  • Robert Reich is one of the smartest mind in the US; that maybe one of the main reasons why he is not heard.

  • Something about this guy I don't trust.

  • Ladies and gentlemen, please consider what I have to say.

    a) Prisoners have better healthcare than the rest of us

    b) Your Congress people and Senators have better healthcare than all of us.

Why do 'We the People' believe that our healthcare must be less than the prison and Government populations.'

Either way you cut it, our tax dollars pay for their healthcare, but yet we must mope about paying for the most expensive medical procedures. Think about it.

  • @pluto4847 Good point

  • @curingaging00

Exactly so why are so many people think we the people should have crappy healthcare, yet Prisoners or Politicians get better healthcare by our taxes? Why?

  • @pluto4847 Because people don't realize that Prisoners for the most part have excellent healthcare is one of the reasons. Many opponents to the public option argue that it would be too expensive, that it would Bankrupt America, well then why don't we put the Offence military budget on a diet, why are we need 700+ military bases on 137 different countries? it cost hundreds of billions every year to maintain them.

  • @pluto4847 In the past, opponents, mainly dishonest Senators like to distort the facts and call it a "Government Take Over"

No the Public Option this is just an option. No one would be forced to take the option. Unfortunately Obama left the Public Option out, despite the fact that the majority of Americans support having that part of the bill in.

Now correct me if I'm wrong, but the current healthcare bill Requires By Law individuals to Purchase health insurance.

  • @curingaging00

You are correct, the law will require everybody to purchase health insurance.

I wish the public option was in the bill. Do you think it ever will?

  • @pluto4847 Thanks to Obama for leaving it out, it is unlikely that the bill will be implanted and would replace the unfortunate and more con-traversal less effective Mandate. Without any serious push for such an idea, to replace the individual mandate with the public option I don't think it will happen soon. The only thing we can do now is be more cautious of who we vote for to represent us, and to continue to pressure our senators and president for a public option.

  • this guy is anti capitalist .

  • There is no free market in health insurance. Even if there was there's no free market in money. We can not receive good health care with bureaucrats in charge and legal tender laws enforced at gun point.

  • The very definition of a useful idiot.

  • Lets do the Hong Kong model!

build State owned Public Hospitals (Mainly ER'S) that are free.

and City owned health centers. that give free cancer and other lethal disease check ups for free

then once we have enough of these we can deregulate the private medical companies.

  • Now please look for "The Truth About Robert Reich "

  • What left wing propaganda... right from 45 communis goals in Congressional Record. You people are being brainwashed!

  • @Quanuck You say Communism like it's a bad thing.

  • Reich is a coercive little dwarf freak. Just endless marxist nonsense from a complete doofus.

  • The only way to change all of this is to change our consumer society. The global depression is forcing millions to get by on less. Yet, millions of others continue to rack up debt. This in turn keeps the corporations happy and in control.

Part of the problem is that very few are willing to commit to a sustained activist effort to change the economic structure. The CEO's know this and are counting on your apathy to keep them rich.

  • Keep this in mind. Those that want to destroy Obama and all of his programs (including health care) already have universal health care.

Not one of them has publically said I'll drop my universal coverage and go to commercial like the public does. Why? Because they have the bizarre idea that they're better than you are. Therefore, they're ENTITLED to the best money can buy.

  • super video wer will mit mir ausgehen

  • Why this midget hasn't been taken care of after his anti-Caucasian remark a while back is a mystery to me. He should live with Ted Koppel on another planet in another galaxy due to their hate for Caucasians. But these are the times we live in, racist bastards and bitches in the media and in government spewing out their hate for "white people" while they live in a world where their millions of dollars afford them all the finest comforts and luxuries Caucasians have invented ... while we get hate.

  • I don't like how the Reich is saying the other side is trying to scare the public into thinking this is a bad thing.... and then he proceeds to attempt to scare the public into mobilizing against those who disagree: "flawed system that EVERYONE hate", "Plenty of money and political partisans to do their DIRTY WORK", "SHOULDN'T be allowed to do this anymore". These are scare tactics as well.

  • If a public option were introduced a vast amount of private businesses would then dispose of their health care benefits to save money for employees because there is a "free" alternative. Once that happens government would have almost complete control in the health care industry.

Also, the public option does not stimulate competition because it is run by government thus funded by tax dollars. People who think it does do not understand the difference between private vs. public sector business.

  • inequality in America is represented completely by Reich who holds priveledged status as a member of a group and who's admin ratified NAFTA that cost the USA no less than 8 million jobs that are gone forever.

A racist, bigoted imbecile like Reich is not going to give anyone solutions and what work is left in the USA? The majority of top of the line professionals have taken at least a 20% pay cut or more. No one is left to afford the services.

