come on every countries technology during the has its own flaws take for example the m4 sherman known for its crew and enemy as the tommy cooker or american cooker cuz of its tendency to catch on fire when hit.then the japanese with there zero which can catch on fire when hit and the german fire there submarine which almost always no survivor when sunk.there is no absolute perfect tech cuz all of this was made by humans...
Heh japs never knew their weakness they always assumed they were the master race till this day they still assume their the master race which is pathetic yet true.
If you are talking about early versions of the A6M, then you are right. But since A6M5, in action since autumn '43, it had self sealing tanks and even could dive with faster speed (it however was still too weak to follow a Hellcat in dive). Taken the date of the action in this movie, November '43, it could have been A6M2, A6M3 or A6M5. There is no clear statement. Its just, that 'Japenese planes do burn esily'-statement. This series is simplified for the average TV masses, no matter, what.
Yeah yeah. Climbing after strafing and climbing and climbing and still easily closing in at two targets... physics doesn't count for US planes, it seems. Oh.. and every Zero has to burn imidiatly. Naturally. Stupid display of whats to be reality. This series is just a split action movie.
@DaidalosTeam The Zero didn't have self-sealing fuel tanks. American planes use incendiary rounds. The Zero would often catch fire during the war when hit. The F6F was a big improvement over the F4F. Also, the F6F has one of the highest kill rates of any American plane in WW2.
I want to see stories from the other side some time. Saying 'go see a German/Japanese/whatever' isn't that easy since those countries tend to have a taboo against glorifying their side during the war.
@Hotshotter3000 They shouldn't glorify their part in the war. But they should honor their soldiers and airmen. I would like dogfights to switch the PoV to the Japanese and German fighters...if they ever make another season.
she's big, she's extra-sized, 3 times the weight of her enemy the Zero, and she can take a lot - i mean a lot - of punishment... she's the novice carrier-based pilot's friend, easy to master and to fly (unlike the corsair), brought most of her flyers back and downed the enemy with a ratio of 17-1... i wonder what it must've been to feel the shudder as 6 brownings fired all at the same time...
@BlackDHbatman say hello with bullets eh... not all - but the majority were "noobs" by the end of the war, and it was common to be an ace in one engagement... however, most allied airmen still had a very difficult time when faced with a late-model Zero piloted by a very capable flyer... the Zero may not withstand a lot of damage but a good pilot can make up for this by exploiting the big cat's weakness and the Zero's strength - low speed agility.
@3ISAMAGICNUMBR They made a plane that they felt was superior to any other fighter in the air. By the time they realized that the Hellcat and Corsair were superior, it was too late. This is what happens when you are completely overconfident and don't adjust to what your enemy is doing.
@PogoMate neutral. why get involved ina fight when you can sell arms and profit form it. pretty big if though. it may have affected the outcome of ww1 so maybe ww2 would never have happened. say it was pretty much a draw then hitler would not have gained controll...
Rabaul is a nasty place the Empire of the Sun has its base here every day the Japanese go on killing run down the Slot taking out anything that is American. the US had one goal in mind destroy Rabaul and Boganville and take Guam back.
@Mattebubben It was easier for the Germans to do such a thing. They had more chances of running into big groups of enemy airplanes (Soviets, British, Americans...) and also until 1943 the Soviet Air Force was just an ace maker for the Luftwaffe. Shitty fighter aircraft, lack of proper training, lack of doctrine, lack of good officers...
@HalcyonSkies I'm historicist, i'm on the way to become on day on a great specialist on II world war, doesn't matter tanks, boats, submarines, airplanes... i manage very good information concerning all that stuff. All of these to tell you that once saburo sakai has been retired on pacific campaign, japanese aces were... kind of noobs. No one was better than him, even if he was the instructor of new japanese pilots generation. he made a mistake and japan paid for it the rest of war
The Zero did not really have the advantage in the head on engagement. It has altitude but a head to head pass would favor any American fighter over the Zero because of firepower and durability. The Hellcat had the advantage and the Zero was wise to disengage from a head on slugfest.
The Japanese Zero was better designed to win a battle but the Wildcat and Hellcat were better designed to win a war. Japanese pilots were killed very easily by gunfire and also thought that parachuting out was dishonorable. American pilots did parachute and were well protected letting them survive and learn their lesson. Japanese pilots were too dead to learn their lesson.
Is it me, or does the engine look wrong in this video? I've never seen the "waffle-iron" things between the cylinders on a R-2800. I know that they had complex systems of baffles, etc. and carefully designed machined cooling fins, but this just looks wrong. Where's the magneto and distributers? Spark wires? Am I just wrong, or did they just simplify. They cound have at least set the cylinders further back, and added the distributers, etc. Those are a very distinctive part of the R-2800.
Well, they had a FEW veteran pilots. But I know what you mean. If a pilot can survive his first few weeks, he's a veteran and his chances of survival triple at least. Trick is surviving that long; many Japs didn't by that time. The Hellcat had a crazy kill ratio, but not because it was twice as capable. If the early US pilots had been veterans, the F4F would have done better. So the situation just reversed. I always felt a bit bad for the rookie Japs in '45; then I remember the first 2 years.
@Conwaya321 Why not? I get a different aesthetic sense when looking at the Hellcat. She's a bigger girl than the Mustang or Spit, but the lines are still pleasing to the eye in my opinion. I suppose it's subjective, but in my opinion most fighters have a certain sense of beauty, even supposedly 'ugly' birds like the A-10 (which I don't think is ugly at all!). Maybe it's just me, but apparently quite a few people agree with me on the Hellcat, yes?
@ThrashMetalMusic100 Do you have nothing better to do than to comment on something that is two years old with a childish insult that makes you look like a jackass? Obviously not.
