Yes the Music is Latvian, and the lyrics are Russian, and it's about a Georgian painter, but for those who always like to say this is from this country or that other country ect, ect. Don't forget that when this song was written and Recorded Originally by Alla it was only One Nation...The Soviet Union, so i guess this is technically a Soviet Song!!!
Although I think you may have a point, this is an originally Latvian song, written by a Latvian composer and Latvian poet, and - yes - during Soviet times. Here is the original.
Pugachyeva, Reznik made this Latvian song immortal.
This song is in Russian, written by a Latvian composer Raimond Pauls and it is based on a beautiful, TRUE story of love, which really happened in Tbilisi, Georgia. The name of the artist was Niko Pirosmani and the actresses' name was Margarita. When Raimond Pauls visited Tbilisi with Alla Pugacheva, someone told them this story during their walk in romantic Old Tbilisi - a historic part of town. Raimond Pauls was so moved by it, that soon after, he wrote this song. Translated in 8 languages.
Georgia The Beatiful, I think I owe you an appology my friend, but I was told by a friend of mine who is a latvian that this song was a Latvian, but maybe I missunderstood her and like you said the composer was Mr Raimond Pauls, but there is one thing we all agree on is Alla is a great songer and I love her so much.
wonderful I just discover this, why did this not hit the big time in the western world, this song and singer are just so great ,thank you for posting it
you are wright. I am from bulgaria where we have kind of Alla's version a woman called Lili Ivanova. She is like 999999 years old and still wears short skirts... uuui
Walski - BRAVO na Lili - who said that older beautiful women like Lili can not wear short skirts? BTW Alla and Lili have the most amazing voices ever - just check out how many people are STILL on their concerts!!!

- original Latvian song. On YouTube.

@mikhaildrabkin The original was sung by Larisa Mondrus. But Aja Kukule's rendition is the best. Much better than Pugacheva's version in Russian

Her voice was damaged due to Chernobil! Also, when she had that plastic surgery incident; she was intubated and it damaged her voice box!
She is still the BEST!

This is the second part of the song, I ran out of space...:)
To meet the actress, the artist sold all he had
And bought million roses
Her met her, the meeting was short
At night, a train took her away
And what was left, was a square full of flowers
Chorus
.......
Enjoy!

25 years I have been searching for this song. Thank you for posting it. Can anyone translate the lyrics in English? Greeting from Montreal.

Let's see...
..There lived a lonely artist
He had an straw house
But he loved an actress
The one who loved the flowers
Chorus
Million Million of Red Roses
That you see from you window
Those who are seriously in love
Will turn their life for you into flowers...
