I, Tim Amyx, Tam high class of 1977, posted this interview of Mr Sherman. I had him as my US History teacher during my senior year, 1976 - 1977. He changed my life in all too many ways. Thanks to him I became not only interested in "history", but started to enjoy reading and studying. I eventually finished college and often thought of his class and his teaching methods.
This video clip was from a 1987 interview I did with him, while producing a reunion video for our class 10 year reunion.
I love Mr. Sherman. He made history come alive. But one of my fondest memories was an earthquake during one of his lectures. He was so into his lectures that we were all under our desks while the windows were shaking and he just kept on talking and didn't stop until it was over. We kept yelling at him, "earthquake", Then he went for cover. It was classic!!
In my 4 years at Tam, there were a handful of teachers who really cared about the student, and Mr. Sherman was at the Top of the list. He use to swing around the pole that supported ceiling while bringing to life some Civil War battle. He was a great teacher!
Mr. Sherman was an amazing history teacher - one of the few high school lecturers. He was most famous for his "end of the Civil War" lecture - I wish I could find a recording of it!

Mr. Sherman was a fantastic teacher and a real human being. He would break down when lecturing about the Civil War.