Reich cost the USA dearly just like he said he wud

  • Yes the gov is setting the price! Please don't be ignorant.Proverty level is at 14,000 year now (I think it is about that)? So someone making 19,000 a year has to Pay for it, when thier employers can't provide. The Gov should not be given this much power to decide that a Hard Working American needs to purchase Health Care.Either give us a full GuarenteedHealthPlan for ALL citizens or none at all!! This will also force job loss when Employers have to keep under 50 employees to deter the fine

  • The rising inequality in America has created two separate classes and societies. The class that is not getting a slice of the pie has become angry (understandably) and are now looking for a scape goat. Luckily Fox News and the like has supplied them with many.

  • @TyroneTasty Aren't people mainly responsible for how their own life turns out?? I mean, if you work hard and don't make too many dumb decisions.....you too can live a good life. Or, is it Big Brothers job to make up for peoples lowly lot in life, give them cars and condos......oh yeah, don't forget the Baby Momma Payments.

  • @tickyul I don't think anyone expects the government to give them condos and cars. You can barely feed a family of four with unemployment benefits let alone buy anything outside the most basic needs. The inequality of America isn't about people who simply don't try, I'm talking about hardworking Americans who despite all their hard work are still struggling to get by and even going bankrupt because of health care.

  • @TyroneTasty Well, this country provides equality of opportunity, that does not mean you will succeed, just that you have a chance to. And the Demorats want more dough for Big Brothers coffers.......why, to start more worthless, failed programs that encourages the average Ameritard to step in line for more bennies. The genesis of the current recession started with the EXPLOSION OF THE HOUSING BUBBLE, people not paying their mortgages, that is the homeowners fault alone.

  • this bigot?

the guy who hates white male construction workers?

    this guy is scum.

  • @biozamadotcom "if construction jobs go mainly to white males who already dominate the construction trades, many people who need jobs the most -- women, minorities, and the poor and long-term unemployed -- will be shut out." He never said to restrict them from funds. The operative word being MAINLY. It's right there, plain as day. You should watch his speech on inequality in America. He talks all about this fear mongering that has taken hold since America's inequality has grown over the years.

  • this piece of racist trash Reich is really one to talk.

I mean, it's not like his little tribe control all of media, banking, academia, publishing and others things. No diversity there, but no one is really brave enough to speak about it.

There was no misunderstanding, Reich and Rangel openly conspired against the white American worker. We now see that plan occurred.

  • @biozamadotcom Watch his BC Berkley speech on Inequality in America. This man worked to raise the minimum wage. I don't see how you could get more populist than that. He does not control anything. He's a individual entity who writes and is a professor. He owns no publishing companies or news corporations. He could have been a lobbyist after Clinton, instead, thankfully, he is a professor.

  • @TyroneTasty

I've seen Reich's speech on NOT hiring white workers. Looking at unemployment, Reich and Rangel's racism succeeded.

Whether it's Reich, Dershowitz, Ignatiev, Bernanke, Greenspan, Emanuels or others, there is very little diversity in media, banking and in publishing and academia.

Reich has NEVER addressed that most obvious inequality. He's a hypocrite and should be brushed aside as useless and worthless.

  • @biozamadotcom He has. There is a video of a speech he gave on the subject five years ago, it's quite prophetic in many ways. Reich did not want to restrict money to white construction workers, he was only concerned that most of the construction workers wouldn't receive their fair share. A completely moral stance, I'm sure you would agree.

  • @TyroneTasty

Reich takes the same bigoted stance as those at the Fed, in banking, in publishing, in the media, and in academia. People are reading other sources now and learning the truth about Reich and his bigoted gang like Dershowitz, Ignatiev, the Emanuels and others.

i recently read Nathanael Kapner and learned a ton about Reich and his bigotry and hatred. Reich didn't want Americans having jobs, 5 years later, he got his hateful way

  • @biozamadotcom Nathanael Kapner. You're essentially accepting one opinion over another here. Kapner has his beliefs and you've accepted them as yours, of course what he says sounds good to you. The matter he speaks of about Jewish control of media is missing the point, the real issue is the social and economic inequality in this country, which Reich has done more for than simply finding scapegoats. Inequality is what you should be upset about. Scapegoating only blinds people to the real problem.

  • @TyroneTasty

Nathanael Kapner has never been refuted factually. You nor Reich can do it.

Inequality exists in banking, media, politics, publishing, etc. by Reich and his cartel. Reich is all about inequality, in fact, he's about monopoly.

Again, Nathanael Kapner has never been refuted factually and Reich is afraid of this truth. Reich is a bigot.

  • @biozamadotcom Reich gave an hour speech on the importance of equality in America, not to mention wrote an entire book on it. How does this help him maintain a monopoly at all? It just seems far fetched he'd go so far, when his TRUE intention is monopoly. Division, fear, and strife in America, more than anything, is what would most help those in power, as it weakens the people and separates them into manageable, distrusting sections. Tea Party for example.

