when racing either street strip, generally always above 4500 rpm anyways besides first, plus like lag said, for example, a evo3 16g turbo spools at 3200 rpm and can make a little over 400 hp. b4 i get burned, im not saying turbo is better, it is just more efficient. i like the fact taht i can have 400 hp and still maintain 4 cylinder gas milage, i get 28 mpg while pushing 320, it dont get any better!
I have a 92 talon and a 99 z28. You CAN NOT compare engine size and displacement when one engine is n/a and the other is not... it makes no sense whats so ever...
WOW... We don't like to treat our cars like CRAP. A junk yard motor??? It doesn't matter when or how soon your spool. It's which ones reaches redline first. We love high revving turbo Japaneses motors. You can't beat them. Looks like you like to read a lot of magazines.
Can somebody explain to me what DSM is? is it the same idea as JDM, that company that makes import tuned motors? (although JDM stands for Japanese Domestic Market). is DSM a company or a club or an acronym or what? engine type?
Diamond Star Motors is a branch company between Mitsubishi and Chrysler. Look at the Mitsubishi symbol... Diamond. and Chrysler symbol a star.
Mitsubishi supplied it with the 4G63 Engine some stock turbocharged too. And Chrysler designed the body a more amercanish kinda look if ya know wut i mean there pretty quick demons i got one.
Let me tell you how fucking sick these cars are you can spend 40 gs on a viper or a zo6 or even a suped up stang but in reality for 1000 dollars a stock talon or gsx or even the shity laser in 92 with AWD can become way faster then any stang out there i buddy owns a tsi with no overdrive and he eats them it takes an easy grand for a turbo upgrade and FMIC and its set
Well depends if you want to do things right. I spent 500 just for dsm link. then comes 100 for fuel pump, 150 for fpr, 200 for injectors, 500 for turbo, 700 for exhaust, 500 for fmic... and so on. Id adds up lol
I love all these "my buddy has...." things. I don't really care what your buddy has, because I'm not even sure your buddy exists. I seriously don't think people know how fast 10 or 11 seconds in the 1/4 mile is.
I'm not so sure that I want to believe you, as you don't even know how to spell "buddy", so I think your information might be a little bit off.
Either way you look at it, the stang would be cheaper to build, and easier and more fun to drive on the street. Why would you want to drive a car that had a powerband that began at 7500 RPM on the street anyway? It would blow.
your dumb, 4500rpm to 8500rpm is not that bad of a power band. what is this crazy turbo you speak of? 7500rpm, not on a street car. if you know what to do to a 4g63 you spend alot less than you are imagining. you dont even need a giant turbo to make insane streetable power. any of the gt30 series would be potent enough for fast spooling street domination. considering all it takes is a solid set up and careful attention in the tuning department. course all that is useless without the driver mod
If your car comes to life at 4500 RPM because the turbo doesn't spool until then, that's turbo lag. Driving a car that starts making power at 4500 RPM on the street just plain sucks. Personally, I'd rather have a slightly larger engine with the same size turbo making more power at a lower RPM for a street/strip car. Then again, I'm more of a person that likes a well rounded power band, not just insane top end that's worthless on the street.
there are a ton of turbos that spool around 3500 and can make nice pump gas power. I understand your thinking though, my friend just did a 3.4 grand prix motor swap in a fiero gt with the turbo and water 2 air ic from a GMC syclone, the car has an amazing power band. spools to 10psi by 2000rpm and pulls hard well past 6500 W/ls1 valve springs. the good thing on my dsm is the gas milage goes to shit when boosting so the lag helps me stay out of boost when just driving at lower rpms.
you can run higher compression in the 4g63 to help spool, but you wont be able to run these insane boost levels. the stock 2g runs 8.5to1 comp. mine is fully forged 9.1to1. but still I agree alot of useless street power. my tiny stock turbo was a street warrior to 60mph then it would fall off. my new one spools by 4k and pulls hard all the way through which is 7500rpm soon to be 8500rpm. that feiro is a perfect power to weight made 255whp and 257wtq on 4-5psi at 3600rpm.
