Not really. I am a German native. But got naturalized two days before my birthday in 1996. It was the proudest day of my life. I love America. I have prepared throughout the years. But still, I could knock the next wall out to our supply room, cause I am running out of shelves. My partner is going into retirement . Now there will be less money avaiable to us. With the way our politicians run us into ruins, we are looking for some tough times.
This is great! I use to be in the moving industry and went into many homes that were stocked with emergency supplies. It makes sense and the more people do it the less burden there will be on those that have the supply. If you do not do your best to prepare now you should not go to those that have it when the time comes. Just plain lazy and selfish!
Thank you for spreading the word on YouTube. :0) One concern I have is will the government steal the food like during the civil war?
Thank you for breaking down such an overwhelming subject! I appreciated the practical tips from experienced preppers with children and being able to take the tour to see one way of organizing a deep pantry.
I've always kept food stores and survival equiptment in case of an emergency. My mother keeps telling me I need to be prepared to help others - but I'm not sure how to feed the world. I'd prefer that everyone try to do what they can - so there are more people prepared than beggers in that scenerio. I'm not a mormon... but I certainly appreciate these people planning ahead.

Some storage might be useful in advance, but 1 year's worth (I've heard Mormons have to have 1 year's worth)) is ridiculous. Besides, try telling that to non-Americans who don't live in big homes as the Americans---many people outside the US live in smaller places that clearly make it impossible to store away massive amounts---1 year's worth of food. This is so typical American advice.
Mormons are some of the nicest, most thrifty and helpful people. And they don't just help themselves but help peoples worldwide, in places your spoiled butt couldn't even imagine.
this is cool but is their ever to much? im new to the idea but i like saving money so all the stuff in storage was on sale when you buy it and stock up when it is on sale im going to be building my house soon and changing things around so i will have a food storage place is their any way of know how much space you would need for two adults and a child. thanks for all the information i look forward to hearing from ya
Is there a way to build one with a Do-It-Yourself home project? Would be nice to be able to get water from the ocean in case of hurricane or coastal flooding, like Katrina or Haiti.
Visit providentliving, org and click the "Locations" link at the top of the screen to find the nearest Home Storage Center (Mormon dry pack cannery) to you. I would recommend calling them first to make sure they will be there. Visit maps.lds, org to find the nearest congregation with contact info if you want to find a Mormon (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) congregation where you will find friends ready to help you with your food storage questions, etc.
You don't have to be Mormon to use the church's cannery facilities. Call a local congregation for information. You can "dry pack" dry goods (wheat, flour, sugar, drink mix, pasta, etc.) in #10 cans there for cheap. Church members are happy to share their facilities and give you advice if you need it. :-)
@ameetpinto I don't think they "removed" the labels from the cans. I am pretty sure they canned that food themselves with their own canner machine (I just saw another utube video showing someone using a metal canner to can dried milk) or went to a canning facility to have whatever they foods they choose to be canned for them.
Remember people the best thing about honey is that if stored in a sealed container it will last for thousands of years. Recently a sealed jar was found in Egypt that was full of honey and it was still good and was actually eaten by the people who found it. i just wish all foods could be stored like that. Also one more thing there is no such thing as too much water, I live in the desert and we store right around 2000 gallons of water that is rotated for the whole house to use for everything.
I just wish that I could utilize my LDS cannery near by but I am not Mormon and I Dont know anyone to go with. I dont see that as a good practice, b/c I thought helping people from all walks of life was the way to live.
I can not believe how much food you have I have tought hurricane /disaster kits of making sure of having food until normalize comes back after Hurricane Andrew it took over a year of no jobs no income no food for many people in Homestead Florida 1992
America did this in the 1950s, during the nuclear scares. The last two generations have been taught its OK to be lazy, so only the military among us know the value of preparedness.
Simply start with the foods you like. If you like beans buy 25lb. bags of dry beans. If you like rice buy a few bags of rice. Buy what you will eat and eat what you store. Do not store foods you will never eat.

I've looked into reverse osmosis desalination, to pump fresh water from sea water and the ocean.

mormon women - make sure you're well armed too - otherwise you're just storing food for the people who are and not yourselves and your loved ones