  • @TyroneTasty Reich likes to hear his hateful mouth speak and so did the Bolsheviks like Lenin, Stalin and others. If Reich was for equality, he'd address the monopoly his gang has on media, publishing, banking, the Fed and other institutions. Reich never addresses this inequality. Instead, Reich scapegoats white construction workers out of a very real bigotry that Nathanael Kapner addresses and that Reich shall never refute and neither shall you because it is the truth. btw, Obama is his goat.

  • @biozamadotcom The Bolsheviks rose up out of extreme social inequality because of an oppressive autocratic rule. You're against monopoly but support autocratic rule? You can't really compare Reich's plea for higher wages and more money for those who need it more to the Bolshevik revolution. Exaggeration. If not for the Boshevik's Russia would still be an autocratic state. They could have saved Russia with reform, but Nicholas the II was too in love with old methods that had grown outdated.

  • @TyroneTasty One can look at the shabby state of CA and notice that Reich, Feinstein, Boxer and the rest of his gang are not doing a very good job. Reich intentionally singles out white male construction workers as a target for his bigotry and they now know he got his racist way. What is "equality?" Is Lebron James equal to you in basketball? Where is the equality at the Fed, banking, media, publishing and others that Reich's gang control addressed by Nathanael Kapner?

  • @biozamadotcom understand anger, but why at this guy? He's proposing solutions. Frankly, I'm really surprised there isn't more anger at corporate America -- mightn't they be responsible for the mess our country is in? I mean, I'm not even saying this is right, just hoping for some reasonable posts...

  • @biozamadotcom Bamster has been in office for almost 2 years now, you should be used to it, it will just get worse.

  • LOL. Reich, how pathetic. Playing on political card for two thirds of the video instead of explaining economics. You get two options because state prohibits competition. What a muppet.

  • @TBow009 Did Glenn Beck tell you that?

  • Public Option= Single Payer

    Single Payer= Rationing

    Rationing= Death Panels

    Its that simple!!

Thank God there was no Public Option!!

  • Did the public option go through in the US or was it killed? I no longer live there and I was hoping it's been made available, or will be in some form, to Americans. It seems like it hasn't happened. These things have to be fought for, and you have to make the government scared of you as a people, the servant and not the master. That's how it works.

  • @Neanderthalcouzin The public option didnt go through because a few democrats rejected that part of the reform but the bill its self might not last to longer if the republicans get back control of both the house or the senate

  • Oh ... the health care debate is over and now no one talks about this anymore.

Too bad ... hey ... how do we get the health care debate started up again,

whatever they did was nothing, it was not enough, and it's more baloney.

  • Robert B. Reich is a ASS CLOWN with a Short Guy fast talk, thinking He is better than anyone reading this. This Man is the Jackass in Democrat. If you believe this Little Person I have some Shit to sell you, I mean some good stuff.

  • this guys an ass

  • Anyone who even mentions the word "socialist" on this page obviously doesn't know what it means. Socialism isn't killing Democracy, Capitalism is, and it's been doing it long before Obama showed up.

  • Anyone else notice the author moved the fact based comments I made, kinda like what cnn, msnbc, abc, and nbc does when it comes to anything critical of obama. The author in this instance, is just as much a socialist as the president himself. When facts are produced to make there agenda more difficult, they have to sensor them.

  • @grunt11b Hey, do not rock the boat. Remember Animal Farm, all animals are equal, But' some are more equal than others. Welcome to a the United States Of Ameritard.

  • Another socialist pushing the socialist agenda.

  • Taiwan and Singapore has best medical care system in the world, 99% coverage, high quality, and they are government run. Learn from the Smart Chinese!!!

Do some research other than Canada and Brits. It's time to learn from the East. China a so Called communist country is now USA's Banker. LOL!

  • How do you know, you have anything done there? Another American hating socialist. Without America, the rest of the world economy falls, you dumb ass, think about it and think about what you are rooting for.

  • @noformstyle Well, for now we have the changes that Obama put in place, more mandates and regulations. Guess what, that is not going to lower the average persons premiums, well I guess we are becoming very aware of that fact now.

  • LOL--a real world Wesley Mouch

  • His comments in the video are highly partisan. Get your competitive kicks supporting your favorite sports team, and stop letting partisan hacks divide you. There is no solution that is good for all Republicans and bad for all Democrats. The reverse is also true. Less demand and more supply is what lowers prices. We need more doctors, more nurses, better lifestyle approaches. Break out of this shameful Democrat/Republican gulag!!

  • Most on the right are suspicious because they know that simple changes in law can do the same thing, yet this approach is not attempted.

Democrats have vast majorities in many states, yet their insurance commissioners are not changing anything either. Republicans did not change anything when they held majorities. File anti-trust suits. Break down state restrictions. Force ins. companies to have standard packages that are identical company to company so we can get competitive quotes.

  • @hildalgo1 You are right on feller, many things that could be done to bring down costs and make HC more efficient........will never see the light of day. Too much special interests on BOTH sides of the aisle, this country is doomed.

  • "Lieberman needs to be curtailed. See to it, will you Bond?"

