If it was 20 million light years away, it would take 20 million years for the message to GET there, and since it's impossible to travel faster then the speed of light, or to even reach it, it would probably take like, 25 million years or something for them to even reach earth.

And to send a message they would probably not use light, so it would take many times more than 20,000,000 years to reach them. So their message would reach them in way over 40,000,000 years. Then the aliens (probably extinct) would have to get to Earth.
