work week doesn't necessarily start with monday. A work week is any week that consists of 40 regulary work hours, there's not law in the States that requires a work week to start at monday. And employers are not obliged to pay workers 1.5 times regular rate just because workers have to come back work on saturndays or sundays. So this WORK WEEK thing is not a good example of how ppl should be justified to break the Sabbath.
I go to church on Sunday cause it was the day Jesus rose from the dead. It is not because I am trying to sin against the old testament teaching. Why does the New Testament not say anything about when we should have the Sabbath? Why do German peoples calenders have Monday as the first day of the week? So if their calender has Monday as the first day of the week, is their Sabbath on Sunday?

In the end of it all... the point I'm getting to is if Jesus wanted us to keep Sunday He would have commanded it. As He died, and never changed it, neither did He at least mention the first day... keeping Sunday for whatever reason, including in honor of the resurrection..... is simply too late.

Rest in verse 8 in greek is inward rest and verse 9 in greek is the Sabbath day rest so...

@k0smon No. It does hold bearing. Almost every culture starts their week on Sunday. And in almost every culture their version they have some cultural memory of the the first day. The Abrahamic, the Greco Roman, the Germanic, the Arabic, the Indian, the Chinese, the Japanese, the Slavic, etc. They all have a translation that Sunday is either the first day or the day of the Sun. The Sun being made on the first day. And for the pagans, you would not put the god of trade before the god of the sun.

The law was given because people had suppressed the knowledge of Him (see Romans 1). But the law was not to make people good. It was to make them realize they were hopeless. It was never about "being good". The feasts and sacrifices were all symbols of the outside intervention people had to have.
True, the Bible does not teach that we can earn salvation. This is not either what the SDA preach. We are Justified by Grace, by the Blood of Christ. We are Sanctified by Obediance to our Priestly King and Lord Jesus Christ. Revelation 11:19 show a beutiful picture. In Heaven, the Law of God is still at the Most Holy Place in the Heavenly Temple. Pastor Doug speaks the truth. The biggest evidence for me, that god wants us to keep his commandments is the fact how much confusion and misinformation is spread about his law and especially the 4th commandment.

I thought we went on Sunday as a representation of the 3rd day when Jesus rose from the dead. He is going by the old testament when Jesus was supposed to bring the new ideas and testament. There is some really interesting history on how it was changed to Sunday by the Catholic Church. I`m not maligning the Catholic Church, just the "men" that were at the head of it at that time. The hundreds of laws that you speak of are the laws that JESUS came against, but the laws-10 Commandments that GOD wrote in stone with HIS own finger are the laws we are to keep. I have never heard Pastor Doug bad mouth another Church, he will point out what they do wrong but never bad mouth.

@cloecarter1 I just wanted to clarify to you that on the sabbath we rest from our daily routine and try to spend time with GOD, but if you need to help someone or do something good for the sake of the lord it is ok. Even Jesus said that it is ok to do good on the sabbath. The Pharisees became really legalistic and were not following the sabbath according to God but according to the yokes they had invented themselves for the sabbath. When Jesus said that the greatest commandments were to love God

So pretty much the ten commandments say love your God and love your neighbor. I became SDA about 10 yrs ago, and year at first It was hard for me to understand like the whole Sabbath thing. Now I can't wait to the next Sabbath. And in Heaven we will keep the sabbath too.

So, how does a person separate the sabbath from the rest of their days anyway? Sorry, if this sounds like a silly question; I wasn't raised to know God and how we are supposed to 'act'. I love God with all my heart, every day; and I don't believe we are supposed to rest from doing this. So, what is this 'rest' about; as opposed to 'work'? Good question, the Sabbath was created by GOD for man, so that man would stop his daily toil and spend time with GOD. A time for GOD and HIS creation to get closer. We are rersting from our daily work of life to spend time devoted to GOD. There is no silly question, don`t stop what your doing, love the LORD with all your heart and mind every day, but you will agree... some days you are busy and GOD goes on the backburner( so to speak ) Devote the Sabbath totally to GOD. The 4th commandment talks about the 7th day Sabbath rest, which was changed by the Roman church at the Council of Laodicea in 364, to the first day of the week or the pagan 'venerable day of the sun' or Sunday, which was promulgated 43 years earlier by the pagan Roman emperor, Constantine.