    "He's worse than Blofeld, sir."

"Yes, Bond. Some of these corporate people in America are the New Evil."

  • Just another Berkeley Propeller Head spewing theory. Public Insurance does not work in the real world it is a path to Bankruptcy. Christine Romer another Berkeley academic now running Obama's economic council, how is she doing in the real world with the Stimulus etc., Utter failure!!

Call a Canadian doctor and see what he/she says about public insurance. The only criteria it meets is getting everyone insured, the real world tells us costs increase and heath care gets rationed.

  • I guess France, Japan, Spain, Norway and a dozen others aren't a part of the real world. The American Journal of Public Health estimates 45,000 Americans die each year due to insufficient health care. What kind of developed nation are we?

And btw, Time Magazine called Robert Reich one of the most Influential Cabinet Members of This Century; One of the Top Ten Business Thinkers according to the WSJl. I suggest you read his blog some time so you don't sound so misinformed&incoherent.

  • @Berryjiveuptown5

We need a public option. I never support big business. In fact, I most often support small business because they are more trustworthy and more human.

I used to follow the Status Quo, always believed everything they told me. It got me nowhere in life.

Now I am going my own direction. I now own a home, have two jobs, and I buy and sell precious metals.

The Status quo wants us to fail.

If we can have community colleges, public schools, we deserve public option.

  • @Berryjiveuptown5 but the thing is Math is my side, and all thos health care are going out of business and are using technoligy subsidize by america, check and mate!

  • @sunnyvegas702 How is math your side? Without facts or figures, your side appears to be little more than bad grammar and horrible spelling.

  • @Berryjiveuptown5 Math is on my side economically, the goal is to provide the best healthcare at the lowest price , you can only do that by allowing everyone to compete. Be able to buy healthcare across state lines, its stupid that only big corps tend to have nice health insurance because they employ alot of ppl, now ppl work at shitty corp jobs not because they like it but because of benefits, stop forcing the employer and have a free market solution to this. Thats why math is on my side.

  • @sunnyvegas702

Thats your problem. Economic equations don't exist. They ignore human action.

  • @Salvysahagun What do you mean, you can't do price control, if people are going to work it will be under their terms, you can't control that, it's not like you can make a law doctors will work for $1/Hr ppl will just quit so you have no choice but to let them work.

  • @sunnyvegas702

Let the market decide what the doctors work is worth

Every industry the government doesn't get its dirty hands on are thriving.

Do you recall when the phone lines where nationalized? Ever since privatization of the phone industry telecommunications has boomed.

  • @Salvysahagun Thats what I was saying

  • @sunnyvegas702

    With out equations

  • @sunnyvegas702

There actually are public options out there. They are called 'Community healthcare clinics.'

Community clinics are federally and publically funded.

They charge their patients on the basis of income and family size.

I know of a clinic that charged its patients a minimal of $15 per visit, including blood tests. Its hard to describe in words so I'll send you a video.

  • @pluto4847 i dont doubt that but you have to give service based on ability to pay. Heres how it works, if you want an hour of your time to be equal of that to a doctor's time then you have to have a skill that takes 10 years to get, like him. See an economy is just trading products and services but if you have no products to trade then money is useless, cash is just a way of giving credit back and forth to each other so we can trade products and services. get it?

  • @sunnyvegas702

The Community doctor I know is ok with providing treatment to people on low incomes. He'll make just a little less than a Privbate doctor, but he will actually keep more of his money.

    This is why?

The Fed pays all the community doctor's malpractice insurances, but if you are a private doctor you'll have to charge a little extra to each patient just to afford his malpractice insurance.

  • @sunnyvegas702

But seervices like publiv schhols, grabage, fire and police practice are FEderally and State funded too.

I mean if you like paying expensdive medical bills, nobody is stopping you from being ripped off from Insurance companies. If that's what you like doing, that's great.

But I like the services of the Community clinic, they are just as equatible as private doctors. The doctor who sees me is a doctor off all medicine. He enjoys helping people out, and he still gets paid.

  • @sunnyvegas702

Community clinics work very similar to community colleges. They base their bill on your ability to pay and family size.

Now I have health insurance, but even though I will have to pay my community doctor more, I don't mind it, because I trust Him more than I trusted any other doctor.

  • @sunnyvegas702

All Americans have to pay Federal Income Tax. Ever wonder where those taxes go? They go to upkeep of roads, Federal Prisons, the Government themselves, the US military, and Federally funded US Healthcare clinics which have been in existence since the 70's, but people have not known of them.

If I had a choice, I would rather our federal taxes go toward healthcare than fighting a useless war in Iraq..

  • @pluto4847 You didnt think about that one. All those things you mentioned are mostly products industries, medicine is a service industry. Its not like roads where you can pay 20 people to build it, then leave it alone and barely have to maintain it.Healthcare services EVERYONE, the closest example you could use is school, and they suck. MONEY won't help you, cuz theres a finite number in the industry, you have to have more ppl in medicine.Cut down how long it takes to graduate and that will help

  • Comment removed

  • @sunnyvegas702

You want me to feel that my community doctor did nothing for me, but the community clinic saved me.