Uh, the time between when you put the pedal down and the car reaches the boost threshold IS turbo lag. The time between when you floor it and when the turbo spools and makes boost is, as far as I know, referred to as turbo lag.
So if the boost threshold is high, like at 5K RPM, the turbo lag will be pretty bad. If the boost threshold is low, like at 2K RPM, there will be virtually no lag.
all you dsm haters are stupid Yeah, a viper or vette have more power from the factory with a sweet price tag to match, there is no better dollar to horsepower ratio than a dsm take that bitches!!! DSM's rule the world!
true this, tuned right the awd dsm is like a pitbull with no leash. stop comparing dsm's to zo6 vette or vipers thats just dumb. crezzy you sound dumb or more like a broken record. viper 12s 600 600 viper 12s zo6 600 600 twice the v8 twice the v8 and on. please. it takes twice the fuel twice the cylinders just to shave another 1.5 sec.
dont be scared he only looks mean, he wont bite. v8's make good power true, but there are plenty of 10 second dsm's that pass emissions in race trim. to each their own. you want to fork out 40grand for a used zo6. do it, you are not scaring any of us. do what makes your dingy springy.
Crezzy is an idiot, his first comment is that a top fuel car is faster with a V8 than any 4 banger? Duh, I am a firm believer in STREETABLE power. A 6,000hp 700ci supercharged nitro isn't a good comparison to a 400hp 11 sec talon. You have issues that require tissues.
It's actually an 8000HP 500ci engine. They're limited in displacement in Top Fuel Dragster classes. You want streetable power? How about a 1600+ HP 427 Small Block Chevy? Runs on Ethanol. Look in Car Craft- it's there, and it's street legal.
Or, just buy a $500 engine/tranny from a 70's Caddy and put it in a $500 Mustang body. Stock engine and all and you still have an 11 second car for $1000. Mod the engine a little and you go even faster. And how much did you put into your DSM to get it into the 10's again?
I don't think that that's true at all. I got my 1976 Cadillac for $400 out of a junkyard, complete, and it had 300HP and 500lb-ft of torque from the factory. So lets see, that was about $1.30/HP for me. You paid what, like $5000 for your DSM with how much power stock?
LMAOOO! you say DSM stands for dont start modifying what kind of dumbass are you more like Do Start Modifying, DSM's will eat anything and ARE reliable if so why is my friends running mid 11 and he has 225k on it? with no problems? explain it please?
No it wouldn't my friend. I have a 90 TSI. If you were around DSM you would know that DSM stands for Don't Start Modifying. DSMs can be made very fast, but their performance is inversely proportional to their reliability.
very nice dsm video! I have 2 of them.I think regrdless of what u drive there is some hope for ur car! v8s shine in there own way, while 4 bangers are good in there own way. so to say one is better then the other is just plain old STUPID! stop being an internet hero and go out and actualy do some racing to back up all ur trash talk!!!!
For your info AWD DSM tranny can send up to 100% of power to any wheel. This is from DSM faq. AWD DSM +2k in upgrades and you run 12s. Beat that with a viper. DSMs are the best bang for the buck in performance, no argument there. Period.
duh guys if a all wheel drive laucned like a back wheel drive poping the clutch it would kill the tranny and the transfer case -.- and civics are crp, y u comparing a civic to a viper omg lol
o and for the record if u tune a v8 to the max though chances are its gonna beat our 4 bangers dats tuned to maxe in a 1/4 race, but idc becuz they wont be street legal neways dats y my uncle kept his eagle talon tsi a 10 sec car
well guys i kno thers always battles between domestics and imports but guys, theres always gonna be a car thats faster than another car and if its an import thats faster then its an import or vice versa but i dont like those domestic's talking crap bout our 4 bangers becuz on the street most 4 bangers are v8 killers
haha i do give respect to dsm's but calling them V8 killers is a no no is that why the worlds fastest V8 is faster than the fastest dsm who if i believe im correct is driven by shepherd
4G63T rules. Strongest 4 banger EVER built... including all other japanese motors too. =P I rather have reliability over 8k hp. LOL...8k.. like thats going to be daily drivable. all these are streetable cars. Nothing beats Japanese vehicles.
