@kumika123 No major changes? You clearly did not watch the cartoon, there were MASSIVE changes. The names were pronounced wrong, firebenders would need a source of fire, characters personality all gone, the bending was all wrong and slow, and not even one character was played by an actor from the same. And most of them look NOTHING like their animated versions. Especially Katar, Sokka, Zuko, Gyatso and many more. So stop trying to defend Shyamalan, his days as a super-director are over now.
If you didn't come here just to write insults, and you actually listen to what Night's saying, it's obvious that he actually DOES understand the show. He also said that it was a two hour movie (which didn't happen thanks to Paramount), and everyone involved (including the creators) was excited about the movie until the final product was released. So I think that the half-hour or so that was cut by Paramount would have made the movie much much better. (Daredevil/Kingdom of Heaven, anyone?)

This was a great movie. One of the best I've seen in a while. Shyamalan is better than Spielberg and Scorsese combined.

@TheAce187 It's because he didn't watch the goddamn show at all, doesn't anyone get this? He knew his daughter watched it, he skimmed over the story somewhere (maybe Wikipedia or something) and saw it had a huge fanbase.
He simply saw an opportunity to make some easy money, and it worked because lots of people went to see it at release.
It's the only way he could've got the casting, pronunciation, characters, etc so goddamn wrong. There is no other way to explain it.

Great interview! Loved The Last Airbender! great martial arts scenes. I would love to see M. Night do a movie based on a young Mr. Miyagi from Karate Kid. His childhood, how he learned Karate, his wife,and time at war. Anyone else think that would be a good movie? I think it would be huge, if done well. I think M. Night would do a crazy job of it.

@kumika123 No major changes? You clearly did not watch the cartoon, there were MASSIVE changes. The names were pronounced wrong, firebenders would need a source of fire, characters personality all gone, the bending was all wrong and slow, and not even one character was played by an actor from the same. And most of them look NOTHING like their animated versions. Especially Katar, Sokka, Zuko, Gyatso and many more. So stop trying to defend Shyamalan, his days as a super-director are over now.

If you didn't come here just to write insults, and you actually listen to what Night's saying, it's obvious that he actually DOES understand the show. He also said that it was a two hour movie (which didn't happen thanks to Paramount), and everyone involved (including the creators) was excited about the movie until the final product was released. So I think that the half-hour or so that was cut by Paramount would have made the movie much much better. (Daredevil/Kingdom of Heaven, anyone?)

(sorry for more ranting :P ) Nickelodeon should have maybe clued him in that the pronunciation of "Aang" is fine the way it is, and also that Aang is supposed to be like 12 ..... so why is the Aang in the movie so serious?! maybe he should've taken a note from the tv show and made Aang crack a smile .... at least once! it's a load of crap, Aang is a good character cuz he's a normal 12 year old trying to deal with responsibility; so he understands his job, but he's still kinda immature!

he totally killed Avatar, i haven't even seen the movie because all my friends and all of the critics for the movie said that it was awful. he changed something awesome into crap, they probably won't make a movie for Book 2: Earth, and that makes me angry cuz Toph is my favorite character and she won't even exist. They should've stayed completely with the storyline for the tv show. i understand that there are certain things that can't be done, but that doesn't give any excuse for the movie

Dear all angst kiddo, the story had developed into a general audiences from a cartoon series which only the kiddo world would know into a well make movie epic. Now, I cannot wait to watch the rest of the trilogy and the soundtrack was uplifting. You do not want the fav cartoon series turn into Spy Kids 3D or G-Force or Cats vs Dogs movie or even another Narnia. Now, must get the cartoon series too for myself.

Can someone PLEASE tell me how he managed to fuck this movie up? I mean understand that he was trying to put what like 3 or 4 seasons into 2 hours which is a difficult thing to do with anything.. But thats why he should of been creative creating a sub story THERE WAS PLENTY TO WORK WITH! This show was overflowing with creative options!