It what works for me regardless of this political fight.

I still get the same services under a community clinic than that expensive doctor of yours.

If paying out extortionate money to the corporations is your goal in life, than great on you.

But I have gone a different path,. and I'm happy.

No political argument can deny that feeling of mine.

  • @pluto4847 I am not saying they did but they did use methods and medicine that were invented by the market. But dont think that if you just had more cash everything would be better.cash is made to trade back and forth, so if you have nothing to trade no one can help you. You want to discriminate on a person who actually has a skill but you don't want to discriminate on a person's ability to produce, so a nurse should be treated after a person with no skills to trade?

  • @Berryjiveuptown5 yah thats why other countries use technology our market produces. Its funny that you dont want to discriminate on ability to produce but you will discriminate on ppl to only ppl that have skills. This is like when fat women say men shouldn't judge on size but they only say it to skinny guys cuz they judge on size themselves. An economy relies on trade, realize that and you'll figure everything out.

  • @sunnyvegas702 Haha technology??? Which companies could you possibly be talking about that aren't already overshadowed by Sony, Phillips, Siemens, Samsung, LG, Toyota, and a million others?

  • @TheArabguy45 yah are those medical companies? NO. are those markets where its free and not socialized? YES. You have to be able to allow other people to compete, it would work if the system was static with no innovation like the post office, but you need innovation in medicine it saves lives, how is a government a place of innovation?

  • @sunnyvegas702 please don't call the japanese and south korean economy "free from socialization". They are more socialized than we are and have more regulations to protect the consumer than the US does. Next, you say that healthcare companies promote innovation, but that simply cannot be true seeing that most new medical research comes from universities and centers of education rather than the corporate offices of New York. Government doesn't create innovation, but it creates the environment

  • @TheArabguy45 No I am calling those markets aren't socialized. They can have socialized medicine but they have free markets in the parts where they excel. And yes corps provide the environment, when you ask where are the best developers they arent at harvard they are at google apple and facebook. Same with anything, what do you think ppl do after college, form corporations.

  • @Hortzy1 it works pretty well in 23 countries and has for more than 30 years! i agree that Reich is missing the point here, but you don't need to lie to discredit him.

  • hammered you must be! Riech talking about health care is like Palin talking about foreign policy. The fact is Public Insurance gets everyone covered but increases costs and rations care. This is why individuals from the 23 countries seek treatment in the US. It also with result in increased taxes and legislating behavior. (sin taxes) and a doctor shortage. The left often makes a moral argument for the uninsured. But will you accept a inferior system to insure the uninsured?

  • @Hortzy1

You wanna talk about rationing? Talk to the 50 million of us now with no health insurance. THAT's rationing. So are the 40 thousand odd people who die each year without health care.

  • If those same people would have done more with there lives other then fucking up there high school education and dropping out and joining the welfare class, maybe they could have good insurance like the rest of us, yes? It is not my responsibility through taxes to pay for your shit, get over it and get a damn job that pays. I joined the army, I got out and now work for the feds and have insurance, just cause you decided to be lazy doesn't mean I should pay for it.

  • @grunt11b Yeah, you do realize that their are some or at least many men and women coming back from parts of the world like Iraq and Afghanistan that have debilitating injuries and substance abuse problems? So according to you, whether it was their fault before or after they joined the army, you won't let anybody take any money from you to help your own country. You must be "proud" to be an "actual" American.

  • Great video.

  • If you're a socialist, I guess it would be, but the man is lying, and you enjoy the koolaid. Are you Canadian by chance?

  • quit it asshole, without America the world economy would fall but without China or Europe America would fall too. Don't be a stupid republican close minded idiot. Think of people who are in debt to repay the insurance company because they found out they were not covered, think of how health care must be constitutional. hell, it's not about taxpayers here, it's about common sense. i'm a right winged european but hell this is not socialism

  • @grunt11b LOL It's amazing how many people buy into Reich? Liberals are sheep.

  • It's weird to hear people defending private insurance companies against competition from a public plan. Are they in love with their insurance companies? I sure am not. Especially since my rate went up an outrageous 18% this year (on top of increases in previous years of up to 30%). The system we have now is clearly broken. Versions of the public option work in every other Western democracy. I'm all for it.

  • No matter what happens we will pay more for heath care anything the government touches works out that way. IF the government really wanted to fix health care they would be fixing each of the problems with our system. There not and not going to. WE will pay more and more and more.

  • agreed unemployment is the major concern right now. not health care. if we had employment we wouldn't be worried about health care as most companies offer health insurance. of course one wonders if this isn't on purpose at this point.

  • They call it a Public Option

    Arent they all Public?