I don't think that the six-second DSM is streetable either. The point was that top fuel cars run much faster on V8 engines than any four-cylinder car in the world.
It's streetable. Uni-body cars. Top fuel is what? It's not considered anything a daily driver would ever see. I see DSM's all the time. When you have Street Tires, compared to Top Fuel (BIG FAT SLICKS). It's two totally different classes. Get used to it, the title of this Video is DSM Power!
Yeah, which they have none of. The six second car has no exhaust, a giant turbo, runs giant slicks, and runs on alcohol and over 60PSI of boost. Unibody doesn't mean anything. It just means that the car can't take as much power without a rollcage or subframe connectors. With imports, you'd need both if you were planning on making over 300HP. How many six second DSM's do you see on the street? There are seven-second V8 street cars in the world. Driving on the road! LEGALLY!!
Yes, but does it have the stock engine? Is it able to be daily driven on the street? Does it run on normal pump gas? Because a 1700HP Dodge Viper can do all of those, and still probably beat it in the 1/4 mile.
at best 9xxhp... pump gas my ass! brent rau runs low 7s on the stock crank and no cylinder sleeves like most hondas. dodge viper 4k lb car and what is it 8.3 litres. not to mention the price
Dodge Viper weighs maybe 3000# at the most. It has a V10 engine making over 600HP- STOCK. A civic is making maybe 100 or so stock, and that's with the sport package. A viper can easily make WELL over 1000HP on pump gas using turbos. Jesus, a 350 SBC will do that and it's like 1/2 its size. So a twin turbo Viper could easily out-perform even the most hopped-up civic for several reasons. If you want to continue this, send me a message. Same for anyone else.
PLEASE DON'T READ THIS. You will get kissed on the nearest possible Friday by the love of your life. Tomorrow will be the best day of your life. However, if you don't post this comment to at least 3 videos, you will die within 2 days. Copy and paste this, to be saved" ugg its stupid i know...
Also, did anyone notice how those cars launched really slow? It's because they have giant turbos so they can reach high peak HP. They might have 500-600HP, but they only have like 100-200ft-lbs of torque. And that's why muscle cars will always dominate the 1/4 mile.
Or even better- the could just convert to RWD and have even better launches! Sorry, but FWD or AWD cars just aren't as good for drag racing or road course racing as RWD cars. Not to mention drifting....
giant turbos???i bet most of those cars have 20g turbos or smaller thats not big. as far as tq #s if its done right it should be a good powerband. Awd yields great 60ft times 1.8s bone stock. v8s can always be faster twice the motor+boost blah blah blah
To be making any sort of boost enough to get high HP out of a small-engined car you need big turbos. Same goes if you're looking for high RPMs, which most 4-cylinders need. Otherwise the turbo would stifle the engine and decrease power. And AWD isn't so great as when it takes off, the weight is sent to the back wheels, and some power is still going to the front wheels so there isn't the most power to the wheels with the most traction.
ok well first of all...10s are capable on a 20g turbo which is still a stock mitsu exhaust flange.2nd awd still send about 70 percent of the power to the front wheels. why are we talking about civics again???
Yes, if you put enough money into anything it will go fast. Hell, if I stripped my Caddy and put all the best racing equipment in it, I could probably run 10's on the stock motor.
If 70% of the power is going to the front wheels, and the car launches and most of the weight is put on the back wheels, then the car would be spinning the tires and not getting traction, hurting the quality of the launch. As far as I could tell, I wasn't talking about a civic.
