These people are rich and famous and have money to make themselves look perfect, media glorifies it too much because they fit society's beauty standards. This makes kids think that to be successful, they too must fit the standard. media rarely ever recognises people who REALLY work to make a difference in the world.

For example when "Single Ladies" came out a lot of parents agreed to not let their kids watch it; thinking it was a more than just a bit inappropriate. I think many parents are concerned but often are forced to put trying to keep a roof over their children's heads and food on the table a priority over proper parenting.
In addition, I am very comfortable with my body. I have great curves, many guys compare me to the aforementioned singer or Kim K. Still I don't see the need to walk around in skimpy outfits and show everyone everything my mother gave me. If I did people would call me a slut or a loose woman, but it seems to be totally okay for celebrities to do the same. Being comfortable does not equate to being flashy or trashy.

But when you are constantly getting oversexualized images from television, videos and everywhere else, and all of one's friends are watching them, it does influence you. It's called conditioning. Parents can say no and monitor what their kids watch, but still kids will sneak behind their backs and watch them @ friends, like Ms.CaretoShare's story because such celebs are what's "cool" at the moment.
As for Tina, she was slightly before my generation, but in general everyone can agree that videos and music are GREATLY more sexualized now than they were in Tina's heyday. There was nothing in Tina's day like what is seen on the VMAs today. Plus in Tina's day, there were no video phones, youtube, or internet. If parents didn't want kids to watch something they shut off the tv or tape deck. Now things are not that easy.

I think it's not about the personal choices Beyonce + others makes, like other people said she is an adult and can do whatever she wants. it's more of media overglorification. These people are rich and famous and have money to make themselves look perfect, media glorifies it too much because they fit society's beauty standards. This makes kids think that to be successful, they too must fit the standard. media rarely ever recognises people who REALLY work to make a difference in the world.

I just think she could be a better role model. I mean put some clothes on already, and stop teaching our young girls that the only way we women can make it is to strut around 1/2 naked in our videos or on stage. For example when "Single Ladies" came out a lot of parents agreed to not let their kids watch it; thinking it was a more than just a bit inappropriate. I think many parents are concerned but often are forced to put trying to keep a roof over their children's heads and food on the table a priority over proper parenting.

In addition, I am very comfortable with my body. I have great curves, many guys compare me to the aforementioned singer or Kim K. Still I don't see the need to walk around in skimpy outfits and show everyone everything my mother gave me. If I did people would call me a slut or a loose woman, but it seems to be totally okay for celebrities to do the same. Being comfortable does not equate to being flashy or trashy.

I limit my kids access to media so I dont know how she could have heard that. She had seen that Bey vid on a kids cell phone @ school. I was appalled and told her never to sing it again. A "role model" who sing about Divas being female 'hustlas' is never allowed in my house. But I cant watch my kid and what they watch 24/7. Artists should clean up their act.

Parents are not looking to these celebs to parent their children. But when you are constantly getting oversexualized images from television, videos and everywhere else, and all of one's friends are watching them, it does influence you. It's called conditioning. Parents can say no and monitor what their kids watch, but still kids will sneak behind their backs and watch them @ friends, like Ms.CaretoShare's story because such celebs are what's "cool" at the moment.

As for Tina, she was slightly before my generation, but in general everyone can agree that videos and music are GREATLY more sexualized now than they were in Tina's heyday. There was nothing in Tina's day like what is seen on the VMAs today. Plus in Tina's day, there were no video phones, youtube, or internet. If parents didn't want kids to watch something they shut off the tv or tape deck. Now things are not that easy.

As a curvy woman myself, there is a HUGE amount of difference of the negative attention I would get if I wear shorts that stop slightly above my knees or stop to where my butt hangs out.