To me, a Public Option should be something that we as Americans are guaranteed...not have to Pay For! It makes me want to go out and marry a Canadian! Who is the Government to tell us what is Affordable? It should be every citizens right to a Guarenteed Public Heath Plan- just like Obama originally wanted! But just like everything else - he gave up on his promises..

  • @drunkymarine The government wouldn't set the prices at all, it would only serve to keep the health insurance oligopoly from continually raising it's rates every year, which it has, and will continue to do. It's not price fixing or government intervention, it's a tool for healthy competition in the interests of the poor and working class, i.e. 95% of America.

  • @TyroneTasty Under Obama's health care bill, by 2014 most Americans would be REQUIRED to have health insurance or pay a fine, with the exception of low-income Americans. Employers would also be required to provide coverage to their workers, or pay a fine of $2,000 per worker. Companies with fewer than 50 employees, however, are exempt from this rule.. What I am worried about is my friends/family that make 25,000 who dont qualify for the Public Option and have to pay for it. GOV Control=Communism

  • @drunkymarine

Well that's the reality friend. It really annoys me when people think the uninsured are lazy bums. No we are not. We work really hard, sometimes 2-3 jobs.

Its quite simple math, help economic growth and open more work options. Some employers do not pay benefits.

I'm stuck in a situation that if I want insurance at less than $99 a month, my deductible is like $10,000.

That's still a lot of money. Costs need to be lowered, and we need more competition.

  • Comment removed

  • Those us who are intelligent are in a state of shock at how stupid most of you are. I guess my time getting an engineering degree and a law degree made me lose sight of how stupid you hillbillies are.

  • robert REICH... get it

  • Yep, call the Jewish guy with dwarfism a Nazi. Stellar grasp of history there, moron.

  • So the idea is to cut reimbursement rates for healthcare providers? I see. And do you think they will continue to compensate doctors and nurses at the high rates that they do presently if they are making 50% less money? No.

So what will happen when you cut the pay of nurses, and, more importantly, doctors? They will leave the field. Also people who want to become doctors/nurses will think twice because their compensation will be much less thus creating a shortage.

    Thanks public option.

  • He talks about cheaper insurance with the public option and the over cost of private insurance, but what he completely fails to mention is that if I keep my private insurance, I will STILL have to pay into the public option! How does that make any sense?! Stop socialism now!

  • -_-

The Public Option wouldn't cost anything. Like an insurance company it would bring in revenue from the people who subscribe to it. However unlike a private insurance company it won't aim to make a profit, so it will just make enough money to break even..

I don't see where you came up with the idea that you would be paying for it... you will be paying for it in the long run if the system isn't changed.

  • The Exchange, or the Public Option "won't cost anything"? Are you serious? Where do you think the money comes from to pay for it? HIGHER TAXES. And seeing as it will provide coverage for all comers with no denials whatsoever, how many people do you think will actually continue to also pay for their private insurance? Not many, and I think that's exactly what they're planning on. This will be just another massively over budget gov't project, just like Medicare, Medicaid, USPS, Amtrak, and SS.

  • I am so glad you are smarter than Robert Riech, LOL. You stupid fuck, think for yourself. You retards just repeat the GOP and Lobbyist advertisements.

  • I may or may not be. Who cares? On the other hand, since you appear to accept his ramblings here as gospel, I challenge you to refute (from any reliable source) anything at all from my post.

  • Where did you hear medicare doesnt work? because that ideoligy is flawed at best.....

  • You're putting words in my mouth. I never it doesn't work. I didn't even say anything close. I said it is another a massively over budget gov't project. It currently still issues benefits but, it is on pace to be bankrupt in 2010. If you were spending more money that you were taking in, would you consider yourself to have a reasonable budget?

  • Complete bull. If the goal is to create an option that will benefit the public and in long term, self sustaining, what is the added incentive to have the government create it in the first place? If you want to make a point of removing the profit incentive, there are at least two major private insurance companies right now that operate like a charity.

  • Complete bull, non-profit insurance companies aren't that big, and private for-profit companies have monopolies over large regions of the united states, places where people don't have an alternative to the over-priced, care that can be dropped for the littlest thing.

  • Then why would government limit competition by granting monopoly to large insurance companies within their own state by erecting state health code. The answer is not more government control. I agree that the current system needs reform. But no one has talked about a free market solution.

  • Complete bull. Who are those companies? Are you trying to say that private insurance companies' objective is to serve the good of man and not allocate profit? Really? Can you say that to the 45.8 million uninsured Americans?

  • Are you telling me the the other 254.2 Million Americans aren't better off because they have insurance?

  • This is NOT HEALTH CARE it is MARXIST REDISTRIBUTION OF WEALTH. It will be paid for by $500 MILLION CUTS IN MEDICARE, TAXES ON THE INSURANCE COMPANIES AND DRUG COMPANIES and these taxes will be passed on to those that have private care in the form of higher premiums and any FEE FOR PUBLIC OPTION is therefor subsidized by the 86% that currently have HEALTH INSURANCE. More than 55% of the public doesn't want it .... Obama / Pelosi / Reid are LIARS...

