Thanx for ul this video... in Germany... and in all other countries of Europe it's difficult to get those clips... Youtube is a miracle of technology!
The clarity of the voices--no stupid/insipid moaning and groaning of so many of the girl singers of today. Even the retor sound of some of the current singers don't quite evoke the sound. Maybe ii's the back-up sounds as much as anything. Whatever--just fantastic. Youtube is a miracle of technology!
This song is so great, I love this group. And I very much prefer this version the The Chiffons, although I do still like that one. But there's something about this one that's just a bit sweeter. :)
No. The Chiffons originally recorded this song in the fall of 1963 (#36, Pop). It was the song playing on a Dallas radio station when the news broke of JFK's assassination.
Although this is not a Phil Specter "wall of sound" production, it could very easily pass for such due to the effective orchestra arrangement , echo, and harmonizing so typical of early 60's music produced by Specter. In my opinion, this version is vastly superior to the Chiffons' recording. Had this been released first in 1963, it would be the one we remember today..

The reason this song could have been produced by Phil Spector is because the song was penned by Ellie Greenwich (RIP) and Jeff Barry.

I love both versions---the 1963 original by the Chiffons and this by Reparata and the Delrons from 1965.
