I walked right past that shack on Friday past large backhoes building up sand bars about 10 feet tall or so. Discovered the waves were twice as big as they were supposed to be and I was half as good at surfing as I thought I was. Humbled I rode the foamies for the rest of the day. I had friends that went out in Rockaway Sunday morning.

The wind speed could easily have been 75 MPH or higher in this video, wind speed is measured by devices raised off the ground and not obstructed by objects like short buildings. So people can maybe -- maybe -- walk around as you see in this video, because they're on the ground and buildings and trees and other sorts of "ground cover" may buffer and diffuse the wind. But ground cover can also funnel and focus winds, so they might still get hit by full speed or even higher speed winds.