  • Um what the hell? I fail to find one fact in that post.

  • I like how he completely ignores the fact that the people will be paying for this whether or not they've opted in. Unbiased Robert, great job.

  • STUPID DWARFS for Public Option..... Hey who is paying for the public option..... not the people getting it.... WE WANT CHANGE ALRIGHT ..... ALL THE MARXISTS OUT OF GOVERNMENT... III

  • Actually for your information... YES the public option is paid for by the PERSON... Stop supporting the illegal entity called the private health care system ... WHO HAS IN FACT been practicing and illegal business since the 1940's ABOVE the anti trust laws....

  • Repeal the ANTI-TRUST legislation -- bought from corrupt politicians -- ALLOW CROSS STATE PURCHASE -- oh yeah and by the way it wont be apid for by the person getting it and illegals will get it too -- for free.. IT WILL BE PAID FOR BY THE DRUG COMPANIES / THE INSURANCE COMPANIES / AND ANYONE WHO HAS HEALTHCARE NOW - WITH TAXES.... and the government will force private insurance OUT of business and RATION HEALTH CARE --- Reich said IT .... LISTEN UP iii

  • I agree with across state purchasing... and I agree with NO discrimination from pre existing conditions....and yes there will be more taxes but that's still cheaper for families compared to the OUTLANDISH premiums there paying now for there health care....Example .. My Uncle who owns a business was paying 1,400 a month for his private health care! NOW he pays 100 a month on medicare... ASK HIM ABOUT the current system...EVERY YEAR they raised him premium for 10 years.. the increase will continue

  • Dude.... it really bothers me when people use immigrants as and excuse to not fix this failed health care system.... were talking about OUR people!!!! The American people are getting raped by this current system... the immigrant problem has solutions but that's another topic entirely ... WE the American people need this system fixed... desperately ...

  • UM..Duuude! Illegals are not immigrants -- they are criminals ... hence the word ILLEGAL and yes you will be paying for 12 million of them .. THE PROPOSED LEGISLATION DOES NOT FIX HEALTHCARE it redistibutes it from the old to the illegals and by the way it will only really cover age group 20-50 and by the wayt THERE WILL BE SEVERE RATIONING so say goodbye to your uncle... Duuude!

  • Again the illegal immigrant situation is entirely a different subject .... YES we need good solutions for that problem but it's entirely a different subject from our failed health care system ... and PLEASE stop believing the rationing in health care because that's happening now on a MASSIVE scale under the private system .. private insurance companies have been dumping people when they need it the most.... Medicare WILL NEVER DENY CARE ... I have 3 family members on it that LOVE IT!!!

  • My Uncle still has a very good business with over 40 employees... he's in his early 60's now and has made it very clear he would LOVE to cover all his employees on a health plan but couldn't stay in business if he did it... He has a deep hatred for what the private insurance companies have been doing to this country over the years and is a HUGE supporter of a single payer for all Americans... I feel the same way .... non for profit single payer for all Americans.. NO ONE left behind

  • You can not add 50 million people without causing a shortage AND PRICE INCREASES and by the way your 60+ year old uncle will not get the care he gets now.... WATCH THE VIDEO AGAIN...

  • Your acting like it's free.... PUBLIC option is NOT free.... you have to pay... so the money will be there....

  • Exactly if any of these politicians had BALLS they would break up the monopoly THEY CREATED!

    GOVENMENT HAS SANCTIONED THIS ...

    Yet thesee morons demonize business!

  • hey reich... go fuck yourself

nobody gives a shit what the hell you say..

you are a fraud and a liar

    so fuck off asshole

  • Wow, I'm so impressed with your knowledge. Thank you for your amazing insight - great use of the English language as well, you did yourself proud.

  • yeah... im like one of those Harvard liberal graduates who cannot even balance their own checkbook and seem to keep running all the taxpayers into enornous debt...

    yeah.. i am proud

  • It's not about health care. It's about control. There have been many good ideas proposed to fix our current health care system, like tort reform and allowing people to purchase health insurance out of state, but they are not even seriously considered. The public option is part of the agenda. We cannot afford this agenda. It's all about control.

  • NOT SURE why you think it's about control when the public option is a CHOICE for consumers.... Right now the only control I see is from the MONOPOLY the private health care system has been running for years.... PUBLIC OPTION IS A CHOICE FOR CONSUMERS!!! and it will lower costs in the private sector as well.... BIG TIME..... because now private insurance will finally have some competition and incentive to KEEP YOU...

  • Believe what you will. Real competition would be allowing consumers to shop for health insurance across state lines. The public option may start out with private insurers, but through government mandates (control) the private companies will eventually be forced out of business leaving us with the Public Optiononly (the agenda). How can private insurers compete with the Federal Government who can get funding directly from the Treasury? I wish you well, but will not change my opinion.

