Chris Cain knows the art of telling a story in his solo's. By changing his sound while playing he adds a lot of excitement to his notes. Sometimes it's like two people quarreling, like Gollem versus Smeagol. Briljant guy.
On my 60th birthday I had the woman I was dating go to see Chris with me at the Little Fox. This is a great place to hear live music. It's not a Blue's Bar like the Saloon, but it's got a good crowd and decent acoustics. Chris is a master guitarist. Simple. He is never discussed with the other greats, but he is really in their league. He plays all over but is based in San Jose. If you have a chance to see him, do it!
first time i heard chris cain on some mp3's on the internet some years back,i was like wow!!!!,this man has some SERIOUS CHOPS!.he is VERY tasteful.using also jazz touches within the blues if he needs to.
Guitar straight into the amp is the best way for a true tone. Trying to figure out what gauge strings he plays - that bit where he bends the pitch up by pressing the dead string between the bridge and tailstop - that's a hell of a tension there, he must be using pretty light strings or he has fingers of steel!
Chris is the Man.. Chatted with him at Larry Blakes in Berkeley years ago when a friend was a bartender there. Just saw him twice in Antioch,Ca.. blues fest last year and then a couple months ago.. Nice guy and so much feel to his playing and his chops are great! Funny guy too.

There's a reason the Ford brothers consider Chris the best.

Wow, this guy is amazing, there's a lot of good blues players around and it's great to see someone who does something a bit out of the ordinary.

Wow, what PURE tone and superb feel. Crystal clear Gibson ES-335 tone. I love this type of sound above any over processed guitar tones.

What amp is he using there?
ronpurser 2 years ago
It's an old MusicMan amp, not sure what year but I've never seen him use anything else. He cranks that little thang!
Timology84 2 years ago
He used a Mesa/boogie. I remember he would crank all the eq sliders to the top cuz that's the way he liked it.

The bass player is DeWayne Pate. He's a monster. One of the best.. Played with Robben Ford too.