I just don't understand how there are so many discrepancies on worshiping God on His Sabbath. If he says to do it and that it remains for us to do it, even till Revelation, why question and rationalize? Let's come before Him with an open heart and mind and let the Word speak vividly to us. That way, whatever decision we make is not just an educated deduction based on true study, but a spiritual decision as well.

the direction to keep the seventh day Sabbath is not in the N.T. Jesus is our rest, as the Sabbath was a sign of God's rest. good luck TRYING to keep the Law to be found worthy on that day. Good morning, keeping the sabbath is not works it is in keeping with GOD`s law. Not mans. The 10 Commandments are GOD`s laws. If we want to do as JESUS did then HIS custom was to keep the sabbath. The only way to get to heaven is through JESUS, I think we would agree on that. No where in the NT does it say that we are now not to follow the 4th commandment, I think if GOD had intended this HE would have said something about it. GOD bless

@filoIII - Darn it; you make a good point here! This is on of the most confusing issue to me. I have only been Cristian for 15 years and I really struggle back and forth on some of this stuff. Isn't it all just about doing everything unto the Lord, whether at work, play, fellowship, or rest? I know for me, Sat. sabbath is much more restful for me, I'm just not sure if that's how everyone has to do it. Oh, and I believe everyone should be respected on their day of rest.

The particular verse you quote is talking about feast days.
It matters what day God esteems above another, not man, that is the point. If we do not believe it from our heart, it won't matter what day we keep.
Why such an argument over the Sabbath day and not the other commandments? The Sabbath is the day that honors the Creator. If we love God, we honor His day, we don't make up our own day. Lessons from the Garden of Eden show us obedience is important to God.

Where is the command that says that? We are commanded to keep the Sabbath and I find no new commandment that says anything differently. We are to "remember" the Sabbath day, to keep it holy because it is the memorial to our Creator. It is the day that honors Him.
We are to cease from our works and do God's works which are His commandments.

It is the Lord's Sabbath, not the Jewish Sabbath. He clearly did not feel the need to do as the leaders instructed, yet He did keep the Sabbath. He condemned the Pharisees in the way they kept the Sabbath, making it a burden, yet He still kept the Sabbath, in the correct way, merciful.

The sabbath law speaks of working 6 days and resting the 7th. That is exactly what we do when our WORK WEEK begins on Monday. Sunday is out day of rest. Do not strain at the gnat on this one.

A work week is different from a calendar week and a work week doesn't necessarily start with monday. A work week is any week that consists of 40 regulary work hours, there's not law in the States that requires a work week to start at monday. And employers are not obliged to pay workers 1.5 times regular rate just because workers have to come back work on saturndays or sundays. So this WORK WEEK thing is not a good example of how ppl should be justified to break the Sabbath.

It takes a death, blood to ratify the covenant. While the testator lives, it is of none effect. Once the death occurs, nothing can be altered. Jesus never mentioned the 1st day. Ever. In the end of it all... the point I'm getting to is if Jesus wanted us to keep Sunday He would have commanded it. As He died, and never changed it, neither did He at least mention the first day... keeping Sunday for whatever reason, including in honor of the resurrection..... is simply too late.

Rest in verse 8 in greek is inward rest and verse 9 in greek is the Sabbath day rest so...
If Jesus giving spiritual rest was all we need, why did He need to mention another day? There remains the Sabbath day because you need the physical rest and the physical sign to show that i sanctiy you. Ezekiel 20:12,20

We're starting to venture into trinity territory. I like to call it the Godhead or trio to avoid the confusion built into the term trinity. God and Jesus are separate yet together. Jesus created this world and redeemed it. This subject should not divide us because no fallen human can truly understand the nature of God. All we know is that God is great, so is Jesus, we should obey and that is good enough for me.

Not only that, but Christ ORALLY refers to the Sabbath as His own holy day, in the 10 Commandments and in Isa. 58:13 & 14, which means that He has declared it to be "the Lord's day", since He is Lord.
Ps. 89:34 has His testimony that His spoken words last. Therefore, for one to observe ANY OTHER day of rest PROVES that man's commandments are accepted above His; He does not condone this, but states that He is worshiped in vain because of it (Mark 7:6-9).