  • you speak as if the private insurance companies are providing primo services to all of their customers--how will shopping across statelines help are person who has had cancer and can't get insurance??--their motto is"insure the healthy and drop the sick" thats how they make SO much money--

  • Yeah but if the public option ends up taking private insurance out of business then Consumers MADE that choice... If the private insurance companies want business then they should compete for that business... for years they have done nothing but cut corners and increased costs for massive profits on the backs of all Americans and there families.... not to mention the denial of care for people with pre existing conditions....

  • i wish i were this balla. i can't wait to take his class next semester

  • ahhh robert reich did a guest lecture in one of my classes today and he is THE BOSS!! everything is so lucid in his brain and he clearly knows what is good for america.

  • Watching/hearing Robert Reich speak for nearly two decades, one can only come to the conclusion that he is educated far beyond his intelligence.

  • If you think healthcare is expensive now just wait til the government takes over and it's "free."

  • Comment removed

  • Yes, I believe the CDC is on the verge of listing "Lack of health insurance" right up there with H1N1.

Your "facts" are deliberate distortions of the actual truth. Who the hell cares whether we are the only ones without a nationalized universal health care system? Remember when the US was a leader not a follower?

We also are responsible for approximately 50% of medical research spending, which is a subsidy to the rest of the world. Tell me how the government will make that better too.

  • What the hell does medical research have to do with the proposed health care reform and the public option? The public option is not government health care and not socialized medicine. It's just an optional insurance plan,

It would provide competition to private insurance companies. Private insurance companies are not the ones funding medical research. Why would they? If costs increase they just raise premiums. Kinda like a Realtor whose profits don't suffer when house prices rise.

  • If the silver bullet is to "increase competition" then why not just revoke the limited anti-trust exemptions of insurance companies? The very argument you use belies your contempt of capitalism.

There is no way the public option will not be subsidized, and ALL medical spending funds medical research. Are you forgetting that the evil drug companies spend billions on R&D?

And let's say this for good measure: it's UNCONSTITUTIONAL.

  • a) I don't think increasing competition is the "silver bullet". b) I don't have any contempt for capitalism. I do have contempt for anyone (not saying you) being so indoctrinated with it that that they see every problem in simplistic "private=good, gov't =bad" terms. c) Of course repeal the anti-trust exemptions. But don't put all your faith in that alone. c) Insurance co's don't fund drug R&D. Patent laws are the main determinant of R&D returns.

  • Why the fuck would anyone want to imagine themselves living in Cleveland?

  • Leftist Strategy - Create laws that screw everything up so that we can create more laws to fix them and screw something else up. Just remember, every new law takes a bite out of freedom.

  • Are you saying that the public option in healthcare takes a bite out of your freedom? Has Medicare and VA benefits taken a bite out of your freedom. The public option is not subsidized by the Federal Government like private insurance companies are. Read up!

  • rheikaus, Kind of like that saying:

The bureaucracy is expanding to meet the needs of the expanding bureaucracy.

    ?

  • Wow. If this is not agit-prop directed at 3rd graders, I don't know what is.

Glaring holes in this entire theory are simply glossed over. Better to spend time castigating drug companies, insurance companies, and nebulous "polical operatives and lawyers."

The basic premise of his argument is that constituents only have limited choices of insurers. Anybody care to ask why health insurance is the only industry in America like this?

  • Not only do I hope the public option castrates the private insurance companies, I hope it puts every one of those greedy, murdering companies out of business. God Speed!

  • Well you are obviously one of the 3rd graders Mr. Reich was trying to agitate! I said CASTIGATE, genius.

Rising above your blind vitriol, I will again pose the question: If competition will bring down prices and increase quality (the public option), why don't we look to increase competition in a way that costs NOTHING?

  • Rising above your blind vitriol, why hasn't the private health insurance INCREASED competition in a way that costs NOTHING? They are the largest lobbyists in Washington and ALL they do is protect their greed and high profits on the backs of the dying! Fuck'um! I hope I live to see the day when there is no such thing as private health insurance companies. They have been killing people long enough!

  • First, look vitriol up in the dictionary. I used sarcasm. And ummm... what the hell are you talking about? Increased competition compared to what? There are over 1000 insurance companies in the country. The only reason states have limited insurance markets is because they have anti-trust exemptions.

I don't know if they are the largest lobbyists in washington, but do you honestly think they lose big on this deal? The law says that you have to buy their product! THINK!

  • I have no problem having to buy health insurance, already have to with my car. I WILL NOT buy health insurance if there is no public option. The private health insurance companies are death panels, end of story!

  • And just think about how well car insurance works! States require a minimum level of insurance for registration. This is constitutional because you don't have to drive.

You can pervert the incentives no more than to displace fixed cost to a third party and offer a tax credit, as the government has done with health insurance. We should be enabling the health insurance industry to be more like the auto insurance companies.

Finally, your note again does not make much sense.