Who really cares about making high horsepower with a 350, i mean everyone and their brother has one. Look at a 4g63 short block and ask yourself how can that make 1300hp? yeah you will be amazed.
Uh, 1300HP in a 4-cylinder? Pretty easy; overbore, new head, pistons, connecting rods, intake, and a huge turbo at 10,000 RPM with a big hit of nitrous should do it. Why don't you look at a 500CI V8 in a top fuel car and ask yourself; how do they make 8,000HP?
Launching AWD and holding 25 psi, all the while remaining fuel efficient, the 2.0L 4G63T is truly a magnificent engine! It's design has been used for over a decade, and remains true today. Imports are pimpin'.
dsms are the shit. 1500hpsupra, i have a lot of respect for supras but for you pay for them you can get a dsm and throw the same amount of money in each car and the dsm will out perform from a dig. yea the supra may win from a roll but it takes no skill. and for jf97eclipse 1g>2g.
Man, I don't even know what DSM stands for. But, I do know that if you put twin turbos and a new cam into a 350 small block or bigger, instead of a 2.2 liter engine, basically any car with that engine will outperform any foreign car. Don't get me wrong; I have lots of respect for imports, it's just that if you put the same amount of work into a car with more displacement, it will do better.
i totally agree with you. "there's no replacement for displacement" still holds true. but these cars do make extremely nice power. 200-250 hp per liter and on some of them and still streetable isn't something trivial.
You should find out what DSM is before you start putting down imports. DSM was a joint venture between Mitsu and Chrysler (Eagle Talon/Dodge Stealth). Their 2.0 engine just happens to be the most tunable 4 around - capable of +1000hp. Couple that with AWD and you've got one hell of a car. Anyone can make a V8 go fast on the straights. How does it do in the rain & snow? How well does it handle corners compared to an Evo? How you can call a 1700hp Viper a "daily driver" with a straight face, lol.
Because it still has the stock suspension, so it will still out handle any evo in the world. And, it's running low boost, as in 12-15 PSI, so it can still be driven on the street without massive lag. And any engine can be made to put out massive power. The real question is how long will it last? You could put a 4 cylinder engine on 90 PSI of boost and run it on race gas and at 15,000 RPM it might make 1000HP, but it would only last for about 20 minutes.
too bad an evo does handle better than a viper. you ever watch top gear doing laps around that track? you dont see the viper high up on that time chart w/ the other super cars, but the evo is. and what makes you think a viper weighs around 3000 lbs. if it did, a c6 zo6 wouldn't blow its doors off.
Manufacturer specs. The Viper is pretty high up on the list, especially for being wet. The evo I'm pretty sure is below it. The Z06 beat one of the best Porsche's too, so I have a feeling that a dead stock Z06 would beat the shit out of any DSM. A dead stock Z06 runs in the 11s with absolutely no mods at all.
Remember, that's Professionally Driven Z06. Ha-Ha, I doubt a regular DOOOODE who buys it can make it run in the 12's. Ha-Ha. I know many DSM's that can take out Z06's. Most people are just jealous of what a DSM can do, it's the truth. It's out there. So just live with it.
Anyone who can shift worth a damn and keep at least some traction could get the Corvette to run in the 11's. The professional drives the car in the low 11's. A normal guy could drive it in the high 11's. And a DSM with a normal driver, could go probably about 16's.
when racing either street strip, generally always above 4500 rpm anyways besides first, plus like lag said, for example, a evo3 16g turbo spools at 3200 rpm and can make a little over 400 hp. b4 i get burned, im not saying turbo is better, it is just more efficient. i like the fact taht i can have 400 hp and still maintain 4 cylinder gas milage, i get 28 mpg while pushing 320, it dont get any better!

