Your professor is right. Just about every Neoconservative thinks we should bomb Iran before they complete their nuclear facility, which is just insane. Iran is acting defensively. They have the U.S. surrounding both sides of their borders occupying countries and Israel has over 200 nuclear weapons. It is only natural Iran is going to want to defend itself but they will never actually use them because they know they will be toast if they ever did. Just more fearmongering from the Neocons
@rmccay88 The president of Israel has never repeatedly threatened to wash any other nation's capital in a "sea of fire" for not accepting Moses. There's a clear difference between Israel and Iran in terms of which is more dangerous to world peace when in possession of nuclear weapons.
The world sees it the opposite. There was a good lengthy poll in 2006 by Pew Global Attitudes Project that polled 17,000 people in 15 different countries. Those countries view the United States as a bigger threat to world peace than Iran. Iran is a third world country that is not a danger to the world, don't buy into the fearmongering. The Soviets wanted to "wipe us off the map" too and they had 40,000.
@rmccay88 The vast majority of those people believe in some sort of god as well. Doesn't make it any more true. You can look at polls or you can look at reason and evidence. Clearly one nation is more dangerous than the other.
You have watched O'Reilly one too many times. You are correct in saying one nation is more dangerous, and nations view that country as us as a result of what we have done over there. Countries look and see we have killed hundreds of thousands of citizens and they feel threatened that if they don't go along with what we want, we will bomb them. Our foreign policy of preemptive war and invading and occupying countries has a blowback principle. You will come around one day.
@rmccay88 I disagree, I think you'll come around one day. The modern American armed forces do not explicitly target civilians, whereas the Islamic nations do. There's a difference in the way each side conducts its warfare. America and Israel do not send soldiers in civilian clothes with bombs strapped to themselves into crowded markets.
When we kill civilians, it is by unfortunate accident. When they kill civilians it is a great success worthy of celebration. Our goal is to eradicate this.
