@1010Midori they are removed surgically when they are younger, that's when they are easiest to remove after they reach a certain age it could harm them.

@back2backization It's actually pretty hard to get a skunk to spray. You have to really really scare them or physically hurt them so they really think they're in danger to get them to spay.

Skunks are so great, I regularly see them waddling around downtown Vancouver in the west end. Everyone treats them with respect, they are so sweet. Looks like a nice pet, and you that you care for him very well. He certainly feels comfortable around you, knows you and the two of you definitely have a happy bond, that is wonderful. I think it is best to leave them outside, unless orphaned or injured, but from your super video I can see skunks are adorable pets.

@positivencouragement I agree with you, except for the outside part. Most home-owned skunks have had their scent glands removed (like this one) which is their main defense system. So this could be an issue with predators like coyotes or such. I am not very knowledgeable upon this subject, just my opinion.

I would hope people who have pet skunks are very fond of their skunks, and are careful about letting them outside around potential dangers such as coyotes. Skunks are very comical, I see them ambly around down town Vancouver almost daily. There is alot of green space, bushes, shrubs ect.. for the skunks to forage in, hide in and find their food, they seem to do quite well as urban skunks. They are smart, and have adapted well to urban living.

It would be horrible to fall in love with your new family member only to have it impounded, or fall ill with nobody who can help close by!

I love Waddles! :D I had 5 small skunks that hung around my property for a while. I put some food out for them and they hung around for about a week. They would get somewhat close to me and then shake their tails like they were thinking.... hmmmm you know... we should be spraying this large person in front of us. lol Anyway... They were so cute but they started getting bigger and they moved on. Hope they are safe and lucky for me I didn't get sprayed when I tried to pet one.

Oh, he's so cute! This will sound funny but when I was 12 I accidentally got sprayed(I tripped over a skunk running in the dark and he sprayed, we scared each other pretty much, heh heh) I came to appreciate them more. Maybe it just was the close encounter. Now when I go for my night runs I avoid to run into them(I live in an apartment complex too, don't want the neighbors to smell it, heh heh)but I still like to talk to them, they're just so cute!