there is nothing better then seeing the looks on ppls face as a 4 banger passes their V8!!!
turtlesdwp 4 years ago
yea, yea, 7 sec civics, how many of them? One? almost every single one DSM is a V8 killer.
jarekdsm 4 years ago
4G63T rules. Strongest 4 banger EVER built... including all other japanese motors too. =P I rather have reliability over 8k hp. LOL...8k.. like thats going to be daily drivable. all these are streetable cars. Nothing beats Japanese vehicles.
trdboi 4 years ago
I don't think that the six-second DSM is streetable either. The point was that top fuel cars run much faster on V8 engines than any four-cylinder car in the world.
crezzyman 4 years ago
It's streetable. Uni-body cars. Top fuel is what? It's not considered anything a daily driver would ever see. I see DSM's all the time. When you have Street Tires, compared to Top Fuel (BIG FAT SLICKS). It's two totally different classes. Get used to it, the title of this Video is DSM Power!
kellylo 4 years ago
Yeah, which they have none of. The six second car has no exhaust, a giant turbo, runs giant slicks, and runs on alcohol and over 60PSI of boost. Unibody doesn't mean anything. It just means that the car can't take as much power without a rollcage or subframe connectors. With imports, you'd need both if you were planning on making over 300HP. How many six second DSM's do you see on the street? There are seven-second V8 street cars in the world. Driving on the road! LEGALLY!!
crezzyman 4 years ago
dude, theres a civic that runs 7's.. you should really do your research..
pNOYjOSH 4 years ago
Yes, but does it have the stock engine? Is it able to be daily driven on the street? Does it run on normal pump gas? Because a 1700HP Dodge Viper can do all of those, and still probably beat it in the 1/4 mile.
crezzyman 4 years ago
at best 9xxhp... pump gas my ass! brent rau runs low 7s on the stock crank and no cylinder sleeves like most hondas. dodge viper 4k lb car and what is it 8.3 litres. not to mention the price
EightYourVtec 4 years ago
Dodge Viper weighs maybe 3000# at the most. It has a V10 engine making over 600HP- STOCK. A civic is making maybe 100 or so stock, and that's with the sport package. A viper can easily make WELL over 1000HP on pump gas using turbos. Jesus, a 350 SBC will do that and it's like 1/2 its size. So a twin turbo Viper could easily out-perform even the most hopped-up civic for several reasons. If you want to continue this, send me a message. Same for anyone else.

Also, did anyone notice how those cars launched really slow? It's because they have giant turbos so they can reach high peak HP. They might have 500-600HP, but they only have like 100-200ft-lbs of torque. And that's why muscle cars will always dominate the 1/4 mile.
crezzyman 5 years ago
dude they all wheel drive if they could launch like a back wheel drive then u should be scared
Etah2n 4 years ago
Or even better- the could just convert to RWD and have even better launches! Sorry, but FWD or AWD cars just aren't as good for drag racing or road course racing as RWD cars. Not to mention drifting....
crezzyman 4 years ago
giant turbos???i bet most of those cars have 20g turbos or smaller thats not big. as far as tq #s if its done right it should be a good powerband. Awd yields great 60ft times 1.8s bone stock. v8s can always be faster twice the motor+boost blah blah blah
EightYourVtec 4 years ago
To be making any sort of boost enough to get high HP out of a small-engined car you need big turbos. Same goes if you're looking for high RPMs, which most 4-cylinders need. Otherwise the turbo would stifle the engine and decrease power. And AWD isn't so great as when it takes off, the weight is sent to the back wheels, and some power is still going to the front wheels so there isn't the most power to the wheels with the most traction.
crezzyman 4 years ago
ok well first of all...10s are capable on a 20g turbo which is still a stock mitsu exhaust flange.2nd awd still send about 70 percent of the power to the front wheels. why are we talking about civics again???
EightYourVtec 4 years ago
Yes, if you put enough money into anything it will go fast. Hell, if I stripped my Caddy and put all the best racing equipment in it, I could probably run 10's on the stock motor.