@k0smon No. It does hold bearing. Almost every culture starts their week on Sunday. And in almost every culture their version they have some cultural memory of the the first day. The Abrahamic, the Greco Roman, the Germanic, the Arabic, the Indian, the Chinese, the Japanese, the Slavic, etc. They all have a translation that Sunday is either the first day or the day of the Sun. The Sun being made on the first day. And for the pagans, you would not put the god of trade before the god of the sun.

@k0smon The god of trade in Rome being Mercury (Wednesday) and the god of the sun being Sol (Sunday). Even in Japanese 日曜日 (nichiyōbi) literally means nichi Sun. And they take that seriously because Japan (Nippon) is a compound word meaning Land of the Rising Sun. They all see it as the first day. The reason why is cause the Romans were not used to worship on Saturn's day so Constantine made it on a day everyone is used worshiping the Roman "equivalent" to Yeshua. And that's the day of Sun.

What I intended was to express the point, that if you believe the Law is no longer in place you are in reality a law breaker. The love of God is manifest on us keeping His commandments. Freedom in Christ is to be free from Sin, both the actual sinning and the penalty of sin, wich is death. 1 John is powerful reading on this subject. Again I apologize if I came across hard.

The law was given because people had suppressed the knowledge of Him (see Romans 1). But the law was not to make people good. It was to make them realize they were hopeless. It was never about "being good". The feasts and sacrifices were all symbols of the outside intervention people had to have.

True, the Bible does not teach that we can earn salvation. This is not either what the SDA preach. We are Justified by Grace, by the Blood of Christ. We are Sanctified by Obediance to our Priestly King and Lord Jesus Christ. Revelation 11:19 show a beutiful picture. In Heaven, the Law of God is still at the Most Holy Place in the Heavenly Temple. We as Christians are duty bound to follow and obey our Lord, out of Love for Him. "If you LOVE Me, Obey my Commands"

If we Accept Christ and continue to live a life of Sin, that is, we do not change our way, we break the Law of God willingly, we get our names blotted out of the book of Life. Rev 3:5. Well you got part of it right..Where most SDAs are misguided-santification is not what we do but its dieing so Christ can "do" in us. Galatians 2:20 "I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. The Sabbath and the Law are just a shadow-the substance is Christ. All law keeping outside of that will bear ZERO fruit.

You are mistaken. The Law of God is an eternal law. It is as psalm 19:7 states, a PERFECT Law. why would Jesus Christ, do away with the Law He gave us and called Perfect? Why would Christ, remove the Law that He Himself died to protect? If it was not important, He would have removed the Law, instead of dying. Jesus Christ, does NOT Change. He is Love, and IF we Love Him, we Keep His Commandments.

I agree with you. Paul here talks about the Mosaic law, not the Royal Law of Freedom. James 2:10-12. Jesus said something interesting in Matt 19:16,17. "if you want to enter into life, KEEP the Commandments. If you read about the Church of Ephesos, in revelation. You may learn of a group called the Nicolatians. They thaught, that man was not under the Law of God. Christ said, that He hated their Deeds. Worth considering.

Jesus defended His disciples for plucking grain on the sabbath by alluding to the time when David and his men ate the bread of the Presence (Matt 12:1-4; Mark 2:23-26; Luke 6:1-4). by this Jesus placed the sabbath commandment in the same class as the ceremonial law (or all of Law) that prohibited the eating of sacred bread by others than the priests...ok im done you guys can have last word. (The Law doesnt bring freedom tho, only death or to our knees to Jesus) out...

You misunderstand the concept. We are sinners, justified by faith, that means saved. We are then sanctified by God as we obey Him as our Creator and Lord. It is not a matter of counting, we break many commandments, James say, if we break One of them, we have broken the Law. If we break a commandment, willingly, rationalizing, we are worse than one without truth.

There are always someone, in any church, that do not believe in Christ and follow His Law. Judas Iscariot, walked with Christ and was a great sinner. Same with Korah in the Old testament, Bileam and many others. It does not mean, that entire Israel was corrupt, then. So, you cant judge an entire church, based on a few members that break the Law.

Jdnun: So you take the your interpetation of the words of Paul, one that is known to be misunderstood. The entire chapter 4 is a lovely explaination to why to keep the sabbath. Later in hebrews, he explains how much he adore the Law of God. That it is Holy and Good. He did not change it, he kept the sabbath. It was his CUSTOM. Read Luke 4:16, Jesus custom, was to Keep the Sabbath on the 7th day. We should follow our Lord should we not?
