planes are gliders with engines, they should glide if no engine present, the important here is if there is a runway or paved or somewhat paved location for the plane to land safely, if there is quick comunication between the crew and the ground they could easy find a location where is the pilot could direct the plane to.

Flying and landing with dead engines ins't a problem for a good pilot if ennought air under the wings:in 1982, a 747 fly 120km with dead engines (stopped from volcano dust over indonesia) before he can restart it...

(a passenger jet can glide ~16 to 20 km for 1 km eight loss=glide rate)

for ex. on ultralights aircrafts, the normal landing is ever with engine at iddle: a good training in case of a engine fail...

So you lined up the plane with the runway, already had your landing gear down. 99% of the work was done before you shut off the engines, then gravity did the rest. No storms, no fires, no missing a big section of plane. So the challange was what?

@vaseline02 You throttle back, but you don't turn off the engine, in case you have to abort your landing (overshoot). Plus, with no engine, some systems don't work.

It's like turning your car's ignition off when you take the highway's off-ramp.

Look up Gimli Glider - the ground crew didn't convert lbs to kgs of fuel correctly and only put in half the required fuel.

i was worked with aircraft maintenance.this only can be done by fsx but not in reality.

aircraft needs minimum one engine on for landing.this is mandatory from caa.Yes! u can still landing with both engine off but not as leisure landed as what we saw rite now. :)