If 70% of the power is going to the front wheels, and the car launches and most of the weight is put on the back wheels, then the car would be spinning the tires and not getting traction, hurting the quality of the launch. As far as I could tell, I wasn't talking about a civic.

Who really cares about making high horsepower with a 350, i mean everyone and their brother has one. Look at a 4g63 short block and ask yourself how can that make 1300hp? yeah you will be amazed.
dizzlecoltgt 5 years ago
Uh, 1300HP in a 4-cylinder? Pretty easy; overbore, new head, pistons, connecting rods, intake, and a huge turbo at 10,000 RPM with a big hit of nitrous should do it. Why don't you look at a 500CI V8 in a top fuel car and ask yourself; how do they make 8,000HP?
crezzyman 5 years ago
Launching AWD and holding 25 psi, all the while remaining fuel efficient, the 2.0L 4G63T is truly a magnificent engine! It's design has been used for over a decade, and remains true today. Imports are pimpin'.
puffcush 5 years ago
dsms are the shit. 1500hpsupra, i have a lot of respect for supras but for you pay for them you can get a dsm and throw the same amount of money in each car and the dsm will out perform from a dig. yea the supra may win from a roll but it takes no skill. and for jf97eclipse 1g>2g.
kdub9780 5 years ago
Man, I don't even know what DSM stands for. But, I do know that if you put twin turbos and a new cam into a 350 small block or bigger, instead of a 2.2 liter engine, basically any car with that engine will outperform any foreign car. Don't get me wrong; I have lots of respect for imports, it's just that if you put the same amount of work into a car with more displacement, it will do better.
crezzyman 5 years ago
i totally agree with you. "there's no replacement for displacement" still holds true. but these cars do make extremely nice power. 200-250 hp per liter and on some of them and still streetable isn't something trivial.
snoopyloopy 5 years ago
You should find out what DSM is before you start putting down imports. DSM was a joint venture between Mitsu and Chrysler (Eagle Talon/Dodge Stealth). Their 2.0 engine just happens to be the most tunable 4 around - capable of +1000hp. Couple that with AWD and you've got one hell of a car. Anyone can make a V8 go fast on the straights. How does it do in the rain & snow? How well does it handle corners compared to an Evo? How you can call a 1700hp Viper a "daily driver" with a straight face, lol.
gcxj220 4 years ago
Because it still has the stock suspension, so it will still out handle any evo in the world. And, it's running low boost, as in 12-15 PSI, so it can still be driven on the street without massive lag. And any engine can be made to put out massive power. The real question is how long will it last? You could put a 4 cylinder engine on 90 PSI of boost and run it on race gas and at 15,000 RPM it might make 1000HP, but it would only last for about 20 minutes.
crezzyman 4 years ago
too bad an evo does handle better than a viper. you ever watch top gear doing laps around that track? you dont see the viper high up on that time chart w/ the other super cars, but the evo is. and what makes you think a viper weighs around 3000 lbs. if it did, a c6 zo6 wouldn't blow its doors off.
BoneZugz 4 years ago
Manufacturer specs. The Viper is pretty high up on the list, especially for being wet. The evo I'm pretty sure is below it. The Z06 beat one of the best Porsche's too, so I have a feeling that a dead stock Z06 would beat the shit out of any DSM. A dead stock Z06 runs in the 11s with absolutely no mods at all.
crezzyman 4 years ago
Remember, that's Professionally Driven Z06. Ha-Ha, I doubt a regular DOOOODE who buys it can make it run in the 12's. Ha-Ha. I know many DSM's that can take out Z06's. Most people are just jealous of what a DSM can do, it's the truth. It's out there. So just live with it.
kellylo 4 years ago
Anyone who can shift worth a damn and keep at least some traction could get the Corvette to run in the 11's. The professional drives the car in the low 11's. A normal guy could drive it in the high 11's. And a DSM with a normal driver, could go probably about 16's.
